OK, thanks. It sounds like everything is working as expected then, with
the exception that I did not manage to authenticate via my phone.
Brilliant! Thanks Michael!

Yes, that's what's called "Connect" and which does not work with Spotty,
yet. 7.9.1 is required if you want seeking within a track.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation

2017-07-05 Thread Zoltan

Thanks Michael.

I am using the Odroid as a server.

I went ahead and have had some success. The basic installation steps
seemed to work without issue and Spotty is showing up in My Apps. I
wasn't able to authenticate via my Spotify app on my Android phone. It
wasn't showing any devices at all (not even the phone itself which was
playing at the time, though subsequently I installed the PC desktop
Spotify app and I do now see that on my phone).

Manual entry of credentials allowed me to run the Spotty app via the web
interface and I played something from my Spotify library on a Boom I
have in the room. So essentially I think it is working but I'm still
not able to see it as a device from my phone. Is that what is referred
to as 'Spotify Connect'? (Sorry, I'm still catching up on this!)

In case it's relevant I am running Max2Play/LMS 7.9.0 on the Odroid. Is
it worth trying a nightly 7.9.1?

Go ahead. I'd say it's pretty stable already. My kids are using it all
day long, every day. Well, at least when they're home anyway.

Thanks for the heads-up! The initial posting was badly outdated. I've
fixed that.

No, you no longer need mysb.com to use Spotify, if used with Spotty.

Are you using the Odroid as your server or player? Players should all
work. Server side - it depends. There was a positive report for the
Odroid XU4 (and many ARM based NAS devices FWIW):

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107418&p=887136#post887136

I have no idea how this transfers to your unit, though...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation

2017-07-05 Thread Zoltan

Hi,

I'm a long time SB user but completely new to Spotify, having just
succumbed to my kids' pleading and signed up to a family account.

Now that I am paying for it, I would like to see if I can get it working
with my SB system. There seems to be more than one way to do this and to
be honest I am a bit confused. Maybe I could ask a few questions...

1. Even though the title of the thread suggests bleeding edge, has this
implementation stabilised now to the extent that it might be recommended
to a new user? If not, what approach would be recommended and can
someone point me to simple up to date instructions?

Assuming I do proceed with the new approach...

2. Looking at the initial post, there is some interaction with MySB
implied. I have never to my knowledge used MySB (other than setting up
an account a long time ago) - I've always been a local server/local
music collection SB user. I'm guessing that there is some assumed
knowledge of setting up a Spotify account on MySB. Is there some
explanation of this somewhere? Is MySB needed whatever approach is taken
with Spotify?

3. Hardware compatibility was mentioned as a possible issue. The thread
has got to an overwhelming size now and I haven't read much of it so I
apologise if this is already answered but is it known whether an Odroid
U3 will work? (If not known, I am happy to try and report back.)

Thanks in advance for any help.

These mixes are not available through Spotify's API. See the discussion

1. this is indeed an arbitrarily chosen limitation: we can only get 50
tracks in one request. In order to get 1000 tracks, we'd have to launch
20 requests. This alone might get us blocked by Spotify. They don't give
hard numbers, but in some comment they mentioned that one would be
allowed to send about 25-30 requests per minute. As all users of Spotty
are sharing this quota, we have to be careful. If it only shows 198,
then very likely two of the tracks were marked as not available in your
country.

2. I don't see a Podcast menu in the official Spotify client either. Is
this a feature only available to some markets? I don't think they
support it in their documented API yet.

3. You can add tracks to a playlist using the track's context menu. But
that's it. Major playlist editing is better done in the Spotify
applications.

4. No. Spotty requires a Premium account.

As you can see from the log the reporting can be delayed. Did you check

Hi Michael, no I meant the "old" Spotify Protocol Handler.

I won't have access to the Desktop until Tuesday pm, I'll give the
command line a poke then:rolleyes:

When I was trying to enter my credentials on the web page it was hard to
enter the text into the boxes, the mouse cursor did not want to stay

Oh, now I see it, too. I thought this would happen when skipping tracks,

Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia!

