[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC

2009-07-10 Thread mitip

I had Alien BBC working fine and moved to 7.3.3. on an XP server. When
testing from the settings plugin page it work fine but will not stream
to a player when I use the IP:9000/stream.mp3 method. This includes
iTunes running on the same machine. It used to work fine streaming to
Tuner App on iPhone also but this has stopped as well. This is the log
error.

It looks like your SC is trying to transcode WMA to MP3 but it is not
setup.

Please give details of SC - what OS are you using ? If it is Linux or
OSX then perhaps AlienBBC is not properly installed as it will be
providing WMA decode.

In WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetype is WMA - MP3 enabled or greyed out
?

If you are trying to playing a WMA stream to stream.mp3 - yopu need
something to decode WMA and lame to encode it into MP3.

On Linux and OSX - AlienBBC will decode WMA, on XP there is a SC
supplied app to do the job.

I don't know the iPhone capabilities - is it not able to play WMA
streams directly ? If so then just let iPhone play the BBC URLs
directly and forget about SC.

I am not sure which version of lame.exe SC is setup to use - lame.exe

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-07-04 Thread Gingermagic

Changing the bitrate on my helped to make AlienBBC work on my SlimP3,
but now normal music on my system (MP3's) struggle to play properly.
They pause regularly (usually once or twice within a song) and have to
re buffer themselves to catch up.

Could someone tell me what the line used to be so that I can see if
changing it back fixes this issue. Does anyone know what else this could
be? Is there a way to get both normal system music and AlienBBC working
on an ols SliMP3 player or is it being ignored as being too old these
days?

Don't see why it should be. All used to be fine before recent updates.

OS is Ubuntu 9.04 if that helps.

Cheers

If you only changes the line RTSP MP3 - it will only afect RTSP formats
and not any other format MP3 - so yor MP3 problem is coincidental and
unrelated.

You should check whether you made other changes to your system and not
just the RTSP one.

You can disable a plugin from settings and rebbot to easily undo the
RTSP change.

RealAudio is not native in SB players.

The WMA BBC live stations are now available outside of the UK so there
is no need for AlienBBC because WMA is supported natively. However I
think Listen Again (and possible Local Radio) is still only available in
RealAudio so AlienBBC is still needed for these.

Extension Downloader does not install mplayer.

AlienBBC will try to install mplayer on Windows as the Windows binary
works on all Windows platforms. AlienBBC does not try to install
mplayer on Linux as processor and kernel can be different on different
systems.

Where did your mplayer come from as it nay not have RealAudio compiled
?

Read carefully the FileTypes tabs - does it say mplayer.sh or mplayer ?

If it says mplayer then it is likely you have installed SSODS. Have you
installed SSODS ?

If you are using SSODS, there are special non standard mods for
AlienBBC - please read the SSODS FAQ.

What model NAS have you got ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC on Synology

2009-05-18 Thread rudolffischer

Hi everyone

I have seen quite a few posts about how to fix AlienBBC plugin issues,
but I have no clue about Linux, so I'm a bit lost.
I have installed the AlienBBC Plugin on my Synology DS408 using
Extension downloader. Then turned off Squeezecenter and turned it back
on. AlienBBC shows up under internet Radio and has a settings page. All
the submenus are there. RTSP is listed under filtypes and mplayer.sh is
listed as the decoder. So far so good.

When I play Virgin MP3 streams through AlienBBC everything works fine.

When I play BBC Realaudio streams, the stream plays / counts the
seconds, but I get no sound.

Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot and Regards
Rudi

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-04-16 Thread ovonrein

I fortunately just stumbled over this thread after very nearly tearing
out all my remaining hairs when my old Squeezebox V1 suddenly ceased to
play BBC stations after I upgraded SC (V3 and SoftSqueeze were just
fine).

I can confirm that nothing other than modifying custom-convert.conf
will actually work (and what a sweet place to hide that file (sic)).

Has this been reported to Slim as a bug? For it appears to me that
$BITRATE$ is a token that should be replaced with whatever I configure
in my bitrate limiting? I know that others in this thread *did not*
set bitrate limiting. However, in my experience, this is required for
anything pre-Squeezebox V2: my V1 never played the BBC out of the box
- I always needed to throttle. Therefore, the player config for my V1
had throttling set to 128.

