README.source has some details but please feel free to ask me any

Excellent idea -- since we won't be adding any more XUL packages.

I went ahead and created webext-team and added existing alioth admins as
project owners. And gave you, Michael, what is hopefully enough access
to do what you need to do.

2017-09-27 Thread Sean Whitton
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the ublock-origin package.

I do not have time/interest to deal with #877040, which is a bug of
normal severity for now, but will become RC within the next eighteen
months or so. See the bug for details.

This is a team-maintained package, so it would be best if the adoptor
replaced me in Uploaders:, but they could also take the package out of
the team's hands.

The package description is:
uBlock is a small footprint blocker for against web ads, malware, trackers,
 analytics and similar invasive items.
 .
Compared to other blockers like AdBlock and Ghostery, µBlock is focused on
having a smaller memory and CPU footprint.

[Pkg-mozext-maintainers] Bug#868351: RFA: classic-theme-restorer -- customize the new Firefox interface

2017-07-14 Thread Sean Whitton
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the classic-theme-restorer package.

Upstream has a tendency to include new image files without indicating
the source, and in the latest upstream release I believe that at least
one of the files is non-free. I no longer have time to do the work
needed to reconcile d/copyright with each new upstream release.

This is a team-maintained package, so it would be best if the adoptor
replaced me in Uploaders:, but they could also take the package out of
the team's hands.

It is also worth noting that upstream believes it will never be possible
to port this addon to the new WebExtensions API. If Mozilla goes ahead
with its plans, this addon will not be usable with any version of
Firefox in Debian before the end of stretch's non-LTS support cycle.

The package description is:
Classic Theme Restorer allows restoration of squared tabs,
tabs-not-on-top, the app menu, the add-on bar, small button view and
 more.
 .
Such elements were removed in Mozilla's Australis redesign of Firefox.

Hello,

I'm filing this bug to track discussion of support for packaging
WebExtensions. It's not yet clear that we will need a packaging helper
at all, but if we do, it makes sense to fold support into
mozilla-devscripts, so I'm filing the bug against that package.

This bug will become release-critical when every version of Firefox in
unstable is greater than or equal to 57, assuming Mozilla's plans do not
change. For now, it's a feature request.

[Pkg-mozext-maintainers] Firefox 57: WebExtensions only

2016-11-24 Thread Sean Whitton
Hello team,

Paul Wise posted this link in #debian-mozext: [1].

The most significant thing for us is that from Firefox 57, expected late
2017, non-WebExtension addons will not be loaded.

There are a couple of things we have to determine:

1. Will firefox-esr be updated to version 57 or later during stretch's
lifetime? Looking at the timeline,[2] we can expect an ESR release with
version number at least 57 in March 2018. So I think the answer is yes.

We should probably come up with a strategy for xul-ext-* packages in
stretch before that date. Is it likely the stable release team will
accept new versions of addons that convert them to webextensions? Or
will we just have to ask them to remove all xul-ext-* packages from
stretch as soon as firefox-esr >=57 is uploaded to stable?

2. Is the structure of webextensions addons the same as the structure of
the old addons? I.e. do we have to update mozilla-devscripts in order
to package them? Maybe someone on this list already knows the answer to
this question.

Here is what I have:

% git clone -b jessie-bpo
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/pkg-mozext/ublock-origin.git

As you say, it's trivial to make it build and install on jessie.
However, after installation, no ads are blocked until you open the
ublock-origin settings screen and tell it to update all its lists
(EasyList etc.).

On stretch/sid, you don't have to do this, and it blocks ads
out-of-the-box.

We could upload the backport without fixing this, since the addon is
still useful once you've hit the update button, but it would be good to
have a go at debugging it. I won't have time for this for a little
while, so tagging 'help'.

Thanks for this feedback. Unfortunately, installing an absolute symlink
does not make the problem disappear for firefox-esr, contrary to various
reports in this thread.

If you'd like to try it yourself:

uBlock Origin 1.8.5rc1 - August 22, 2016

| Release notes:

In these cases the actual URI is provided so there is no need for the
mozaws.net redirector, which could infringe user privacy. So
amo-changelog should filter it out.

I've also seen cases where there's a mozaws.net URI but no real URI
present. In those cases, perhaps amo-changelog could resolve the
redirect.