A "Compilation" album is a much broader term than the narrow definition
here. Compilation is a process, not a thing, it is the act of compiling.
The compilation of musical tracks is the act of gathering them together
in one recording. The compilation of poems or short stories is the act
of gathering them together in one book.

A "best of" is "compiled" from an artists previous recordings. "Various
artists" albums are also "compiled" from those artists' previous
recordings, either to fit a genre, mood or other theme.

Heh... totally not how I deal with compilations. Wikipedia says:

Now we don't have the concept of anthologies...

But then the same article lists the Greatest Hits top of the list of
common types of compilations:

Not of much help. I'm confused.

I would define a compilation as an album "compiled" from tracks
previously released on other albums, or as singles, regardless of the
performer.

Cambridge English Dictionary:

"compile"
kəmˈpʌɪl
verb
produce (a list or book) by assembling information collected from other
sources.

Good to know!

I think I mis-interpreted my comment in the code. The albums list does
indeed come with an album_type value. But that value is not always what
people would expect. The classic Best Of vs. Various Artists issue: is a
Best Of considered a compilation? Or is a compilation an album with
various artists?... Spotify's interpretation is that a Best Of is a
compilation.

Here's the next update for you brave testers:

- split albums into albums/compilations/singles
- improve handling of credential changes
- show error 429 info, should it arise (rate limit exceeded)

I assume we still haven't seen the "429 - rate limit exceeded" error.
But if you see unexpected behavior, please check the Spotty settings.
There would be a message telling you about the 429 error (if it
happened). I'd be very much interested to get log snippets in that case.
As I plan to release this plugin on the main repository, soon, the
probability of issues due to too many API requests will rise.

I don't have an android device to test and confirm so I will leave it to
someone else to advise. The Daily mixes are static though. Since we
cannot delete the mixes from the LMS app you could just go to the
desktop app and add today's mix and delete yesterday's mix from there.
Not ideal but doable. I enjoy the daily mixes but I also enjoy the
Genre and Mood mixes which are periodically updated along with my
Discover Weekly and Release Radar. Between all of those playlists I am
usually covered whenever I feel like hearing something new.

I see...yup, it looks like they are just the static playlists. It is

The dynamic playlists work fine as I listen to my "release radar" and
"discover weekly" playlists all the time. I even have them set as
favorites so they are always just one click away in Ipeng. Honestly,
having favorites for my favorite radio station, Slacker stations,
Pandora Stations and Spotify playlists is what I love the most about the
Squeezebox ecosystem. Having to change apps just to change my most
listened to music like what is required by Chromecast, bluetooth or
airplay always feels so dumb to me. The squeezebox with a remote like
Ipeng still feels ahead of it's time when it comes to accessing my
music.

Daily mixes works too but for those you click "add to playlist" and then
"create" in the Spotify menu instead of "follow".

Once the daily mix shows up in your playlists in the Spotify app it
should show up under playlists in LMS

Other services are other services. IckStream comes with its own helper
application as does Spotty. They need to handle proxy settings or will
fail. IckStream obviously does. I'm not sure about Spotty.

I do not think that my problem is related to our proxy, because the
other services (IckStream, Deezer via mysb.com, Tunein) are working
fine. I have also configured our proxy in LMS but that did not help.
Also calling the binary in a shell with the http_proxy variable exported
was not successfull :-(.

Is there a possebility to get more debug output in the logs for Spotty
or would it help to increase the output for other logsetting in LMS?

BTW.: I've tried to configure Spotty with a clean install and also
copied the /var/lib/squeezeboxserver from another working installation
to my laptop, but both witout success, auth was always failling :-(.

I'd like to use LMS with Spotify on my Laptop at work, but when

also with the http proxy set it does not work.

Has anyone an idea how to debug the problem further or whats going wrong

BTW.: Other music services configured in LMS are working without a

But that would leave you with a static playlist, wouldn't it? The nice
thing about those "mixes" is that they seem to update constantly, or
even add new tracks as you play along. This behavior can't be replaced
by a static list.

