If you only changes the line RTSP MP3 - it will only afect RTSP formats and not any other format MP3 - so yor MP3 problem is coincidental and unrelated. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3
I fortunately just stumbled over this thread after very nearly tearing out all my remaining hairs when my old Squeezebox V1 suddenly ceased to play BBC stations after I upgraded SC (V3 and SoftSqueeze were just fine). I can confirm that nothing other than modifying custom-convert.conf will actually work (and what a sweet place to hide that file (sic)). Has this been reported to Slim as a bug? For it appears to me that $BITRATE$ is a token that should be replaced with whatever I configure in my bitrate limiting? I know that others in this thread *did not* set bitrate limiting. However, in my experience, this is required for anything pre-Squeezebox V2: my V1 never played the BBC out of the box - I always needed to throttle. Therefore, the player config for my V1 had throttling set to 128. From this thread, it seems to me that this setting is not correctly substituted for $BITRATE$... -- ovonrein ovonrein's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2130 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58441 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3
What does this tell us? Does this point us towards a better solution? Not sure except SlimMP3 is treated special. In the logs there is a buffer threshold is shown to be 65535. I odn't have a SlimMP3 but I have tried using a bufferThreshold routine) to get buffer this low and I cannot. There are two possibilities. 1. AlienBBC timing has too long a startup for SlIMP3 2. The 65535 threshold is somehow blocking with flow control in the mplayer-lame chain. Perhaps socketwrapper is dying or killing off the chain (it does that if no data movement). This could be tested if you run SC from a command prompt window and player.source set to DEBUG - this will generate and show message from socketwrapper. Otherwise I think only a developer with slimp3 can investigate further. I think user awy might be one to ask as he also was responsible for the buffer threshold stuff. The issues is probably no noticed on non Windows platforms since bit rate limiting works and/or no socketwrapper. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58441 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3
It wasn't clear whether you edited the Alien custom-convert.conf file or created your own and since you didn't say what was heard silence and static are symptoms for two different problems. The advice below is based on the fact you are on Windows and doing bit rate limiting. First the flc mp3 will do nothing for AlienBBC which uses RTSP. Second, bit rate limiting on transcoded streams does not work on Windows. It works on Linux and OSX systems. So you cannot use bit rate limiting to change the mp3 so you will need to modify the RTSP behaviour when transcoding to MP3 which is the RTSP MP3 * * entry in Alien custom-convert.conf. This will affect all players using RTSP-MP3. I think you can use the * * to limit to say SlimP3 players. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58441 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Since case 2 Softsqueeze works OK then mplayer, socketwrapper and flac are working. NO need to worry about security s/w To test 3. * Open WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes. * There are 3 RTSP entries with dropdown boxes. Set the Flac and WAV entries to disabled and you should be left with just MP3 enabled (with mplayer/lame). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3
The log shows that there is something about the settings SC has used when streaming to SlimMP3. The SoftSuqeeze test shopws the basic command settings are correct. At the moment I can only suggest two things to try. 1. Edit the custom-convert.conf file in Plugins/Alien and change the RTSP-MP3 entry to reduce speed of audio stream. by changing $BITRATE$ to 64 for 64kbps. [mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3 $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -r -x -q $QUALITY$ -b 64 - - 2. Try increasing the Radio Station Timeout to 20 in Settings/Advanced/Network After changing the custom-convert.conf you will need to restart SC. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58441 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC - fails on Slimp3
