I haven't had much difficulty with including PDFs made
directly from OpenOffice, but one trick that may work
is to export as EPS and convert to PDF.

BTW, can you view pic.pdf directly in Adobe Acrobat Reader?

thanks for all your help and replies,
I just found a way to compile the tex file along with the graphics included
in it
the problem was the package usage, we need to give

\usepackage[pdftex]{color,graphicx}

ok,.. actually i just wanted to get the few pictures into my report and i

tried every possible way(eps, pdf, png, tiff) to include the picture, but
dint succeed... is it really possible to get the picture(possibly a colored
one) into the tex file and get the pdf out of it?
when i tried with pdf format of the picture i got an error msg like this

! latex error: cannot determine the size of graphic in pic.pdf (no
Boundingbox)

and the pic.pdf i created using openoffice draw by exporting to pdf format
!!!

Judging from the screenshots that you showed, you are
trying to create a PDF using pdfLaTeX rather than just
LaTeX. With LaTeX, graphics should be in EPS format,
but with pdfLaTeX, the graphics formats are PDF, PNG,
and TIFF.

You should be able to convert from EPS to PDF using
the epstopdf utility. Unfortunately, that's a
command-line utility, and I don't if there is a
graphical front end for it.

[protext] embedding a picture(*.eps)

hello,... I am not able to embed a picture in my latex file (even though the
file is of eps format).I am attaching the screen shots so that it might be
of help by the way the path is correct and theres absolutely no problem with
the encapsulated picture file(i mean i get no error when i open it with GS
view).This is not a bug i believe! I have attached the snapshots of my
screen,

ok I think i have found out the problem,... its because i dont have the
graphicx package can anybody tell me how to install the graphicx package in
windows since its in *.tar.bz2 format the miktex package repository is not
able to identify the file,...
