I updated again and libc versions did not change but now the Musicip
server does not appear to be running.

I updated my Pi4 Bullseye and the libc version changed so I thought I
would need to install a new i386 version. Apparently the change wasn't
enough to require a new version. The new armhf version is
2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1+deb11u5
while my installed i386 version is
2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1+deb11u2

Wouldn't it be possible to run MusicIP in docker? That would make

If anyone updates a Bullseye installation, note that the lib6c armhf
version is changed so you need to reinstall the i386 version.

I disabled "history" option in trackstat and now it's fine :) Starts
very quickly and uses little memory.
I installed the "lite" version of RPI OS.
Of course, mmserver is restarted every night.

I repeated these steps from the tutorial, so now it starts like before.
but still have the bus error.

Code:

cd ~
  wget http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool...28-10_i386.deb
  mkdir -p newpack oldpack/DEBIAN
  dpkg-deb -x libc6_2.28-10_i386.deb oldpack/
  dpkg-deb -e libc6_2.28-10_i386.deb oldpack/DEBIAN
  nano oldpack/DEBIAN/control
Set the version to the Rasbian version (add +rpi1) and remove the dependency
of libgcc1 and save the file
  rm oldpack/usr/share/doc/libc6/changelog.Debian.gz
  nano oldpack/DEBIAN/md5sums
Remove the line with the MD5 Sums for changelog.Debian.gz
  dpkg-deb -Z xz -b oldpack/ newpack/
The new package is now in the subfolder newpack, with the name of the new
version (e.g. libc6_2.28-10+rpi1_i386.deb)
  Install the new package:
  sudo dpkg -i newpack/libc6_2.28-10+rpi1_i386.deb

I just tried to open it on Edge and Chrome, both same results.

I haven't installed LMS yet, since I could not get this to work.

After the bus error, I can't start Musicip again.

Code:

osmc@osmc:~$ /home/osmc/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer start
  ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libarmmem.so' from /etc/ld.so.preload cannot
be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored.

It just ends with that. Normally it's:

Code:

osmc@osmc:~$ /home/osmc/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer start
  ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libarmmem.so' from /etc/ld.so.preload cannot

  Unsupported setsockopt level=0 optname=32

I also set MusicIp to auto start, but it does not start.

Yes, exactly. LMS uses 100% of the CPU during 20 minutes before it is
ready.
I have to say I have sometimes the same problem on my PC, so maybe it's
related to my music database. I'm using trackstat so I restored the
trackstat data backep after the installation, but it did'nt use to do it
on the RPI.

I don't use the LMS MusicIP plugin any more. I use mipmixer which is
used with "Don't stop the music". The advantage is that LMS does not
need to import the MusicIP data and doesn't use excessive memory during
the scan. The disadvantage is it is no longer possible to start a
MusicIP playlist directly from the LMS interface. But playing a single
track with "Don't stop the music" enabled starts a playlist.
Seems odd that LMS would take 20 minutes to start. Do you mean you can't
play music for 20 minutes when you restart LMS or reboot the Pi?

Hi everyone,
First of all, thank you all for being part of this wonderful community
of enthusiasts, it is very appreciable.

I just upgraded my RPI 3 to bullseye.
Thanks to trials from slartibartfast, it's working.I took up the frankd
tutorial for this new version and I noted what I did

-The libc6:i386 Deb Package needs to be modified to match the version of
its Raspbian equivalent (which has an additional +rpi1)-
Check the current libc6 version of the Raspberry: dpkg -s libc6:armhf
It's
Version: 2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1
- Find the equivalent version of the i386 libc Debian package from
https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/i386/libc6-
libc6 (2.31-13+deb11u2)
//Adapt the lines below with the current version://
cd ~
wget
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/glibc/libc6_2.31-13+deb11u2_i386.deb
mkdir -p newpack oldpack/DEBIAN
dpkg-deb -x libc6_2.31-13+deb11u2_i386.deb oldpack/
dpkg-deb -e libc6_2.31-13+deb11u2_i386.deb oldpack/DEBIAN
nano oldpack/DEBIAN/control
- Set the version line to the Rasbian version (2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1) -
Version:2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1
-and remove the dependency of libgcc-s1, libcrypt1and ; remove line-
Depends: libgcc-s1, libcrypt1
save the file
rm oldpack/usr/share/doc/libc6/changelog.Debian.gz
nano oldpack/DEBIAN/md5sums
-Remove the line with the MD5 Sums for changelog.Debian.gz-
dpkg-deb -Z xz -b oldpack/ newpack/
-The new package is now in the subfolder newpack, with the name of the
new version (e.g. libc6_2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1_i386.deb)-
//Install the new package://
sudo dpkg -i newpack/libc6_2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1_i386.deb

