Also, when I install custom clock, save to SD card, reboot; I'd expect

When I originally tested this, I was trying to power the switch with

Turning power on during idle or playing state, and off during
unavailable and off state. Should work.

Home assistant has a squeezebox integration and already could display
the status of the various players, or serve as a basic remote for them.
It just couldn't trigger an action on state change (unless I missed how
this can be achieved)
So, node-red poll on the status as seen in home assistant
doing some debugging I realized that at boot time, there's a period
where the player isn't ON yet, but is not OFF either. it is
"unavailable"
So I'll find a way to prevent these unwanted power-on

I've been trying to configure custom clock to display a news feed.
It appears it won't work with secured (https) rss feeds.
The few feeds that actually work are all plain http.
Am I right in understanding that only non secured rss feeds work?
Where is the limitation coming from?
Is there
I was thinking of hosting a copy of an https rss file locally, possibly
copied automatically from a cron job on my lms server, but so far I've
had no luck getting the RSS service to display even a copy of a known
working feed from my NAS.
I thought for a while the issue was secured/unsecured but I found
unworking unsecured ones.
I also thought it was Atom VS RSS but I found working and unworking in
both flavour.
I don't know why most don't work...
I am having a very hard time finding rss feeds that the aggregator
accepts. About 90% of the feeds I find online displays nothing.
I'm not sure why.
In the meantime here's a jivelite800x480 version that works for stocks,
news and sports, has weather / forecast, analog and digital clock.

The RSS aggregator seems to be rather picky about the form of the feed.
Many feeds I am trying aren't working.
Having one that works as an example helps in the searches.
I should come up with something working today.
I am getting newsfeeds to display with your example.
Now to find a suitable feed and add this to my screen...
Thanks again.
Stay tuned.

Once I get the quirks out, I'll post a working jivelite and a working HD
file.
I think the issue may be with the specific rss feed, perhaps I can't
find a working one? The examples I've tried so far all had an out of
date rss url, so I tried many local news ones but no luck so far.
I'll test
I like where I am getting! Would be even better with news but it's cool.

Ok, for sports, now I feel silly.
I added teams that actually played today and suddenly I get it to
display... Thanks to the logs for stating "no games today" multiple
times...
I could make the stock ticket work, but none of the other non-date ones.
Oddly enough, on the foundation screen we use jivelite800x480, but for
HDMI out it uses remote, even if sizes don't quite match.
But it isn't a problem.
In the meantime, I do have something usable.
No news, no vu-meter or analyzer, no sports, but everything else works