HI RSJ,

With the caveat that I am not yet using Michael's new Spotty app (the
SPH app is still working just fine for me), it is possible to have
access to the recommendation playlists that Spotify generates for you in
LMS. You must first save the Spotify recommendation playlists to your
playlists in the official Spotify phone app. You may need to click on
their recommendation playlist and then hit "create" or "follow" in their
menu and it should show up in your playlists. Once you confirm it in
the playlists you should then be able to see it in your Spotify menu in
LMS under Playlists. I just added one of their generated "daily mixes"
and I can see it in my Spotify menu in Ipeng. Try it and let us know if
it works.

There's only one reason to still use XP: crucial software which wouldn't
run anywhere else. And then only run this peace of software on that
system. No one should spend any time to install new software on XP. If
Spotty doesn't run there. Oh well.

Update Windows. Or get a Raspberry Pi.

I understand but am trying to get this working on XP. LMS on XP is no
problem, works like before. Spotty working on XP would be nice. Got the
impression that it has to do with some options while making the
installer. See link on previous post. I do know that XP is eol I would

2017-06-25 Thread edwin2006

Lms 7.9.0 installed + 7.9.1-1498126617 + spotty 0.7.1. When starting lms
or trying to setup spotty I get spotty no valid win32 application.
Trying to run lms old win XP machine. Is there a way to solve this? (at
the moment not in to a fresh W10 or W7 install)
Does spotty of run on x64?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation

2017-06-25 Thread Stig Nygaard

I have recently migrated my setup to new server and player device, and
I'm happy to report that Spotty (also) works great on my Synology DS
716+ II (Intel 64) using pinkdot's LmsRepack and a Raspberry 3 based SB
Touch clone (RPi3, Max2Play, HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro, Squeezelite &
Jivelite).

Much appreciated you took the time for this, thanks :-)

I guess you and a lot of people prioritize Connect support first, but if
you find time to work on UI details, I would love to see the Album lists
of Artists cleaned up, so they only include albums (See for example
Radiohead). But at least it looks like albums are currently grouped in
top of the list.

Michael,

ver 0.7.1 runs just great :) Thanks for providing it.

However I am afraid to ask what's your progress of implementing full
spotify connect functionality (i.e. accessing SB devices as players thru
the original Spotify app)... :D

I thought I would check CPU usage with top under both settings.
With FLAC the process spotty-muslhf peaks at around 50% at the start of
a track then falls back to 5-8% and the process flac peaks at 7% then
falls back to around 1.7%.
With PCM the process spotty-muslhf peaks at around 37-40% then falls
back to 5-8%.
The peak CPU is reduced from around 57% to around 37% using PCM.

I did indeed change it to default to PCM on non-x86 hardware. Should
lower the CPU load (at the cost of bandwidth). But maybe it's premature
optimization, as a Pi esily can handle the transcodig.

Not sure where. In the file type settings PCM is not given as a file
type, only a steam format.
There is a "Spotty" file format with the following options:
Flac - Spottymushf / flac (currently disabled)
MP3 - spottymushf / lame
PCM - spottymushf

I will try selecting Spottymushf / flac next to the flac stream format
and see what happens.

I must admit to being totally perplexed by this settings page. I have
never managed to get to the bottom of what it all means or how changing
the settings changes the transcoding behavior of LMS. I did not find
the wiki much help on the subject.

Probably old news... but managed to install Spotty on my Synology DS214

A seamless change, currently using it with the official app and all
working well. I notice that the conversion is to PCM rather than FLAC.
Despite that, the excess bandwidth needed to play on my old Duet kit has
not caused a problem yet.

Let us hope Spotify don't manage to deprecate or break this one as

Feature request :) Is it possible to have the option in the context menu
to add the playing song to a specific Spotify playlist?

using that build for a few days already. But that only showed it didn't
break things, as I didn't encounter the problem you saw.