Everything wents fine, but LMS is very long to start, about 15 to 20 min
(I have 22K tracks), as it used to take a few minutes.
MusicIp seems to be working fine, but it also seems to use more memory
than before. At some moment, during a library scan, musicip used all the
free memory including the swap, so the rpi was not responding anymore.
I'm just trying a few things now until someone has an idea. I'm starting
to disable the swap, because I didn't have any previously and set
musicip to start at boot as before, and see what happens.

Thanks for digging out the old failure codes, Slartibartfast. The
multicast warnings are not a problem, this is a known limitation of old
QEMU versions and it worked in the past despite of the warnings.
It seems to be the bus error - this is very cryptic, in particular as it
happens when you open the web page.

2 ideas CypherMK:
Did you try to open the webpage with another browser (e.g. firefox,
chrome, edge?) Maybe some strange request kills the MusicIP webserver
component?

I guess you need to have the webpage opened to scan for your files and
create the database. But what happens if you start the MusicIP server,
then you start or re-start LMS with the MusicIP plugin active - does it
connected to your MusicIP server and does the server crash as well while
LMS connects?

The MusicIP server starts. When I go to MusicIP webpage it loads too.
But immediately after that I get this bus error. Then MusicIP is not
available anymore and it stopped running.

You should be able to get the same Don't stop the music mixes.
One benefit is that LMS does not need to read all the MusicIP data
during a scan.

In sugarcube I see: MusicIP Host Location. But I don't use this plugin.
I usually just use Musicip with Don't stop the music. Mixes are better
with that.

But I can't find any related settings in the Musicip plugin about
location. Only HTTP port.

But if I could get it running on the latest OSMC would be great. But I
got that bus error mentioned before.
I'm also trying to use multi boot with PINN. So I could use Libreelec on

It worked for me on an older version of OSMC on a Pi3b+. And I had it
running on raspbian on a pi 4 since last year. Don't know if it's 64 bit
or 32 bit.

Yes, but MIP on a different machine would have a different path.
MIPMixer also allows you to specify the hostname MIP is running on.

I analyze on a linux laptop (saving results to MIP's db file), but run
MIP on a Pi4 with LMS. Hence my MIP paths are different to LMS, and also
my MIP has entries for 'xxx.m4a.mp3' files - as MIP on Linux cannot
handle m4a, so I create temp .m4a.mp3 files for MIP to use - and my
plugin handles this xxx.m4a.mp3 <-> xxx.m4a conversion as well.

So far I know about

In principle it should also work with the 64bit version of Raspbian, but

The last time I got this running on OSMC was on an Raspberry Pi 3. Since
I'm on a Pi 4 now, I was using Raspbian. But there I could not use Kodi
19 (yet). And since I have a new 4K TV, Kodi 19 is needed for good
playback of 4K movies.

These are good news :-)
First big distribution upgrade, which doesn't require a totally
different approach like the others before...
Once I have gone through the process, I will update the first page

Thanks - I might have a go at getting this going on the 64-bit version
of the Raspberry Pi OS. Before coming back to the RPi, I once got
MusicIP running on a Debian Jessie image for the Odroid C2 which is a
64-bit board.

got as far as
"Set the version to the Raspbian version and remove the dependency of
libgcc1 and save the file."
In this case the dependencies are
libgcc-s1 and libcrypt1.
So do I just remove libgcc-s1 or both of them?
I can't remember how many dependencies were listed for Buster.

