Yes, but some of the press release material has specifically mentioned
the green button. In general, the layout of this camera is closer to
that of the D than to the DL or DS.

Sample to sample variation occurs. But the Pentax 50mm 1.7 1.8's have
always been up there with the best.

Well done
It is.
A Pentax-F 50mm 1.4 will probably sell above 200 USD (It's supposed to be
among the very best 50mm ever made on this planet).
The 50mm F.1:1.2 lens is quite rare and very vaulable. Optically it's said
to be quite soft wide open. Perhaps more valuable for collectors than for
photographers.
That is indeed a a K 50/1.2, and it is an excellent price. However, be adviced
that it will only work with manual stop-down metering on the K100D. That
doesn't bother many of us, but some get the shorts in a bind over having to
meter that way.

hi paul,
yes, i have read up enough to know that with the M and the K lenses
one has to set the aperture manually and that doesn't bother me too
much. i was hesitating a little because i remember reading somewhere
that the f/1.2 series, though more expensive are not as good optically
as the f/1.4

From what I've seen, I'd say that the 50mm f/1.4 lenses (A, F and
FA) outperform the K50/1.2, particularly wide open, but that some
users like the K50/1.2's rendering qualities. For that price, if it's
in good condition, it's certainly worth buying and experimenting with
at least. You can

I have a K50/1.2, and while the results aren't as crisp at wider apertures
as my A50/1.4, I still like the lens quite a bit. Focussing ability in low
light is, of course, a joy.
I have numerous iterations of K-mount 50mm lenses, and they all offer some
qualities that are useful. You can't have
Yeah, but stop it down to f/1.4 and it's just as sharp as any 50/f1.4.

Maybe in India that is a fair price. Here in the US it is a steal.

No 1.4 lens out perform a 1.2 wide open. In fact they don't work at 1.2
at all. Usually however the slower lens will be sharper at mid
apertures. There are however unit to unit variations in most lenses so a
particularly good 1.2 may out preform an average slower lens.

Those lenses are quite good, and even the K version is usually goes for
$200.00+ in reasonable good condition. I'd go for it.

It's easy enough when using a true Zoom or Fixed Focal length lens,
(though stop down metering gives bogus results long before I'm
uncomfortable shooting hand held at high ISOs). It is truly a PITA when

Like all Pentax normal lenses they're a bit soft wide open, (still
sharp enough in my opinion), they get much sharper stopped down a couple
of stops. The f1.2 is much sharper than the f1.4 at f1.2 however.

Even the 1.7 is a bit soft wide open compared to some of the competition

Compared to what? Every fast 50 I've ever used is soft wide open. The
examples of the 1.7 I've seen is among the sharpest 50's, even wide
open. Maybe a Summicron is sharper wide open, but precious little else is.