From this thread, it seems to me that this setting is not correctly
substituted for $BITRATE$...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-04-04 Thread bpa

What does this tell us? Does this point us towards a better solution?

Not sure except SlimMP3 is treated special.

In the logs there is a buffer threshold is shown to be 65535. I odn't
have a SlimMP3 but I have tried using a bufferThreshold routine) to get
buffer this low and I cannot.

There are two possibilities.

1. AlienBBC timing has too long a startup for SlIMP3
2. The 65535 threshold is somehow blocking with flow control in the
mplayer-lame chain. Perhaps socketwrapper is dying or killing off the
chain (it does that if no data movement).

This could be tested if you run SC from a command prompt window and
player.source set to DEBUG - this will generate and show message from
socketwrapper.

Otherwise I think only a developer with slimp3 can investigate further.
I think user awy might be one to ask as he also was responsible for the
buffer threshold stuff. The issues is probably no noticed on non
Windows platforms since bit rate limiting works and/or no
socketwrapper.

I think you will need to change directory to the SC server first and
then run squeezecenter.exe

Make sure you change the command window size (use menu from icon in top
left hand corner of command window) to something like 300 wide and 3000

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-04-03 Thread ashimmin

Help me here. I have the same Alien BBC problem with a Slimp3 but I
don't seem to be able to fix it as you suggest. I'm running:

Version: 7.3.2 - 24695 @ Mon Jan 19 18:55:04 PST 2009

on WinXP

I've created this custom-convert.conf in Program
Files\SqueezeCenter\server

flc mp3 * *
# FB:{BITRATE=-B
%B}T:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}D:{RESAMPLE=--resample %D}
[flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -r -x -q
$QUALITY$ $RESAMPLE$ -v $BITRATE$ -

This should work, right? What have I done wrong?

Thanks

Alice

If you are hearing static - then it is a lame version problem.

Go back to original conf file.

Determine what version of lame you are running and add/remove -x
according to whether you are running 3.96.1 or later.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-04-03 Thread bpa

It wasn't clear whether you edited the Alien custom-convert.conf file or
created your own and since you didn't say what was heard silence and
static are symptoms for two different problems. The advice below is
based on the fact you are on Windows and doing bit rate limiting.

First the flc mp3 will do nothing for AlienBBC which uses RTSP.

Second, bit rate limiting on transcoded streams does not work on
Windows. It works on Linux and OSX systems.

So you cannot use bit rate limiting to change the mp3 so you will need
to modify the RTSP behaviour when transcoding to MP3 which is the RTSP
MP3 * * entry in Alien custom-convert.conf.

This will affect all players using RTSP-MP3. I think you can use the
* * to limit to say SlimP3 players.

should I be editing the custom-convert.conf in this Alien location and
if so how should I edit it. It already seems to have the -r and -x

A clean unmodified AlienBBC installation with no bit rate limiting
should work with SliMP3. Try that first before doing anything mods or
changes.

If it plays silence (not static) - then get a log with player.source
set to INFO of trying to play a live stream.

This error message usually means mplayer, socketwrapper or lame is not
working.

Socketwrappper can be stopped by security/AV software. Do you have
security s/w installed ?

Can you check the following;
1. Does mplayer installation test work OK ?
2. If 1 works then can you play AlienBBC on Softsqueeze ?
3. If 2 is OK - then disable Filetypes RTSP-WAV and RTSP-Flac and
trying playing AlienBBC on Softsqueeze.

Since case 2 Softsqueeze works OK then mplayer, socketwrapper and flac
are working. NO need to worry about security s/w

To test 3.
* Open WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes.
* There are 3 RTSP entries with dropdown boxes. Set the Flac and WAV
entries to disabled and you should be left with just MP3 enabled (with
mplayer/lame).

This will force AlienBBC to play using MP3 on all players - including
Softsqueeze.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3

2009-04-03 Thread bpa

The log shows that there is something about the settings SC has used
when streaming to SlimMP3. The SoftSuqeeze test shopws the basic
command settings are correct.

At the moment I can only suggest two things to try.