Maybe others can chime in who use OSMC - I know about some reports who
were successful in the past.
However a lot of things changed also for the OSMC image since August
2021 - OSMC changed to Kodi Matrix and a lot of parts were adapted and
patched to account for all Kodi changes (including drivers, potentially
for IP interfaces, a lot of stuff still manual down-stream patches).
I still do not believe this should cause issues for MusicIP, but you
never know - maybe other users of OSMC can share their version and if
MusicIP still works
The issue is not that MusicIP is not running - the issue is the
communication via API / Webinterface

For anybody like me with a "slight" gap in Linux knowledge that
encounters the same issue.
Last week (on a max2play image) after doing a sudo apt update and sudo
apt upgrade. As a result libc-dev-bin_2.28-10+rpt2+rpi1_armhf.deb got
installed.

As a result Musicip was not working anymore. I followed the first post
again, got an error and in the second try replaced:
Set the version to the Rasbian version (add +rpi1) and remove the
dependency of libgcc1 and save the file
With:
Set the version to the Rasbian version (add +rpt2+rpi1) and remove the
dependency of libgcc1 and save the file
And of course changed "sudo dpkg -i newpack/libc6_2.28-10+rpi1_i386.deb"
to "sudo dpkg -i newpack/libc6_2.28-10+rpt2+rpi1_i386.deb"

Not a clue what I did, but is working again now! Hope this helps someone
out...

(p.s. I am sure, by the lack of Google results I am finding that it is a
situation unique to me but I was initialy also unable to perform the
sudo apt upgrade. I got the error message unable to create
'/usr/bin/gencat.dpkg-new' After a couple of days of troubleshooting we
finally figured this one out. It turned out that something had set the
"immutable" flag on the /usr/bin folder. Check with sudo lsattr /usr
(the /bin folder will have an i in the output) and change with sudo
chattr -i /usr/bin. Again probably just me, but just saying so it's out
there)

All my tracks had the analysis results archived within the tags.
However, this I had done on my Win machine and based on MIP v1.9b6.
Rescanning using v1.8.1 (on Windows), overwriting the results in the
tags, and then copying the mp3s to the Raspberry, the headless server
recognized all 20k tracks in a few minutes as mixable. When I did this
using the stored results of v1.9b6 MIP didn't recognize anything, so it
seems there is a difference in the analysis algorithm.

I don't understand the behavior, though: I previously had scanned the
tracks with both v1.9b6 and v1.8.1 and compared the results of the
tags--both were identical. I also had deleted the old default.m3lib, so
that might also have had an influence.

Anyways, it works now. Thank you for your support!

It seems that your music analysis of the tracks (fingerprint) has not
been archived within the tracks (when analyzing with windows MusicIP).
Therefore the headless server wants to re-analyze these tracks again
which will take ages.
Your track need to contain the MusicIP fingerprint, see

First off, thanks for you quick responses, I do appreciate this.

If I try to not import the database, the headless MIP on the Raspberry
Pi 3 crashes (probably runs out of memory) before even analyzing one
track.
E.g. of the 100 test files I copied over, it recognizes 5 files and then
gives me the "validating, 95 remaining..." message--but this counter
never decreases.

Are you sure that the fingerprints are archived in the files - "Archive
Analysis" (use MP3 Tag to look if there is a fingerprint in a comment
field of the tracks).
Also - how long does the the analysis take per track when you rescan
with a raspberry pi?
I am pretty sure the problem is the database when copying or the lack of
embedded fingerprints (You need to "archive Analysis" after archiving
the tracks in windows, otherwise the fingerprint will not be embedded -
files will be modified with a comment tag and the fingerprint).

But that's exactly where I am stuck: All tracks have the results stored.
But if I copy my mp3s from Win to the Raspberry MusicIP does a full
rescan instead of using the available results...

