Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] New plugin for audio bookmarks

2016-11-10 Thread pippin

I think I have to report another bug in the plugin.
When the plugin is active the "repeat single track" mode no longer
works.
I think what happens is that the track gets queued up by the server
before it ends (to be able to continue the same track gaplessly). But
since the track hasn't ended, yet, your plugin maybe tries to restart it
at the current position creating an endless playing loop beyond the end
of the track or something like that.
Please give it a try, I'm seeing this in 7.9 and 7.8.1

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] New plugin for audio bookmarks

2016-11-10 Thread sternenjaeger

Another update:

I tried to improve the handling of bookmarks for playlists. Starting
from version 1.2.10 these should now be as reliable as bookmarks for
albums.

Previously i referenced playlists by their id, which often caused their
deletion after a rescan. The plugin now uses the name of the playlist
(aka the filename of the m3u file) to reference the bookmark. It also
notices when you change the name of a playlist and updates the bookmark
accordingly.

Please note that the version i uploaded a couple of days ago had a bug,
which caused playlist bookmarks to disappear after a server restart.
I did not notice that on my development system, because this only
occurred when the "fulltext-search" plugin is installed.

After getting help from Michael (@Michael: If you are following this
thread - thanks again for putting me on the right track!) i was able to
fix this.
Sorry for two updates in a short interval, but i wanted this bug to be
removed before it starts to confuse anyone.

Thank you for the compliments. Other than things that are not possible
in a UWP app (running in the background, notification controls, widgets,
etc..) and Google specific features; ie. Chromecast and Android Wear,
the only major feature difference between the Android and UWP versions
is the lack of tablet mode and ability to lock the controls in the UWP
app. The rest of the differences are basically cosmetic.

I think a Remote Library will work via OpenVPN client as long as you
only want one player and that is located or the same Pi as the (empty)
LMS install. Another player on the same network would see the Remote
Library via the local LMS but wouldn't be able to play. A separate

I have added under the Listen Live MP3 - the MP3 and AAC (320kbps UK
only I believe) streams for Radio 3.

By my timing outside the UK - the MP3 stream is about 45 secs behind the
Freesat Radio 3. I expect the AAC to be similar as MP3.

Change is not that frequent.
HLS hasn't changed and so users of BBCiPlayer 1.3.x should still be
working. This thread deals with DASH which is still in beta by BBC and
subject to change.

1.4.7 was release in Dec 2015. The change in Sept 2016 was due to BBC
change. At the same time (1.4.8) I included fixes fro rebuffering which
affected many Windows users. Unfortunately the changes were not good so
I rolled back about 1 week later to 1.4.9.

To fix the rebuffering I have been beta testing 1.5.x. If users are
happy with 1.4.x and don't have rebuffering which makes part of
BBciPlayer unusable - then there is no need to look at 1.5.x at this
stage.

OK seems fairly simple up to a point.

Load openvpn.tcz

ssh/scp in and create a folder openvpn in /home/tc

place config file (mine is config.conf) and certs in /home/tc/openvpn

Save config with filetool.sh -b

you can then run sudo
Code:

openvpn --config /home/tc/openvpn/config.conf &

to check the vpn comes up (I added auto auth to the config)

and make sure you put the LMS server ip address in squeezelite
settings.

All then seems to work fine for me.

Only problem is autostarting the openvpn client but maybe someone who
has more TC knowledge than I can advise !

Jeff

[SlimDevices: Plugins] What version of the BBC iPlayer plug-in should I be using?

2016-11-10 Thread FLACforever

Firstly … I totally appreciate the BBC keep moving the goal posts ...
and am very grateful to BPA et al who are always playing catch up …
hence the frequency of change.

But there are so many threads and messages on here, I can’t see the wood
for the trees. And once again, lest I be judged as being too critical, I
know this was done for good reasons and with best intentions, and is
useful to look back on.

Also, I’m not a lazy person. In November 2015 (when IIRC the BBC made a
major change) I read every relevant email on here, made lots of notes,
worked out my plan of attack, downloaded patches, refreshed the cache,
changed the plug-in and got everything working again.

I’d rather not have to do all that research again, and I’m sure there
are others who feel the same or don’t have the time.

What I am requesting is a definitive “sticky note” that gives the
current state of play and the definitive actions for “getting iPlayer
working”.

Like I said, I’m not lazy, and I don’t mind having to do 12 things in
sequence (even if 4 are unnecessary for me in person) as long as it
works for everyone when we’re done.

I’m happy to help put this together, if that would be helpful.

