OK, thanks. It sounds like everything is working as expected then, with the exception that I did not manage to authenticate via my phone. Brilliant! Thanks Michael! Yes, that's what's called "Connect" and which does not work with Spotty, yet. 7.9.1 is required if you want seeking within a track. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation
Thanks Michael. I am using the Odroid as a server. I went ahead and have had some success. The basic installation steps seemed to work without issue and Spotty is showing up in My Apps. I wasn't able to authenticate via my Spotify app on my Android phone. It wasn't showing any devices at all (not even the phone itself which was playing at the time, though subsequently I installed the PC desktop Spotify app and I do now see that on my phone). Manual entry of credentials allowed me to run the Spotty app via the web interface and I played something from my Spotify library on a Boom I have in the room. So essentially I think it is working but I'm still not able to see it as a device from my phone. Is that what is referred to as 'Spotify Connect'? (Sorry, I'm still catching up on this!) In case it's relevant I am running Max2Play/LMS 7.9.0 on the Odroid. Is it worth trying a nightly 7.9.1? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation
Hi, I'm a long time SB user but completely new to Spotify, having just succumbed to my kids' pleading and signed up to a family account. Now that I am paying for it, I would like to see if I can get it working with my SB system. There seems to be more than one way to do this and to be honest I am a bit confused. Maybe I could ask a few questions... 1. Even though the title of the thread suggests bleeding edge, has this implementation stabilised now to the extent that it might be recommended to a new user? If not, what approach would be recommended and can someone point me to simple up to date instructions? Assuming I do proceed with the new approach... 2. Looking at the initial post, there is some interaction with MySB implied. I have never to my knowledge used MySB (other than setting up an account a long time ago) - I've always been a local server/local music collection SB user. I'm guessing that there is some assumed knowledge of setting up a Spotify account on MySB. Is there some explanation of this somewhere? Is MySB needed whatever approach is taken with Spotify? 3. Hardware compatibility was mentioned as a possible issue. The thread has got to an overwhelming size now and I haven't read much of it so I apologise if this is already answered but is it known whether an Odroid U3 will work? (If not known, I am happy to try and report back.) Thanks in advance for any help. It there a way or is it not possible? > 4) I did not try it yet but is it also possible to run the Spotty plugin > with a Spotify free account? 1. this is indeed an arbitrarily chosen limitation: we can only get 50 tracks in one request. In order to get 1000 tracks, we'd have to launch 20 requests. This alone might get us blocked by Spotify. They don't give hard numbers, but in some comment they mentioned that one would be allowed to send about 25-30 requests per minute. As all users of Spotty are sharing this quota, we have to be careful. If it only shows 198, then very likely two of the tracks were marked as not available in your country. 2. I don't see a Podcast menu in the official Spotify client either. Is this a feature only available to some markets? I don't think they support it in their documented API yet. 3. You can add tracks to a playlist using the track's context menu. But that's it. Major playlist editing is better done in the Spotify applications. 4. No. Spotty requires a Premium account. Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia! A "Compilation" album is a much broader term than the narrow definition here. Compilation is a process, not a thing, it is the act of compiling. The compilation of musical tracks is the act of gathering them together in one recording. The compilation of poems or short stories is the act of gathering them together in one book. A "best of" is "compiled" from an artists previous recordings. "Various artists" albums are also "compiled" from those artists' previous recordings, either to fit a genre, mood or other theme. I don't have an android device to test and confirm so I will leave it to someone else to advise. The Daily mixes are static though. Since we cannot delete the mixes from the LMS app you could just go to the desktop app and add today's mix and delete yesterday's mix from there. Not ideal but doable. I enjoy the daily mixes but I also enjoy the Genre and Mood mixes which are periodically updated along with my Discover Weekly and Release Radar. The nice thing about those "mixes" is that they seem to update constantly, or even add new tracks as you play along. This behavior can't be replaced by a static list. There's only one reason to still use XP: crucial software which wouldn't run anywhere else. And then only run this peace of software on that system. No one should spend any time to install new software on XP. If Spotty doesn't run there. Oh well. Update Windows. Or get a Raspberry Pi. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation
Probably old news... but managed to install Spotty on my Synology DS214 NAS yesterday and haven't managed to make it go wrong yet. A seamless change, currently using it with the official app and all working well. I notice that the conversion is to PCM rather than FLAC. Despite that, the excess bandwidth needed to play on my old Duet kit has not caused a problem yet. Let us hope Spotify don't manage to deprecate or break this one as well!