I think that is the reason why it will not work.
You should scan and embed the fingerprint into the tracks via Windows
(that's the time consuming part) but you should not copy the m3lib
library to your raspberry (different path). Instead let the musicIP
sever of the Raspberry scan and create a new library - if it finds the
embedded fingerprints, scanning should be very reasonable and fast and
the library will be created withing few minutes.
Sugacube can handle different paths, but only when the MusicIP server
runs on a different machine. Moving the database / library will not work
as far as I know.

Yepp, did that: None of the tracks that the headless server tells me
that are mixable, have the option showing up in LMS...

Another yepp: I can see exactly that info (with different # of tracks).

Might be a reason that I scanned the tracks on a windows machine and
copied the default.m3lib over to the raspi? The music folder structure
on windows itself is identical with the one in the raspberry. However,
the absolute paths obviously differ: e.g. D:\Music\ABBA vs.
/home/pi/Music/ABBA. Opening default.m3lib in vi I can see the Windows
paths. However, I think I read somewhere that MusicIP can handle this.

All my mp3s have their analysis results stored in the respective
MUSICMAGIC tags. What I cannot do is run the scan in the headless
version on the pi itself as for some reason it doesn't recognize the
tags and cannot rebuild the DB based on the archived files. That's I
have to go the roundabout route via copying the default.m3lib from Win
to the raspberry...

The good news is that your MusicMagic Server is working, thus the
toughest part has been successful.
Did you try to look for different tracks if the mix is available via
context menu? I realized that for some tracks this MusicIP menu is not
available, not sure why (they should be mixable).
What happened during track scan: Did LMS import the MusicIP info (You

Hi all,

I'm trying in vain to get MusicIP working with LMS on a Max2Play
installation on a Pi 3.

- I followed the instructions to the point in the first post.
- I can run MIP in headless mode using the replacement interface
(everything standard, e.g. port 10002 etc.).
- I successfully imported a default.m3lib generated on a Win 1.8.1
  installation (for 100 test files).
- I can generate a mix from the headless interface for this library.
- I activated the MusicIP plugin in the LMS. All other plugins I
  deactivated to avoid any collisions.
- I did a full wipe and rescan of my DB in LMS.
- I started MusicMagicServer and after that re-started LMS so that it
would recognize MIP to be running.

BUT: When selecting in LMS the details of one of the tracks which showed
up as mixable in step #4, there is not the usual option to generate a
mix based on this track.

What am i doing wrong?

Thx in advance

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know that this also works on Ubuntu

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like the tutorial on the first page works
for buster installations now - it has been updated step by step to
account for different debian / raspbian generations.
Concerning the Spicefly Sugarcube proposal: This is up to CParker to
implement - I like the idea as it will be more straightforward using a
touch or radio...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Success: MusicIP and Spicefly Sugarcube running on Raspberry Pi

I followed your very good instructions and made myself familiar with how
MusicIP works. After setting up the server on my Raspberry Pi with
Max2Play and scanning my library for three days and nights straight on
two machines everythings works uncannily smooth. Thanks a lot for this
guide! I find it amazing that a piece of abandonware that's more than a
decade old still works so well.

Some things I found out during the process that might be helpful for
others:

- At first I got a lot of "Unanalyzeable" tracks. After stripping the
mp3s of all tags but ID3v1 and ID3v2.3 (!), that number dropped
drastically
- Characters that are illegal under windows in the filename are a
problem (I'm on a Mac)
- MusicIP 1.9 works just fine with Wine under MacOS Mojave. It's
actually hell of a lot faster with analyzing the files than my windows
machine.
- Analyzing too many files at once might slow down the process. I am not
sure of this, bit it felt slower when I selected more than 4000 files.
- Newer m4a files are unrecognizable for MusicIP analysis. I converted
them to mp3, analyzed them and copied the tags back to the m4as. Now
they are available for mixing.

I also have a suggestion: I'm using Spicefly Sugarcube. Is it possible
to have a quick switch in the Applications Section to switch MusicIP
processing on and off rather than going through settings?