Thanks.

Thank you for pointing this out.

It looks like we won't get another ESR release before stretch, so far as
I can tell. So it might be best to backport the fix. Possibly I just
need to ask Mozilla to do that for the next ESR point release, but
perhaps the Debian package will have to carry the patch. Will
investigate.

Dear Guido,

Thank you for the updated patch. I've applied it.

It seems that Ubuntu are also using an epoch, since version 24. I've
extended your get_epoch function to deal with that, too.

Indeed, I do not claim to understand exactly how that bug is connected
to the problem with uBlock origin. The important thing is that Firefox
48 fixes the problem, and since that will soon reach Debian unstable,
there is no need to make any changes to this package.

I don't believe that the extension is responsible for actually loading
any fonts; that's Firefox's job.

We can't do that. Debian packages cannot include copies of files that
are installed by other Debian packages; in this case, by the
fonts-font-awesome package. There are several reasons for this. An
important one is that it is harder to keep the font up-to-date. We
don't want more than one version of the font to be installed on any
Debian system. See Debian Policy section 4.13 (that discusses "code",
but the policy extends to fonts).

Thanks for performing that investigation. I don't find any mention of
symlinks in the upstream bug report,[1] but I guess it's a side-effect
of the fix.

At present mozilla-devscripts migrates unchanged to Ubuntu, so yes, it

Dear stable release team,

The dh_xul-ext debhelper script from the mozilla-devscripts package
generates Depends:, Recommends:, Provides:, Enhances: and Breaks:
entries for addons and extensions to Mozilla software such as Firefox
and Thunderbird. An example of such a package using dh_xul-ext is
xul-ext-y-u-no-validate.

The version of mozilla-devscripts currently in Jessie generates
references to the iceweasel and icedove packages. But iceweasel is to
be replaced with firefox-esr, and icedove is probably going to be
replaced with thunderbird.

The attached patch updates dh_xul-ext such that when xul-ext-* packages
in stable are rebuilt, they will have dependencies/recommends/etc. on
`firefox-esr | iceweasel` and `thunderbird | icedove` rather than on
iceweasel and icedove alone.

[Pkg-mozext-maintainers] Bug#818756: Bug#818756: dh_xul-ext: please add alternative dependency on iceweasel

I'm not familiar with this use case: could you explain why someone might
want to do that, please? Does Debian usually try to support partial
upgrades between stable versions? My understanding was that we expected
users to upgrade all-at-once from one stable version to the next.

Further, firefox-esr will replace iceweasel in Jessie when the next ESR
release is made by Mozilla. So I'm not sure we want to make a change in
dh_xul-ext for such a short period of time.

I filed #818104 but it turns out the archive rejects binNMUs for
arch:all packages. Niels Thykier is looking into getting that
restriction lifted.

As with #680709, I believe that this is a bug in conkeror rather than
xul-ext-ublock-origin. There is an entry for Conkeror in install.rdf
and xul-ext-ublock-origin provides
/usr/share/mozilla/extensions/{a79fe89b-6662-4ff4-8e88-09950ad4dfde}/ublo...@raymondhill.net
so Conkeror should find the extension.

It turns out, btw, that Conkeror doesn't work with uBlock Origin at all
atm: see <https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/issues/1356>. If this
upstream bug is not fixed, I will remove the package info implying that
uBlock origin works with Conkeror.

The full text is now included. I've retagged in my git repo and
reuploaded to mentors.debian.net.

Indeed. For me, the most important feature is the restoration of
tabs-not-on-top which for some reason Mozilla totally removed.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package classic-theme-restorer.

Classic Theme Restorer allows the restoration of squared tabs,
tabs-not-on-top, the app menu, the add-on bar, small button view and
more. Such elements were removed in the Australis redesign of
Iceweasel.

This ITP fulfills an RFP (#753466).

Hello,

dh_xul-ext still adds Iceape to ${xpi:Depends}. Iceape is no longer
available in Debian, so this generates debcheck errors.

I've made an attempt to remove it in the branch drop-iceape of the
mozilla-devscripts repository on alioth [1]. Please consider merging
this.

Thanks.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my packaging of ublock-origin.

uBlock is a popular alternative to Adblock Plus that has a much lower
CPU and memory footprint, which makes Iceweasel more responsive.
