The -geometry option is part of X. (See the man page for X(7) for
an explanation of the geometry option.) Some programs accept that
option and pass it through to X. Emacs, for example, has a "-g"
or "--geometry=" option, which it passes to X.

In looking at the man page for Evince, I didn't see any mention of
a geometry option. You can open the viewer normally, or in (-f)
full-screen mode. For what it's worth, I couldn't find a geometry
option for my favorite viewer, qpdfview, either. However, that
one at least has the grace to remember its size, position, and
some other state between sessions.

Tools>Auto Correct>Auto Correct Options ...

Will take you to a tab where you can add words to the Autocorrect: it
will change words by guessing which one you meant to type. I hate that.
You may not.

To actually edit dictionaries, go to

Tools > Options > Language Settings > Writing Aids

You can now either edit the predefined "User-defined dictionaries" or
create a new one. Any misspelling with the red squiggly underline will
have correction options in the right-click menu from these dictionaries.
If a "misspelled" word is correct, the right click menu will display and
"add to" and a "Spelling and Grammar" entry to use to add of refine.

Also, I recommend upgrading to LibreOffice 5.3.4.2 as there are lots of
bug fixes, improvements and a number of Heap-buffer-overflow security fixes.

Dick,

The LibreOffice window (start screen) that shows recent files, and
templates, and has a list if "Create" options, will open a document in
what ever size THAT windows is in currently. If you resize that window,
exit and re-open, it will open in the new size. Then any document you
open will be in that size. Each module works the same way.

As of my LibreOffice 5.3.4.2, anyway.

As far as I know, libreoffice does not have a command line option to set
window size/geoemtry. In a terminal, type 'soffice -h' to see a list of
command line options.

Now, once you set the size for each module (calc, writer etc), each will
have its own default size - as long as you NEVER open the start screen.
Once you open a module via the start screen that module will reset to
the start screen size.

The interwebs are full of people complaining about this in both LO and
OpenOffice for years.

Some WM/DE allow you to set application geometry (KDE?) but since I use
Xfce I wouldn't know.

OK, the pointer trick didn't work, but I fudged it by taking a
screenshot to the clipboard, opening it in the GIMP, and taking note of
the size of the resulting graphic, which was 1120 x 1060. I added this
to the launcher for Evince, but afterward it wouldn't launch. From the
command line I got:

evince -geometry 1120x1060+150+10
Cannot parse arguments: Unknown option -geometry

So that leaves me wondering what the -geometry option belongs to.

Rich,

Do you have an smtp-server setting in your .pinerc (or in a role)? Or
is it blank?

If blank, then the message is submitted to your local MTA (Postfix, in
your case) and subject to its rules.

BTW: I can't see that 'on behalf of' header in any messages I've
received from you.

My outbound mail is relayed through SpiritOne (nee Aracnet).

I would like to understand why the domain is 'localhost' rather than the

That part doesn't work for me. I assume you meant the window of the
app that I want to specify the geometry for. In my case all the apps
that I use all the time remember their size and location when they were
last used, except Evince. And Evince is my default PDF viewer, so just
about every time I open a PDF I have to drag the corners of its window.
I don't know where Evince gets its notion about what size to open to,
but it's just about always something bizarre.

With Evince open and properly sized the way I normally want it I placed
the mouse pointer at the bottom right corner, but all I could ever get
was the resize window icon for the pointer.

John,

I work with the panel so I don't know about icons or using the Xfce menu.

The panel has a series of 'launchers,' the one displayed and others from
the same spot added to that list. In the properties widget for each
application are 4 text entry widgets: name, comment, command, and working
directory. The command line can be edited.

For example, emacs which opens in an urxvt terminal has this command line:
/usr/bin/emacs -fg wheat -bg black -geometry 115x45+150+10

The geometry specifies a width of 115 pixels and a height of 45 pixels
and places the upper left corner of the window at 150, 10 pixels (x, y).

Another example: LyX which opens in its own window has this command line:
/usr/bin/lyx -geometry 1300x800+40+20

You can identify the geometry by moving the pointer to the bottom right
corner and moving it slightly. A small window with the x and y sizes opens
in the center.

My problem is that I want a smaller window for my spreadsheet, which I
can easily get by resizing, but it's annoying to have to do something
that used to automatically work. It still works if I have some other LO
window open, like a LO writer document, or if there's no other LO window
open.

That would be good if I wanted all invocations to open in one set size.
I have different spreadsheets and writer documents that want to be
different sizes. LO knows about them, and usually does the right thing.

So, what I'll look for is if there's a way to change the default window
with no document specified. I have no use for the collection of
previously worked on documents, so I'll see if there's some way to turn
that feature off.

Thanks for the thoughts.

That's the default window if you do not specify a document type. I suspect
that it has the standard LO default size. Perhaps expanding it to your
desired size will allow the spreadsheet to fill the same space when
re-opened.

Alternatively, if your desktop environment allows you to define the