Can you create mixes via the webinterface on port 10002 or start other
commands there? I guess your server is working, other users reported
this failure message before, see page 3, while the server was working
for them.
The server is not sent to the background, therefore your terminal is

the terminal to stop it.
You should create a start-script and register the server as system
service described in the tutorial or in more details on page 3

Actually I realized that when updating the instructions I lost the
installation of the binfmt.
Thus instead of "sudo apt-get install qemu"
It should be "sudo apt-get install qemu binfmt-support qemu-user".

The first page is updated and this problem should not re-occur

When you get mmserver working if you want to add the crontab entry to
restart the service every night you will probably find that the crontab
entries in the instructions don't work. I had to change them as shown in

>From the other thread https://github.com/CDrummond/musicip I did:

sudo apt-get install binfmt-support qemu-user

After a reboot I start MusicMagicServer and besides the normal warning
message I get:

Starting server on port 10002
Unsupported setsockopt level=0 optname=32
setsockopt - IP_MULTICAST_IF: Protocol not available
qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped
Segmentation fault

I can' t connect to port 10002.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Success: MusicIP and Spicefly Sugarcube running on Raspberry Pi

2021-03-11 Thread mvn2009

I'm installing this on a Raspberry Pi4 4Gb buster installation. Followed
the instructions in the first post and everything went well until I
tried to start MusicMagicServer:

pi@max2play:~ $ /home/pi/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer start
-bash: /home/pi/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer: cannot execute
binary file: Exec format error

I saw the other post on this issue (but it is on a different
installation) and followed the suggestions but nothing changed the above
outcome. Did install MusicIP with a direct download and extracting
within Linux.
I'm fresh at Linux so I run out of options here. Anybody a suggestion
what could be the cause of this error?

I'm trying to get this working on an aarch64 based system. I've got to
the point I can run MusicMagicServer but it crashes;

Code:

# /data/musicip/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer
  MusicIP Server 1.8
  Copyright (C) 2006-2007 MusicIP Corporation
  Usage: MusicIPServer [options] start
  MusicIPServer stop
  Options:
  -help Show help message
  -verbose Log verbose info
  For more docs, see http://mixer.musicip.com/server

  # /data/musicip/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer start
  Starting server on port 10002
qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped
  Segmentation fault

  # qemu-i386 /data/musicip/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer start
  Starting server on port 10002
  Unsupported setsockopt level=0 optname=32
setsockopt - IP_MULTICAST_IF: Protocol not available
qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped
  Segmentation fault

Not sure what to try next. In case anyone's interested this is Ubunbtu
20.04 on and Odroid N2 and these are the commands I've used to get it to
this stage.

Code:

dpkg --add-architecture i386
  apt install qemu
  apt install qemu-user
  apt update
  wget
http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/glibc/libc6-i386_2.31-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb
  mkdir files
  dpkg-deb -x libc6-i386_2.31-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb files
  cd files/lib32
  mkdir /lib/i386
  cp * /lib/i386
  cd /lib
  ln -s i386/ld-linux.so.2 ld-linux.so.2
  ln -s i386/libpthread.so.0 libpthread.so.0
  ln -s i386/libc.so.6 libc.so.6

/var/lib/dpkg/arch has armhf and i386.

/etc/apt/sources.list has deb [arch=armhf]
http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free
rpi

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/i386.list has
deb [arch=i386] http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ stretch main contrib
non-free
deb [arch=i386] http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ stretch-updates main
contrib non-free
deb [arch=i386] http://security.debian.org/ stretch/updates main contrib
non-free

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspi.list has
deb [arch=armhf] http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ buster main

I got the server running with some outside help, but it crashes with a
segfault once it is invoked. So I suppose the libraries are still
broken. Either I'll do a fresh set-up the whole thing, or I'll do what
you said and purge the stuff and try again. If I run into problems, I'll
be back. Thank you for your support!

fyi, the "outside help" said:

I see two potential issues:
1) the older version caused an issue
2) something is wrong with your multiple architecture setups.

For 2) can you check if /var/lib/dpkg/arch contains arm and i386? and
that this is true:
You have to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file and every file in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d, adding [arch=armhf] behind each occurence of
deb

For 1) you can remove the old package by apt-get purge ".*:i386