1. Edit the custom-convert.conf file in Plugins/Alien and change the
RTSP-MP3 entry to reduce speed of audio stream.
by changing $BITRATE$ to 64 for 64kbps.

[mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache
128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao
pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -r -x -q
$QUALITY$ -b 64 - -

2. Try increasing the Radio Station Timeout to 20 in
Settings/Advanced/Network

After changing the custom-convert.conf you will need to restart SC.

Changing the station timeout made no difference.

Changing the bitrate to 64K however did work. The Slimp3 now shows
'buffering xx%' and when it fills plays the station.

What does this tell us? Does this point us towards a better solution?

I don't think I am doing anything unusual so up to date help would be

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - listen again list is incomplete

2009-02-28 Thread Brent

When I try to listen to the most recent edition of a daily programme on
BBC Radio Jersey the more recent editions are not listed in the Alien
BBC menu, instead it lists an edition from 2 or 3 days previous. I
checked with the BBC web page and can see that the default is to group
programmes up by series and to only show the earliest available
episode. You then have to open up the series by clicking on 'show 3
more' to see the more recent programmes. Alternatively you can click
on 'order by most recent' to ungroup the programmes and see the most
recent ones. This remains a problem for Alien BBC - I think the script
needs to be updated to reflect the BBC HTML.

mplayer.sh is part of AlienBBC - it is in the Plugins/Alien/Bin

rest of Plugin. This should be the case when using Extension

MPlayer is a media player see www.mplayerhq.hu . You need to locate a

Right, found that cheers. Still no joy though, no sound still.

What I've done so far:

Switched off Squeezecenter.

Deleted the original and outdated AlienBBC.

Restarted Squeezecenter.

Used Extension Downloader (v0.1) to update AlienBBC to Alien BBC
(v2.4a4-7.3).

Shut down and restarted Squeezecenter.

Check the location of AlienBBC, it has 2 listed:

/mnt/freenas/slimnas/var/squeezecenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins
and
/mnt/freenas/slimnas/squeezecenter/Plugins

I then shutdown squeezecenter again and edited the file as recommended
on

in
/mnt/freenas/slimnas/var/squeezecenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins)

That patch requires a special version of mplayer patched to allow output
to stdout. Have you installed the special version of mplayer ? I think
some users have referred to it as mplayer-stdout

The patches are all because of Freenas limitations compared to Linux.
Some NAS with similar limitations have to apply similar patches.

By the look of things the patch required is simply the change to the
custom-convert.conf file as detailed below, which I've already done?
mplayer included with SlimNAS (which is on the FreeNas) is patched to
output the stream to stdout, and then the change I've done above.

I copied the wrong conf file in the previous post but the issue about
the text in red is still correct.

When you patch files - you patch the changes and leave additions
/deletions alone.

In this case - take the custom-convert.conf of the installed AlienBBC
as the basis and just change the mplayer lines as some spaceing in the
new lines is very critical.

So your changes to the official custom-sonvert.conf should be something
like the following.
all mplayer.sh shoudl be changed to mplayer and any line with
-ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$
or
-ao pcm:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$

should be changed into
-ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=- $FILE$ 2/dev/null

There could be an issue if you are using RTSP-MP3 - you may or may not
need the -x after [lame] depending on which version of lame is
installed.

I think I have solved the problem.
I installed LAME in server-bin-MS32-x86-multi-thread instead of

Then I changed the RTSP files to MP3 disabled and enabled lame/flac.
Now the Alienbbc audio works fine, and I still have LAME at 320.

Did you reboot the PC (not just restart SC) after the upgrade - with

Yup. I have the same problem, but I think it's because the link here:

7.1/7.2 and then you get 'Plugin is incompatible with this version of

Can someone tell me if there is a link to the correct Install pack for

On the same web page - look carefully - the first link for AlienBBC on
SqueezeCenter 7.3 - please see here. will bring to this page
http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/installation.html
Which has the proper instructions about installing on 7.3 using

I think the other 7.3 links with downloads were for 7.3beta which is no
longer compatible with released 7.3. They should be removed as it is
confusing since 7.3 is released.

Thanks for your reply vdeknock.

