Many people seem to have difficulty installing AlienBBC on a Mac. I'm
advising someone at present, have had to do so in the past, and over in
the General forum, someone is ranting rather than asking for help.
Many issues the AlienBBC people can't deal with.
The instructions do need tidying up -

and you got the exact same error from both?
Is there more to the error message?

No worries, this is on our todo list - the next release for Mac is
scheduled to be 1.6 beta 1. If you aren't already signed up as beta
testers, now would be a good time.

I actually tried two versions. The first, dated 14th March, was the one
accessed from the AlienBBC page. The second, dated 15th March, came
from www.dmason.net/mplayer.

It's all working now. R3 quality is a little disappointing compared with
the FM signal (faint warbling) - sounds on a par with DAB, but quite
listenable. What a cool plugin!

Argh! OK, I'm an idiot... I was looking for the Alien plugin in the list
of plugins in the section headed 'Plugins', not on the menu! It was
sitting there laughing at me the whole time...
Sorry to waste your time.

As per the instructions - try the following from a command prompt.

OK, I just rebooted (well, you never know ;-) and Test mplayer.bat now
connects OK. I still don't see the Alien plugin though...

To load the AlienBBC plugin, slimserver needs to be restarted.
Can you post the output from running the test bat log.

This looks like the install failed. Can you delete the Plugin/Alien
Folder and re-install.
Other things to consider regarding mplayer - do you have a firewall
installed ? If so is mplayer enabled to access network ?

I've just installed the Windows AlienBBC Experimental install pack for
SlimServer 6.2, but I don't see the plugin in SlimServer and 'Test
mplayer.bat' gives a bunch of 'Failed to connect to server with
AF_INET' messages for the URLs followed by a 'File not found' error for
the playlist file - alth

Works perfectly with 6.2.2 :)
Great plugin!
Is it linked from the Slimdevices Plugin pages?

Actually the build I made removes most of the video goodness of mplayer.
There are some newer mplayer builds out there that are also hooked up to
the aqua interface that are great for video but useless for alienbbc.
Those builds are here: http://www.haque.net/software/mplayerosx/cvs/

Thanks guys,
I added the W32codecs and bingo, AlienBBC works a treat.
I have just switched from Fedora Core 4 to Ubuntu so am getting a
little lost at times when I cannot find files where I expect them.
Slimserver and AlienBBC have been much cleaner to install on Ubuntu.

Just an update, the CPU usage seemed to to be a glitch. I stopped and
restarted the server and it settled down to a more sedate 4-5% when
streaming, so your mplayer build is more than usable for the audio
tasks.
I can report that mplayer under rosetta is useless for playing back

I tried the experimental version of mplayer. I didn't expect it to work,
as I was running it from its download position, and had not put it in
/usr/local/bin
The error message I got, though, was