Changing the station timeout made no difference. Changing the bitrate to 64K however did work. The Slimp3 now shows 'buffering xx%' and when it fills plays the station. What does this tell us? Does this point us towards a better solution? When I try to listen to the most recent edition of a daily programme on BBC Radio Jersey the more recent editions are not listed in the Alien BBC menu, instead it lists an edition from 2 or 3 days previous. I checked with the BBC web page and can see that the default is to group programmes up by series and to only show the earliest available episode. You then have to open up the series by clicking on 'show 3 more' to see the more recent programmes. Alternatively you can click on 'order by most recent' to ungroup the programmes and see the most recent ones. In this case - take the custom-convert.conf of the installed AlienBBC as the basis and just change the mplayer lines as some spaceing in the new lines is very critical. I have the same problem, but I think it's because the link here: http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/ for Install pack for Squeezecenter 7.3 actually downloads the one for 7.1/7.2 and then you get 'Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update.' on the Plugins screen in Squeezecenter. Can someone tell me if there is a link to the correct Install pack for 7.3, cos I think that will solve it. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Won't work on SqueezeCenter 7.3.1
On the same web page - look carefully - the first link for AlienBBC on SqueezeCenter 7.3 - please see here. will bring to this page http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/installation.html Which has the proper instructions about installing on 7.3 using Extensions Dowbnloader/ I think the other 7.3 links with downloads were for 7.3beta which is no longer compatible with released 7.3. They should be removed as it is confusing since 7.3 is released. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58958 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update
Thanks for your reply vdeknock. I'd never had problems until I upgraded everything: 1GB Disk + latest version of QNAP Firmware. The SSOTS promised to make it all so much simpler, and would have been too if I was using my proper network. I was hoping to use the automated Extension Downloader, as you say, as it looked to be much easier, and I would have too, except for my shared connection issues with the mobile broadband thingy (it's just for laptops really). Before the upgrade, and when I had a proper network, I loved using the Alien BBC, and Last FM. I used to get occasional buffering problems, but it usually conincided with the BBC site iself experiencing heavy traffic, rather then issues with the Alien Plugin. Anyway, thanks again (and I'll be sure to use the automated processes next time). best wishes, Philip -- snoopy snoopy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23939 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59426 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC doesn't work with Squeezecenter 7.33
Works OK for me on 24919. Connection Timeout is usually a network or security issue especially as the test only uses mplayer and does not involve SC. With windows - I suggest reboot the PC just in case there is some caching issues. Then check security which could be blocking port 554 (RealAudio) or letting mplayer use network. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59878 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update
Extension Downloader is even easier as it allows you to do automatic updates and just a restart gets the new version running. With the restart I find it tends to fail to start the first time, but pressing start again and all is working like a charm. I find that I still get some buffering issues with AlienBBC, but using the internet radio option I have no issues. Not sure if this is an issue with the process of the stream on the QNAP T209. But it does work, at the moment I am playing with the LastFM stuff, that so far is my most fav stream. -- vdeknock vdeknock's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4467 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59426 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update
The version you installed is for 7.1 and 7.2. On 7.3.x the easiest way to install AlienBBC is to use the Extensions Downloader plugin (see Settings/Plugins/Extensions Downloader/settings) For SSOTS you will need to do the necessary mods to the custom-convert.conf files. You should search the forum for the special additional lines required for 7.3 to complete the changes needed for SSOTS. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59426 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update
If you system cannot resolve www.squeezenetwork.com then you have other network/config problems on your system and network. After setting the IP address for squeezenetwork, you will just hit more address which will not resolve. If you wish to go for the manual install recent alienbbc builds can be found here. http://code.google.com/p/alienbbc/downloads/list I really would not be sure of what I was doing. A step by guide would be very useful I don't have a SSOTS system - I just know it needs special changes - do a forum search other ssots/ssods users have addressed this issue. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59426 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update
