Nice patterns! thanks...

Also, don't forget convergence patterns. I have one that's the typical white
crosshatch/dots on a black background I can send for you to post. If needed,
I can make it a PDF...

Re: [PEDA] Monitor focusing.

2002-03-29 Thread Brian Guralnick

These patterns will be great for calibrating my home made, super
economy, 9 Million pixel video camera. I'll just get them printed on
3500dpi film at 22x34inch (movie poster size) as a target. Thanks a
million. I was originally going to draw out similar patters by hand in
Photoshop.

Re: [PEDA] Monitor focusing.

2002-03-29 Thread Brian Guralnick

I really interested,

My email is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In the past, I had problems with Acrobat test patterns, because of the
rendering originally didn't offer the finest 1:1 dot grid pattern from
corner to middle to corner. I'm hoping the situation has improved.

Originally, my 'Align_CHECfocus.png' , adjusted for that you get the
strongest moir pattern balanced throughout the screen was the best
solution, except, when calibrating 37 inch & 42 inch screens, you could not
make out the pattern from the distance created by the mirror...

Re: [PEDA] Monitor focusing.

2002-03-29 Thread Bryn Wolfe

Brian,

Now that I understand your motivation for the original post, maybe I can
offer further test patterns. I have scaleable resolution charts in pdf
format that, when viewed in full screen mode (in Acrobat Reader) allow
you to determine your monitor's finest resolution visually. Since the
graphics are determined through an equation instead of a bitmap, it
scales to any screen resolution. And they don't hurt your eyes like the
ones you were promoting (ouch, I still have a headache).

If you're interested, I can email them.

Bryn

Re: [PEDA] Monitor focusing.

2002-03-28 Thread Brian Guralnick

A few months ago, the issue came up with aging CRT monitors, & new
monitors which were out of focus. For those of us with experience, we would
open up our monitors & adjust the focus controls on the HV Flyback picture
tube power supply. When this issue came up, I offered my original focusing
images which consisted of the finest possible checker board B&W pattern.

Now, unless your monitor has a fussy picture & you are willing to void
the warranty & risk exposure to dangerous electrical voltages, I do not
recommend playing with the focus.

If you know what you are doing, just view the tiled image on your
monitor, at 1 standard video mode lower than the listed resolution your
monitor was designed for, & calibrate the focus. If your screen is
currently fuzzy, you will probably get a vast improvement.

I also recommend using my original checkerboard pattern in conjunction
with this new one. The older focus files are still on my FTP site.

Give yourself a headache with them. ;)

I'm still dizzy.

Vastly improved, monitor focusing test pattern. Make sure when using, that
the pattern is set to 100%, or 1:1 scale.

Just copy this link location into your internet explorer address bar:
ftp://ftp.point-lab.com/quartus/Public/ProtelUsers/

Take these 2 files:
FocusPattern3.png - 5KB
FocusPattern3tiled.png - 135KB
