Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin
Hi! I'm not sure if this belongs in the Material Skin thread or a thread for Music and Artist Information, but here goes. Recently I've been having an issue which I don't think has existed forever (I'd think I would have noticed) where the Material seems to be displaying album art generated from Music and Artist Information inconsistently. It's true if I use the android app or if I just navigate to the LMS material page on my mobile phone. Specifically: * on albums where I haven't yet gotten around to adding album art and Music and Artist Information plugin magically takes care of it for me * On I CAN see album art on a computer browser (both in queue and when clicking to make the player big) AND using the Material android app on a tablet (sideloaded onto two different Kindle Fires, specifically) on the "Playing" and Queue Tab * I do NOT see album art on a mobile phone either from the material android APP nor from a browser (Samsung Internet or Chrome) on the "Playing" Tab * But, the art DOES show up on the "Queue" tab though in tiny thumbnail format. Nothing obvious stood out to me when looking at the settings within the material app nor the Music and Artist Information plugin...and it's weird to me that it is working on larger android screens but not the smaller one. Is there some kind of cache I should be clearing? I tried clearing the app cache on the android app, but that didn't help. I could solve this by finally finding the time to put album art in place - been procrastinating on that project for ages :-) Thanks in advance for any thoughts! the_arm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9891 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109624 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Regarding Spotty showing the Album year in the default skin but not Material. I don't know if this is new or I'm blind (but I'm betting on "blind"), but if I do the same process as before in Material in Spotty, i.e. Artists -> Andrew Bird -> Albums and then click on an Album (Inside Problems), it DOES populate the year at that level when it shows the individual tracks on the album. So, I guess the request is, is there any way to have it show the year at the Albums level so that you can see which years the albums are from when selecting an album? Or, is that the protocol limitation you were referring to Craig/Michael? One more screenshot, attached. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin
Hi - I love Material Skin! There's a discrepancy in how it behaves compared to the default skin, though, when using Spotty and I'm wondering if it is just me or if there's a bug? Default behavior: when "Show Year with Albums" is enabled under interface settings, the Default skin will show the year in parentheses next to the album. Example, if you go into Spotty -> Artists -> (select an artist) -> Albums, it will show the year next to the album. (And it won't if "Show Year with Albums is disabled".) For me, Material Skin doesn't show the year if it is enabled (or disabled) following the same path into an album. I've checked on a browser as well as with the android app. I don't know if it's extra info or not, but Material Skin does display the year in parentheses after the album when browsing local music. Thanks for your response. I just tried it on my setup (MacOS server, latest version) and the the server approach behaves exactly how I'd expect it to, but the squeeze control app does not. There's a difference between server and app behavior. Specifically: Via the server: if I select My Music -> Genres -> Holiday (as an example) -> and then select the triangle play button that is in the same row as a specific artist it will play JUST the holiday albums by that artist. Via squeeze control: if I select My Music -> Genres -> Holiday (or whatever) -> scroll to specific artist, press and hold the circle-plus button and select play, it will queue ALL albums by that artist, not just the holiday albums. (Same with Add To End and Play Next, both add all albums not just the specific genre'd albums). Of note - it does behave as I'd expect if I short click the circle-plus button. In that case it adds just the holiday albums by that artist to the end. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
Hi there - longtime squeeze control user, I love it. I encountered some unexpected behavior today. I went into my local music via My Music -> Genres and picked a Genre (Holiday, in my case) and it shows all artists that have music in that Genre. I wanted to add all the holiday music by that artist (e.g. Canadian Brass) to the end of my playlist so I long clicked on the plus and then selected Add to End. It, instead, added all of the albums by that artist instead of just the ones in that genre and added them all. After experimenting, the same is true with Play Next or Play. I think I usually "short click" the plus symbol. This adds to end and behaves as I'd expect - only adding the music from that artist that is in the selected Genre. So, it's an easy workaround, obviously, but can (should?) this behavior be fixed? Not sure how others use it. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.8.x - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox
Hello - I've found recently that Spotty (through the LMS web interface) will only pull 199 songs into a playlist regardless of the length of the playlist on spotify. This is NOT using the spotify connect method, just the standard web server approach. I recall seeing in an earlier thread that the max was 500. So I'm wondering if something changed, or if I have something setup incorrectly on my end. I don't think I've really paid attention to the playlist length until recently, so I don't know if I ever had longer playlists or not. The only playlist setting I've found on the server so far is settings->advanced->performance->maximum playlist length, which I have set at 500. (which I'm guessing is default). My server is on OSX 10.14.5, Spotty 2.8.3, helper 0.20.0 If this is a new limitation, the previous thread mentioned something about entering a Spotify Client ID to remedy it - is this a feasible approach? thanks for the help!! the_arm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9891 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110455 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hello - it is working again! Thank you so much. New issue, though - one I'm sure I've never tested. On the web interface (server:9000) "Years" and "Places" works as you'd expect. "Venues" and "Songs" do not - they give odd indexing on the page (Items 382 to 381 of 651 for Venues, Items 346 to 345 of 889 for Songs) and don't display anything to select from. Multiple browsers - firefox and chrome. However it works just as you'd expect in all 4 categories the Squeeze Ctrl app on my android phone. So I'm certain I've never run into this issue before since I doubt I've ever used the web interface to access this extension! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Start MusicIP at boot on Ubuntu