Many thanks,
FLACforever

P.S. The problem I’m having is BBC iPlayer v1.4.9 “listen again” doesn’t
work for any programme I try. BBC iPlayer Extras v1.9.5 does work for
the same programmes.

The metadata is a nightmare and would be simpler not to show it.
The problem with on air text is that it is synced with timecode of the
last packet sent from LMS. I can't tell which packet is actually being
played by the player and the amount of data in player can vary accoring
to BufferThreshold setting and whether there have been "slow packets".
If the player has a native feedback it could have a 2-5 min buffer
depending on the data rate of the AAC stream and the buffer Threshold
setting. If the stream has been transcoded to Flac there can be perhaps
between 30secs to 2mins. It gets worse if user pauses the stream - some
short pauses are handled by LMS - when they get a bit long LMS stops the
streams. After a paused stream is resumed - the timecode of the playing
packet is not realtime. Furthermore the Live metadata for the stream
from BBC if often no longer available if pause is too long (long is also
undefined).

So for 1.5.x I didn't make any changes to metadata until rebuffering
solution have been settled why waste time rewriting code if the "live
delay" solution didn't work for all. I think it is "good" enough for
beta. Once rebuffering problem is managed I can look at tweaking
metadata delays.

LMS Delays display of in stream icy metadata by a calcualtion on the
bit rate of the stream but you will see the same effect of metadata out
of sync just not to the same extent. No problem with delays as
metatdata is instream close to audio data to which it refers.

quick update:
still all good, no rebuffering at all!! amazing.

However, 1st world problem I know, but the info about the song playing
is out of sync with the 3 mins delay. ie, you get the song info for the
'live radio' and the actual music is 3 mins behind that, this is on SB3.
On squeezeplay (on a joggler) i get 2 lines of info about the DJ session
you are listening too, but no song info at all. is this the same on
touch? I can't fully remember but I thought I used to get the song info
on the jogger in the past. But I might be mistaken.

I have on-air text enabled. always display station icon unchecked, and
live text on the bottom line for SB3.

Also, on the joggler the delay is shown as 0 mins delay? on SB3 shows as
3 mins. Odd?

I use a few Pis (2 or 3) as openvpn tunnel endpoints in bridge mode. OS
is raspbian lite. Over domestic internet links I consider Pi can run an
OVPN tunnel transparently: at full tilt (1 core loaded 100%) you can
move 30-35 Mbps over the encrypted tunnel, and that is more than the
typical upload bandwidth of a domestic internet connection.
Reliability/robustness are very good if you don't mess with the node too
much (lock the Pi in a closet otherwise someone will inadvertently shut
down power or data connections...)

I always use OVPN in bridge mode, "old style bridging" they call it
these days, ie a simple p2p OVPN config, and bridging + DHCP and other
services handled outside openvpn.
I don't use it regularly for my SBs, but I have tested it with remote
SB3s and menu control and discovery are perfectly fine. YMMV but the
tunnel should be ok for MP3s, and a bit slow for raw or hi-res FLAC
files. But then of course you can add a local LMS server and some sort
of mirroring service if you'd like...

I thought -even began- of writing some how-to for SB users who want to
bring a Squeezebox to the cabin in summer and would like to keep using
their server and collection at home. There is a lot of details to
consider so I did not go through with it.
But here is the skinny on the architecture for a Pi as OpenVPN endpoint
in bridged mode, feel free to ask:

Code:

LAN
 --
eth0 [DHCP] (†)
 --

 LAN<->VPN routing + iptables masq./filtering (*)
 Your options for VPN clients:
 1. default gw through eth0 ("split vpn") or,
 2. default gw through the tunnel ("full vpn" aka "hide my ass") --useless and
costly IMHO.

 VPN
 --
br0 (fixed IP *)
 wlan0
tap0
usb0 (†)
ebtables filtering (+)
 --

Ethernet clients on the VPN network with Pi (†) :

- If the LAN router groks VLANs, then use eth0.1234 as the LAN
interface, and bridge the tagless eth0 to br0 to allow VLAN-unaware
clients to participate in the VPN. A dumb switch is needed between Pi
 and router.
- If the LAN router doesn't handle VLANs, add an interface like an usb
ethernet adapter (usb0) and dedicate that to VPN ethernet client(s).
(FYI, a giga ether usb adapter has a throughput of ~200Mbps on Pi 3)

L2 or L3 bridge (*) : L2 provides isolation, it is useful in case LAN
and VPN networks use the same IP range. Aside that unfortunate and
easily solved case (you need to administer the VPN network range
anyways, ie define IP ranges per site), L3 is more flexible IMHO.