Thanks for the tips - if anyone's interested the following steps have fixed my problem: Go to Public and delete the contents of the Plugins Folder. Replace this with the latest version of Alien BBC. The link to it is: http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/files/alienbbc-linux-v2.4a4-7.3.zip Once you unzipped the file, simply drag Alien to the empty Plugins FOlder. Then open up the SSOTS page (recommended because it automates otherwise complex tasks for us mere mortals - you can find this in your QNAP System. Login as Admin, go to System Tools/QPKG. This will give you the link to the SSOTS Page. Once SSOTS interface is open, gO to Extras. Click Import Plugins and let it do its thing. You'll be asked to Restart Squeeze centre, so ... Restart Squeeze Centre (Again you can do this from the SSOTS interface by clicking on Status, then clicking Stop. After a moment you can click Start and squeezecentre will load up. Wait a while (you really will have to wait ... give it a couple of minutes perhaps). Then go to Squeeze Centre and check Settings/Plugins. If all is well, you'll see the Alien BBC Plugin installed and ready to go :o) Just as a final note: My network issues are probably because I'm using a little Mobile Broadband dongle at the moment, and in order for the QNAP server to connect to the internet it must be connected to my computer via an ethernet cable. As the QNAP hasn't been very successful at getting to the internet via this means I've been grabbing the software and transferring it semi-manually. I just hadn't been able to find the latest version of ALien BBC. That link you provided was very useful as I could discern the relevant links for myself. Thankyou very much for all your help bpa. Everything's working just fine now (and I can't wait to move into my new flat when I can have proper broadband and a proper network again. I'm sure this would all have worked first time if it wasn't for my Mobile Broadband limitations). best wishes, Philip -- snoopy snoopy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23939 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59426 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update
Hi Guys, I hope I'm not repeating something that's in another thread (I certainly couldn't find the same topic, but my apologies if I am). I recently used the QPKG facility on my QNAP TS-109 to install SSOTS. The version number is: SSOTS_3.15_TS-109 Following the instructions I installed squeezecenter-7.3.2 All went well, and the install went just fine. I indexed my music and everything. The only problem seems to be that Alien BBC wasn't installed. I had really hoped that it would be. However, I followed the SSOTS instructions and 1/ created a Plugins folder on the Public drive. 2/ got the latest version of Alien BBC from www.x2systems.com (i.e. alienbbc-linux-v2.2b1-7.1_7.2) 3/ copied the unzipped Plugins into it the Plugins folder. 4/ used the import plugins function on SSOTS 5/ restarted SqueezeCenter When I went to check the Plugins AlienBBC was listed, but the box was not ticked. There was instead a message saying, Plugin is incompatible with this version of SqueezeCenter. Please update. The problem is ... the is no more recent update (not that I know of). Can anyone help to solve this incompatibilty issue, please? many thanks, Philip -- snoopy snoopy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23939 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59426 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC Won't work on SqueezeCenter 7.3.1
2 problems. 1. Nothing works. SqueezeCenter appears to load the stream but when you hit play it goes back to stop after 2 or 3 seconds. No sound comes out. 2. If you select Listen Again A-Z no programs are found under any letter. The new iPlayer plug in works but I want Alien BBC to work as it lets you use the international feeds that work outside the UK. This all went wrong when I upgraded to 7.3. What OS are you using ? If you are using Windows - did you reboot the PC ? 4. Did you have AlienBBC working before you upgraded to 7.3.x. If so what version of SC were you running and what version of AlienBBC ? 5. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC: No items found in playlist
Hi, I'm running SqueezeCentzer 7.3 on a Win XP with SP3. The PC is a music Server with AMD Geode 500 and 1 GB. I installed SqueezeCenter two days ago and it works fine. I can operate my Boom and my Squeezebox 3, which is linked to my Stereo. But I cannot listen to BBC from home (which is in Gemany). I installed Alien BBC via the Extension downloader and mplayer came with it. mplayer even plays Radio 2 when tested. In the Squeezecenter Explorer I can see Alien BBC and when I open Radio 1, there are listed all the programes, that were broadcast (I am not talking about the listen again service). Clicking on a programme on the PC, Boom starts to play the programme. Trying to change the programme on Boom directly, it says No items found in playlist. I didn't knowingly exclude any programmes from connecting with the internet in the Windows firewall, there is no other firewall installed. As a DSL modem I use Fritz 7170, which is linked to my PC via LAN cable. I would be glad if anyone were able to assist in finding a solution. Thank you.