the reason why it has the su in there is to run the mmserver as a nonpriveleged user instead of root. So, it is supposed to switch to that account when it launches mmserver...so, I can see why it would ask for a password if you aren't root to start with when you are playing around with it on the command line. I'm kinda of a linux newbie too but as I understand it all the scripts in your /etc/init.d are run by root during bootup. Actually, I think the symlinks that are found in your /etc/rc*.d are run based on the runlevel. Maybe there isn't a symlink in your /etc/rc*.d folder prompting it to run at start? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBootupHowto so, no, you shouldn't have to enable the root login, it was just a way to see if it worked for you that way or not. 2 other things come to mind: 1) I also installed BUM to make sure that mmserver started before squeezecenter (just like in that wiki article I linked before) 2) the reason I had to switch to nohup su was because with 9.04 Ubuntu is moving away from the /etc/init.d method to something else, supposedly. They talk about it in that link above. Maybe on a fresh install it just doesn't work anymore and I got lucky with the upgrade? Anyway, it sounds like I'm just leading you on a wild goose chase -- maybe someone with more ubuntu knowledge can jump in and solve it better than me! -- the_arm the_arm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9891 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66953 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Start MusicIP at boot on Ubuntu
that just jogged my memory, hopefully in a good way :-) In your current Ubuntu setup, can you actually run the su command from the command line and login as root? I remember when I first set up my ubuntu box they had disabled root logins through su and expected sudo instead. I re-enabled root logins like this: http://www.debianadmin.com/enable-and-disable-ubuntu-root-password.html For what it's worth, if I su to root and run /etc/init.d/mmserver start, it does NOT ask me for a password. It DOES say nohup: ignoring input and appending output to `nohup.out', though...but it starts the mmserver just fine. Trying it as a non-privileged user, however, fails to start it. -arm -- the_arm the_arm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9891 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66953 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Start MusicIP at boot on Ubuntu
Hi there - I don't know if this is the solution to your problem or not..but when I upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04 my mmserver script, which was pretty much the one from here (and the default that came with MusicIP): http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Integrating_MusicIP_with_SqueezeCenter stopped working, and had the same behavior that you describe. To make it work I found a solution on the MusicIP forums...but looks like they are dead now. Essentially, I had to place a nohup in front of both su's. so that it looks like: Code: #! /bin/sh # NON-PRIVIELEGED USER TO RUN MUSICMAGICSERVER. USER= # PATH TO THE MUSICMAGICMIXERSERVER export MUSICHOME= case $1 in start) nohup su - $USER -c $MUSICHOMEMusicMagicServer start/dev/null echo Running MusicMagicServer exit ;; stop) nohup su - $USER -c $MUSICHOMEMusicMagicServer stop/dev/null echo Stopped MusicMagicServer exit ;; *) echo Usage: /etc/rc.d/init.d/mmserver { start | stop } exit ;; esac then everything magically worked. Obviously you still need to configure your USER and MUSICHOME (like it says in the wiki..) -- but I'm guessing you already got that far. hope this helps! -arm PS: anyone know what's up with MusicIP? Thanks for the prompt reply, Michael! Or is that out of scope for your plugin? Clearly, I don't have a feel for who uses your plugin or for what purposes. This is probably outside of the norm, though, since I'm using it simply because of what, arguably, is a lack of functionality in the Date/Time screensaver. One question, one comment: * Is there any way within MusicInfoSCR to have the Alarm Bell icon display in the upper right, like there is in the date/time screensaver? I couldn't figure it out if there was. * For whatever reason, if I try to leave the top left corner as blank in the MusicInfoSCR setup, when the player actually kicks into the MusicInfoSCR screensaver it actually superimposes Now Playing there. (I've attached a screenshot from softsqueeze - it does the same thing on my boom). It doesn't matter to me - I just stuck the notesymbol there instead. Everything has been super easy and works like a charm on my decrepit old Fedora Core 1 fileserver. ...that is, until I tried to install AlienBBC. I roughly followed the directions on https://www.ripcaster.co.uk/node/18, starting where it talks about installing LAME, except I had to build mplayer from source. But, I'm fairly convinced mplayer is working. In fact when I do the standalone test that I've read about (mplayer -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -playlist http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/realplayer/media/fmg2.rpm) I get sound out of my FC1 box when I plug in headphones to the sound card (first time I've ever tried that, btw.) Anyway, the problem comes about, as far as I can tell, with the -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 part of the streaming command. If I add that in to the standalone test I get an error: (here's the relevant part) [AO PCM] Info: To write WAVE files use -ao pcm:waveheader (default). [AO PCM] Failed to open /dev/fd/3 for writing! If I change /dev/fd/3 to just a filename (like /home/username/test) it fills up a file, so I don't think the -ao option is broken. If I look in the /dev/fd/ folder there is no 3, only 0 1 2 and 255. This is where my just-enough-to-be-dangerous linux knowledge fails me. Is there a way to add a 3 in there? Looks like somehow they point to /dev/pts/0 and that the folder is a symlink to /proc/self/fd When I googled I ran across a similar problem with FreeBSD and they said the fix was to: mount -t fdescfs fdescfs /dev/fd but mount doesn't seem to support that on my system it says: mount: fs type fdescfs not supported by kernel So. Any thoughts? Can anyone suggest a workaround? I'd love to have AlienBBC work...not sure it is worth doing a full reinstall of linux over, though, if that's the solution. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC woes
Wow you are quick! Thanks! I had found his website at http://oinkzwurgl.org/ssods but wasn't making much progress finding the patch (now I know why). I will definitely PM him asking for this patch. Out of curiosity, though, can you give me a bit more detail about option #1? I do have mkfifo on my system. Would I actually use mkfifo to create a new /dev/fd/3 ? (I assume mode 777, looking at the man page for mkfifo it looks like it needs a mode) Under what circumstances would I use more than one instance of AlienBBC? ...sorry I'm such a novice. I agree that getting mplayer to support the stdout sounds like a good path and I'll pursue that one first.