- If you give the bridge an IP address on the VPN network, you can
host services on Pi, eg ssh, web server, LMS. Requires routing on the
Pi, probably masquerading and possibly iptables filtering.
- Don't give the bridge an address and you get an L2 bridge. Dnsmasq,
hostapd or openvpn don't mind (they know how to listen by interface)
but other service might. With this setup no routing is necessary
-possible- between eth0 and br0 but VPN clients can't use the local
default gw, so clients are in "hide my ass" mode and depending on
their behavior this can load the VPN tunnel needlessly.

Local NTP service: a good clock is highly recommended. Won't help audio
quality any ;) but the Pi lacks an RTC clock and certificates used for
authentication in the VPN might not validate until the machine has
acquired an accurate date (eg 1 jan 1970 -> invalid certificate: issue
date in the future)

Local DNS cache/resolver listening on br0: dnsmasq. Always useful unless
the admin at the remote site is a security freak ;)

Option: Local dhcp service on br0 for VPN clients this side of the
bridge. The need for it depends on the reliability+latency of the link
to the remote site hosting services. Creates a second administration
point on the network so it makes more sense to give the Pi an IP on the
VPN network (*) to be able to access it from either site.
Requirements/strong reco:
 a
- filtering DHCP leases sent by the server at the remote end of the
 VPN network (+)
- reserving a small IP range for clients at local site (eg .150 to
 .160)
- dnsmasq can "no-dhcp" on specific interfaces, and deliver info
tailored per client (default gw, static routes, ...)

Option: Hostapd running in bridge mode and listening to wlan0. To make
your iPeng controller happy, and generally have wireless clients
participate in the VPN network. Pi 3 can handle 25 clients max,
practically 5-10 clients are fine IMHO. Using the default local gw is
probably a good idea if there are many wireless clients.

I think that's about it. HTH.

Remote music library ? can it conect to a VPN ? I just want to avoid the
otherwise easy just open the ports for LMS solution , because its
unsecure (see some treads about people being harrassed in the middle of

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] OpenVPN Client Player possible ?

2016-11-10 Thread d6jg

I have a site to site VPN from my main office to a sub office.
Everything works in that every controller can see every player etc.

Here you mustn't underestimate that there is a control issue which means
that either the player needs built in control (touch screen) or there
need to be other control devices also on the remote network.

These are the start points I have looked at

OpenWRT on a Raspberry Pi - it has easily installable modules for the
VPN and also a Squeezelite player but not the Touch Screen. Debian
based.
PiCorePlayer - has everything except the VPN client built in and ready
to go. TinyCore Linux
max2play - also has everything except the VPN client. Debian ?
dietpi - Debian again. Unsure at this stage whether it has an openVPN
client - it probablt does. All componenets except Touch Screen. This is
a newcomer to my thinking.

If the iPhone with openVPN is considered adequate as a controller then
the easiest to get going would be OpenWRT as it has the complete player
package and VPN available.

However if either of pCp or max2play had the VPN added then they would
be better options and I have realised that you wouldn't need a Touch
Screen at all as long as you had a browser etc to control. Just install
the full LMS option with local player create an empty Library but also
enable the "Remote Music Labraries" support. Unless I am mistaken that
will work with any local controller and no additional VPN will be
needed.

This VPN would be a very useful addition to piCorePlayer, installable in
the same way as LMS - this would be awesome!

Interesting but can't help without more info. There is very little code
change in 1.5.2. There is an option of starting playing from an earlier
time but if delay is set to "15 sec delay" and buffer threshold to 255
it will be the same as 1.4.9 except using HTTP/1.1 code. For me,
HTTP/1.1 means packet response are usually about 80-120ms vs 250ms so
delays should not be increased.

So like the Windows scenario, I'm guessing the issue might be a
combination of LMS platform and player. The Touch should be the
reference player - should be no delays. Other players such as Joggler,
upnpbridge, chromecast etc. from the reference.

what is the LMS server ?
Is it only Live streams that are affected ?
Are you in the UK ?
Are you using a VPN or similar to pretend to be in UK ?
Is transcoding happening ?

If you are unsing a single/dual core low power LMS system such as a RPi
v1. with somehting like castbridge - it may be worthwhile changing the
"live delay" to 1min to 2 min to see if building up a buffer of data
helps.

I must dust off my RPiv1 to see if that is an issue.
