there should be 'fixed in the next bug-fix release' or 'fixed
in the next
semi-major release'.
How about
Will be fixed in version major.minor.buildrelease ?? ie tell them which
version it will be fixed in, no confusion at all then

Another option would be to get people to split into 2 teams, and have
bug fix team and new feature team, where people specifically look at
those features. Make a slightly bigger divide between the two projects.
Yes, there are others who feel this way - but basically it
boils down to
who is
Following that, why not do what a number of people do, and do
major.minor.patch
major releases say every 6 months
minor ones every 2 - unless serious patch required
patches as required
This allows people to predict the times also.

James,
Firstly I have a suggestion for you, I downloaded a copy of something
called VMWare, it allows you to install virtual machines, ie, depending
on your disk space you can run mutliple operating systems without multi
boot. It even has the ability to forget changes, so you can have a

Anyway, I'm well on with the job, but I have an issue with the instructions
on installing PHP with PWS on NT Workstation. All the instructions
everywhere talk about editing the registry, but as far as I am aware, PWS on
NTWS is not in the least bit interested in the registry - it uses the IIS
To the best of my knowledge, it used to when it was based on IIS3 (and was
essentially the same thing currently shipped as PWS for 9x/ME) but the
current PWS for NTWS is essentially IIS4.
Could only be an improvement.

In the bit where you say assign php4isapi.dll to the .php extension woudlnt it
be beneficial to say for the CGI version use php.exe etc.. and for the ISAPI
version use the DLL?
I know from my own experience that the DLL has caused me problems, but the exe
is very reliable..

Now that the pressing problems have been fixed in the CVS I'd like to
branch 4.0.6 and release an RC1.
Any objections?
Maybe call it beta 1 just to see how it fairs?

CVS or
such, but, I dont have the time or necessarily (depending on where I am) to
use CVS.
Im happy to do all the testing I can.. but it would save me a lot of time if I
wasnt guessing/searching for downloads.

Have you checked the bug database lately?
There are 43 open reports with bug type 'Reproducible crash'.
There are actually even more of them. I can easily reproduce
at least 10 bugs which cause segfaults. Those haven't been fixed yet.
Those haven't been fixed for a couple of releases now.

The question right now is how to best implement this. Do we add something

Or do we separate it out of the bug database and maintain the list

OK, my opinion would be to put a copy of the
