I’m happy with our old HP OfficeJet 550. Its paper tray is big enough for a lot of copies, its four ink tanks have a long lifetime, and it prints pretty fast. It was sold to me as an alternative to a laser printer, and I think we’ve done well with it. We’ll see how it does with the cheaper ink

$300 is the used price. That's a $1000+ printer new. I would be scared of a used printer. The one you get might have a couple million prints on it. I wouldn't recommend to most people to get the same printer I have unless they have a heavy print load. I just used it as a good example of

13,000ish for each color. It sounds like you are looking to do photo work with your printer. If you want something that looks like a photo then you don't want any laser printer. Laser printers print too crisp. You need something that will allow inks or dyes to run together a little bit.

Make sure to compare the cost per page. Most low and mid range laser printers have relatively high costs per page when compared to other printers. For instance, when I was last in the market for a printer, Most of the printers I was pricing had toner cartridges that cost about $50-$70 each.

Well for wide format/photos I would have to say the Epson Artisan 1430 is about the best you will get. However, it will kill with ink you if you use it up doing text docs. For black and white, most any of the current 100$ range or fewer printers is perfect. Doc printing is really simple and easy

(I) have switched to "Brother" exclusively (3 lasers, 1 inkjet and a ADS-2000 scanner. They all have performed flawlessly with no jams. Inkjets SUCK if you don't use them consistently. The latent ink in the heads and tubes dry out and trash the printer. If ever I decide (I) need color again,
