I have been playing BBC real player streams and they worked very will
through an iPhone up until now, are you suggesting there is still a way

OK thanks for letting me know, I see the more radio link and can stream
Absolute radio and the other streams through iTunes on a PC but the BBC

Please give details of SC - what OS are you using ? If it is Linux or
OSX then perhaps AlienBBC is not properly installed as it will be

If you are trying to playing a WMA stream to stream.mp3 - yopu need
something to decode WMA and lame to encode it into MP3.
On Linux and OSX - AlienBBC will decode WMA, on XP there is a SC
supplied app to do the job.
I don't know the iPhone capabilities - is it not able to play WMA

No put lame.exe into the SC Bin directory which also has apps such as
wmadec.exe, faad.exe and alac.exe.
I am not sure which version of lame.exe SC is setup to use - lame.exe
use of -x changed between versions. The wrong version will result in
static audio. Start with 3.96.1 and then try 3.98.
Changing the bitrate on my helped to make AlienBBC work on my SlimP3,
but now normal music on my system (MP3's) struggle to play properly.
They pause regularly (usually once or twice within a song) and have to
re buffer themselves to catch up.

If you only changes the line RTSP MP3 - it will only afect RTSP formats
and not any other format MP3 - so yor MP3 problem is coincidental and

Mplayer does not get installed as part of AlienBBC and it looks like you
haven't used SSODS.
It is necessary to to find out does the mplayer on your system work.
Can you run mplayer from a shell prompt and copy the banner info to a
post.

On the Synology Squeezecenter, when I open Squeezecenter / Settings /
Advanced / AlienBBC, mplayer is listed as installed. It is also shown as
an option in the dropdown menu in the filetypes tab. Apparently the
Extension downloader installed some mplayer on the Synology together
with AlienBBC.

AlienBBC will try to install mplayer on Windows as the Windows binary
works on all Windows platforms. AlienBBC does not try to install
mplayer on Linux as processor and kernel can be different on different
systems.

I think you will need to change directory to the SC server first and
then run squeezecenter.exe
Make sure you change the command window size (use menu from icon in top
left hand corner of command window) to something like 300 wide and 3000
long - that way you will save a lot of message.

If you are hearing static - then it is a lame version problem.
Go back to original conf file.
Determine what version of lame you are running and add/remove -x

It wasn't clear whether you edited the Alien custom-convert.conf file or
created your own and since you didn't say what was heard silence and
static are symptoms for two different problems. The advice below is
based on the fact you are on Windows and doing bit rate limiting.

Sorry, I'm getting pretty confused now. I was looking for the Alien
plugin but of course everything has moved now. I was making a
custom-convert.conf in SqueezeCenter\server. I from the log (attached)
that the Alien plugin is over in \Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application
A clean unmodified AlienBBC installation with no bit rate limiting
should work with SliMP3. Try that first before doing anything mods or
changes.
If it plays silence (not static) - then get a log with player.source
set to INFO of trying to play a live stream.

Since case 2 Softsqueeze works OK then mplayer, socketwrapper and flac
are working. NO need to worry about security s/w
To test 3.
* Open WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes.
* There are 3 RTSP entries with dropdown boxes. Set the Flac and WAV
entries to disabled and you should be left with just

Plays OK in Softsqueeze
Still plays sliently in Slimp3.
Attached is the log file. The first play is for the Slimp3 and the
second is for Softsqueeze.

The log shows that there is something about the settings SC has used
when streaming to SlimMP3. The SoftSuqeeze test shopws the basic
command settings are correct.
At the moment I can only suggest two things to try.
1. Edit the custom-convert.conf file in Plugins/Alien and change the
RTSP-MP3
Changing the station timeout made no difference.
Changing the bitrate to 64K however did work. The Slimp3 now shows
'buffering xx%' and when it fills plays the station.
What does this tell us? Does this point us towards a better solution?

Story of frustration so far. Have finally got M-Player working via test
page and in recommended directory. However installation of Alien BBC
via extension downloader doesnt work -says its not findng m-player and
is trying to download (and failing). Should I install a different Alien
BBC version
Deleting and re-installing the m-player files got it too work. Very
happy and relieved.

I think I have solved the problem.
I installed LAME in server-bin-MS32-x86-multi-thread instead of
directly into server-bin
Then I changed the RTSP files to MP3 disabled and enabled lame/flac.
Now the Alienbbc audio works fine, and I still have LAME at 320.

I'd never had problems until I upgraded everything: 1GB Disk + latest
version of QNAP Firmware. The SSOTS promised to make it all so much
simpler, and would have been too if I was using my proper network.
I was hoping to use the automated Extension
I just installed squeezecenter 7.33 becasue I wanted to play Ogg files.
It works fine, but now Alien BBC won't work. It acts like its
connecting but there's no audio.

Works OK for me on 24919.
Connection Timeout is usually a network or security issue especially as
the test only uses mplayer and does not involve SC.
With windows - I suggest reboot the PC just in case there is some
caching issues. Then check security which could be blocking port 554
It must have been a network issue with my ISP (ATT) as it's working
fine this morning.

updates and just a restart gets the new version running. With the
restart I find it tends to fail to start the first time, but pressing
start again and all is working like a charm.