I'd never had problems until I upgraded everything: 1GB Disk + latest
version of QNAP Firmware. The SSOTS promised to make it all so much
simpler, and would have been too if I was using my proper network.

I was hoping to use the automated Extension Downloader, as you say, as
it looked to be much easier, and I would have too, except for my shared
connection issues with the mobile broadband thingy (it's just for
laptops really).

Before the upgrade, and when I had a proper network, I loved using the
Alien BBC, and Last FM. I used to get occasional buffering problems,
but it usually conincided with the BBC site iself experiencing heavy
traffic, rather then issues with the Alien Plugin.

Anyway, thanks again (and I'll be sure to use the automated processes
next time).

best wishes,

Philip

Works OK for me on 24919.

Connection Timeout is usually a network or security issue especially as
the test only uses mplayer and does not involve SC.

With windows - I suggest reboot the PC just in case there is some
caching issues. Then check security which could be blocking port 554
(RealAudio) or letting mplayer use network.

Extension Downloader is even easier as it allows you to do automatic
updates and just a restart gets the new version running. With the
restart I find it tends to fail to start the first time, but pressing
start again and all is working like a charm.

I find that I still get some buffering issues with AlienBBC, but using
the internet radio option I have no issues. Not sure if this is an
issue with the process of the stream on the QNAP T209. But it does
work, at the moment I am playing with the LastFM stuff, that so far is
my most fav stream.

The version you installed is for 7.1 and 7.2.

On 7.3.x the easiest way to install AlienBBC is to use the Extensions
Downloader plugin (see Settings/Plugins/Extensions Downloader/settings)

For SSOTS you will need to do the necessary mods to the
custom-convert.conf files. You should search the forum for the special
additional lines required for 7.3 to complete the changes needed for
SSOTS.

If you system cannot resolve www.squeezenetwork.com then you have other
network/config problems on your system and network. After setting the

will not resolve.

If you wish to go for the manual install recent alienbbc builds can be
found here.

do a forum search other ssots/ssods users have addressed this issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update

2009-02-08 Thread snoopy

Thanks for the tips - if anyone's interested the following steps have
fixed my problem:

Go to Public and delete the contents of the Plugins Folder.
Replace this with the latest version of Alien BBC. The link to it is:
http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/files/alienbbc-linux-v2.4a4-7.3.zip

Once you unzipped the file, simply drag Alien to the empty Plugins
FOlder.

Then open up the SSOTS page (recommended because it automates otherwise
complex tasks for us mere mortals - you can find this in your QNAP
System. Login as Admin, go to System Tools/QPKG. This will give you
the link to the SSOTS Page.

Once SSOTS interface is open, gO to Extras.

Click Import Plugins and let it do its thing.

You'll be asked to Restart Squeeze centre, so ...

Restart Squeeze Centre (Again you can do this from the SSOTS interface
by clicking on Status, then clicking Stop.

After a moment you can click Start and squeezecentre will load up.
Wait a while (you really will have to wait ... give it a couple of
minutes perhaps).

Then go to Squeeze Centre and check Settings/Plugins.

If all is well, you'll see the Alien BBC Plugin installed and ready to
go :o)

Just as a final note:

My network issues are probably because I'm using a little Mobile
Broadband dongle at the moment, and in order for the QNAP server to
connect to the internet it must be connected to my computer via an
ethernet cable. As the QNAP hasn't been very successful at getting to
the internet via this means I've been grabbing the software and
transferring it semi-manually. I just hadn't been able to find the
latest version of ALien BBC.

That link you provided was very useful as I could discern the relevant
links for myself.

Thankyou very much for all your help bpa.

Everything's working just fine now (and I can't wait to move into my
new flat when I can have proper broadband and a proper network again.
I'm sure this would all have worked first time if it wasn't for my
Mobile Broadband limitations).

best wishes,

Philip

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update

2009-02-07 Thread snoopy

Hi Guys,
I hope I'm not repeating something that's in another thread (I
certainly couldn't find the same topic, but my apologies if I am).

I recently used the QPKG facility on my QNAP TS-109 to install SSOTS.
The version number is: SSOTS_3.15_TS-109

Following the instructions I installed squeezecenter-7.3.2

All went well, and the install went just fine. I indexed my music and
everything.

