Re: Leica enters Lomo territory!
Bad move. It's been a terrible year for growing film, with early frosts and a cold, wet spring causing very poor development and no fix available. I would have pulled the press. > On 17 September 2016 at 20:54 Bob W-PDML wrote: > > > They've taken an option on pixels from the first cold pressing and will be > pricing them according to terroir. > > B > > > On 17 Sep 2016, at 20:41, Marco Alpert wrote: > > > > My understanding is that the Leica Sofort is a rebranded variant of a Fuji > > instax camera. It's a restyled variant on the Fuji Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic. The film is repackaged Instax with the Leica brand name. Fuji Instax has proven extremely popular for fun snapshots, just like what sold Polaroid cameras for decades and produces a viable market for Impossible instant film today. A Leica Instax camera is a product to increase brand awareness amongst a new generation of users. (Rumor has it that Instax film sales are what generate the profit revenue that Fujifilm needs for their digital camera development because the digital camera profits are so flat these past couple of years.) They've taken an option on pixels from the first cold pressing and will be pricing them according to terroir. Re: Leica enters Lomo territory!
My understanding is that the Leica Sofort is a rebranded variant of a Fuji instax camera. And uses the Fuji instax film. I don't think Impossible offers an option for that. Leica does say they'll have their own film, but I imagine it will also be an instax variant. Re: Leica enters Lomo territory!
Instant film is a cult thing. Leica going up against the Impossible Film Project in a way that's more like Kodak's doomed effort to displace Polaroid. The success of Leica's effort will depend on whether Impossible Film can keep up with demand. If they can, there won't be any excess market for Fuji/Leica to exploit. On 9/16/2016 2:19 PM, P.J. There are some who will buy anything with the Leica brand and gladly pay whatever is asked. Dan Matyola http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/danieljmatyola On Fri, Sep 16, 2016 at 2:19 PM, P.J.