The only problem seems to be that Alien BBC wasn't installed. I had
really hoped that it would be. However, I followed the SSOTS
instructions and

1/ created a Plugins folder on the Public drive.

2/ got the latest version of Alien BBC from www.x2systems.com (i.e.
alienbbc-linux-v2.2b1-7.1_7.2)

3/ copied the unzipped Plugins into it the Plugins folder.

4/ used the import plugins function on SSOTS

5/ restarted SqueezeCenter

When I went to check the Plugins AlienBBC was listed, but the box was
not ticked. There was instead a message saying, Plugin is
incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update.

The problem is ... the is no more recent update (not that I know of).

Can anyone help to solve this incompatibilty issue, please?

many thanks,

Philip

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Won't work on SqueezeCenter 7.3.1

2 problems.

1. Nothing works. SqueezeCenter appears to load the stream but when

out.

2. If you select Listen Again A-Z no programs are found under any

The new iPlayer plug in works but I want Alien BBC to work as it lets
you use the international feeds that work outside the UK.

This all went wrong when I upgraded to 7.3.

 lost after an update.

I have tracked down the URL for Newshour and it is
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/meta/tx/nb/newshour_au_nb.ram;. This
looks quite similar to prior versions of the url.

Pls let me know if you need any further info to help track down the
bug.

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC: Problems with BBC Worldservice

2009-01-25 Thread bpa

Under InterNet Radio/World/National Networks/BBC/World Service

You have choice of the many different BBC world services.

The no items programs is a bug - this is usually happens when BBC
makes a change to their web site design - I'll look into it.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC: No items found in playlist

2009-01-24 Thread Jereem

Hi,
I'm running SqueezeCentzer 7.3 on a Win XP with SP3. The PC is a music
Server with AMD Geode 500 and 1 GB.
I installed SqueezeCenter two days ago and it works fine. I can operate
my Boom and my Squeezebox 3, which is linked to my Stereo. But I cannot
listen to BBC from home (which is in Gemany).
I installed Alien BBC via the Extension downloader and mplayer came
with it. mplayer even plays Radio 2 when tested.
In the Squeezecenter Explorer I can see Alien BBC and when I open Radio
1, there are listed all the programes, that were broadcast (I am not
talking about the listen again service). Clicking on a programme on the
PC, Boom starts to play the programme. Trying to change the programme on
Boom directly, it says No items found in playlist.
I didn't knowingly exclude any programmes from connecting with the
internet in the Windows firewall, there is no other firewall installed.
As a DSL modem I use Fritz 7170, which is linked to my PC via LAN
cable.
I would be glad if anyone were able to assist in finding a solution.
Thank you. Jereem

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC: No items found in playlist

2009-01-24 Thread bpa

Trying to change the programme on Boom directly, it says No items
 found in playlist.

Can you be more explicit and precise.

I have seem a occasional problem where the No items found in playlist
appears (last week it used to happen with Radio4/categories/Comedy) but
it is transient so I need specific and precise information in order to
track the problem down.

2009-01-24 Thread Jereem

Hi,
thanx again.
But tricky answer of yours.

bpa;388801 Wrote:
Can you increase a timer - in WebUI Settings/Advanced/Network/Radio
Station Timeout - change to 20 secs.
Yes I did.

bpa;388801 Wrote:
You said AlienBBC works when you choose a station from the WebUI but
not from the Boom using the Boom controls/remote. Is that correct ?

Yes, and I could only listen to past programmes.

bpa;388801 Wrote:
  From WebUI try
 Internet Radio/AlienBBC/BBC Live streams/Radio 4 Live - click play
 icon.

Works. Great. I didn't know that I had to choose from Live Streams.
What do the later entries (radio stations) mean then? Are they for the
listening again service only? And then, what is iplayer for?

bpa;388801 Wrote:
   From Boom.
Internet Radio/AlienBBC/BBC Live Streams/Radio 4 Live - press Boom play
 button.

Yes, it works. Great. As said before, probably I didn't understand that
I had to choose Live streams as well. I went directly to the station on
the same level.
Still there is the questions about iplayer.
Thank you very much indeed.
