Re: [psas-airframe] LV3.1 eNSR system
Hi Marie and everyone, > I read through the notes from the meeting though, and I noticed that the > eNSR system was not a part of any discussion. I'm sure everyone is aware > that the eNSR system is completely toast, so I am wondering what the > plan is for rebuilding it? Like Georges said, we just glossed over it because you weren't there . That said, there are some COTS options we could use, and we could not put the drogue in the nose cone, that would suck but allow us to test the airframe without an improved eNSR. I think we all agree we want a fully designed and integrated "eNSR v2" for LV3.1, but I think we all understand that's a huge project and might not be ready by fall 2018. Instead, that might be an upgrade to LV3.2 summer 2019 when you guys are done with it. We'll discuss more tomorrow night. -- ------- Andrew Greenberg Electrical and Computer Engineering Portland State University http://www.ece.pdx.edu/ a...@ece.pdx.edu C: 503.708.7711 --- ___ psas-airframe mailing list psas-airframe@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-airframe
[psas-airframe] "Portland Model Engineers" machining club
Hi everyone! I met Vince from Vernier System who attends the "Portland Model Engineers" club. Once a month, a bunch of hobby machinist folks meet to show off what they've machined and usually do a tour. This month -- this Saturday 1/13 -- it's at PCC Sylvania. I think this might be an incredible resource for us for getting parts made. I'd go myself, but I'm out of town this weekend. Can someone show up for this? And see if anyone is interested in helping out? Here's the announcement: When:January 13, 2018 1PM Where: PCC Shop - Sylvania Campus 12000 SW 49th Ave. Portland, OR 97219 Happy New Year Our January meeting will be in the machine shop at the Sylvania campus of Portland Community College. Thanks to Don Birkley for setting this up. Plagiarizing information he sent me: Here is a link to a campus info page including a link to a map https://www.pcc.edu/about/locations/sylvania/ Parking permits are not required on Saturday for the general student parking area. All other reserved areas (faculty/staff, loading, college vehicles only, etc.) are still enforced. The shop is in room AM-113 In the lower level of the automotive/machining building. --- Andrew -- ------- Andrew Greenberg Electrical and Computer Engineering Portland State University http://www.ece.pdx.edu/ a...@ece.pdx.edu C: 503.708.7711 --- ___ psas-airframe mailing list psas-airframe@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-airframe
[psas-airframe] Changes to the new 360 module
Hey Rob, and whoever else is working on the new 360 module! Can we haz a battery pack? The Runcams have a "working power" of 3.25 W each, so our 6 camera pack has a power draw of a whopping 20 W. That's like more than OreSat, but that's fine, we don't even care. We'll need at least 20 W * 1 hour = 20 Wh pack. I suggest a 4S1P pack, so that's a nominal 14.4 V, so that's a pack of at least 1.5 Ah. This assumes we can turn this thing on and off remotely. If we can't do that, then we'll need more like 6 hours of video, which raises the pack to 9 Ah which is getting to be a giant pack. So let's make it remotely operable, which means we need some electronics on board, which is fine. Let's be sure to chat on Tuesday of next week! [psas-airframe] Who has the LV2 shock cord?
Hi everyone! We're missing the shock cord that connected the drogue parachute to the airframe of LV2. It was bright yellow springy webbing. Did someone borrow it? maybe for a Level 3 rocket? Re: [psas-airframe] Fwd: Re: Boeing donation update
Hi! Yeah, I'd like an ETA too please. Here's my suggestion for logistics: drive the step van behind the engineering building like we did with the trailer for Launch 12. This means driving west on Lincoln Ave, turning right into the pedestrian trail behind CH2M Hill, removing the barriers (they usually aren't locked), and driving behind the EB. We'll unload to... I don't know where. A full step van?! That's a lot of stuff. I'd say the Composites Lab for right now, then we'll deal with moving it later. Maybe we can get access to a storage room somehow. When the stepvan is aknown distance from campus, please email psas-t...@psas.pdx.edu and ask people to meet you behind the EB to help unload! Then we'll move off to the Bio building to unload the rest into freezers. Re: [psas-airframe] Testing
Hi Wilson! Anyone know what's up with the email archive for this list? The most recent archive is from January 2008... Wow! No, I don't know why it hasn't been archiving. I'll bug Joe, and we'll see if we can reconstruct the archives. Although this list isn't used very much (compared to the avionics list), so there won't be a lot of archives. This is a good list to discuss the current composite airframe, recovery systems, RCS, etc (hint hint). Re: [psas-airframe] New Cesaroni Motor Mounting
Perhaps that, combined with the countersunk screws, and we could avoid modifying the avionics pieces... The avionics module is bolted to the aeroshell at the bottom D blocks, and the holes for those countersunk bolts are *right* below the patch antennas so they can't be raised up. That said, we could add another set of D blocks and lift that bottom plate up, but Dave's right, it's going to get *really* tight in there. Anything we can do to avoid mucking with the avionics space would be great. Re: [psas-airframe] Flight Computer Mounting
Hello Airframe Team, attached are a few snapshots of the first proposed mounting technique for the new PC-104 flight computer stack... Sweet! I love it! Constraints: It doesn't look like there's room for a fourth PCB on that stack. Is that true? If not, could we add that possibility? It might turn out to be very, very convenient to have a FC breakout board as a fourth board. Also, how far apart is the heatsink from the C channel? Can we arrange for it to be exactly one thickness of thermal interface material (TIM)? -There is no support on the top edges of the PCB. We could add foam or other material to help handle upward loads (i.e. during recovery and hitting the ground. However, this also means that if the battery box pushes downward, those forces will be passed thru the PCB's, not desirable. .. which is why I wouldn't put anything up there. I bet we're OK, unless we lawn dart, but we shouldn't design for that. There's also the question of how much of a moment can we apply to those 0.6 standoffs, noting that they are 4-40 threaded. Can we directly answer this question using SolidWorks coolness? [psas-airframe] Battery box timeline
Hi Ben, Just a heads up: I'm mostly done with the schematic, and I'll need several days on the board, but I hope to be done with the battery board by the end of this week. That means that we really ought to be done with the battery box, too, so I can have final dimensions for the board by, say, Friday? I'm not going to be at the Tuesday meeting because we're going to be putting together the FC carrier PCB. Maybe we could get together some other time - Wednesday evening? - to do the final coordination. Alternatively, you could come to the cabin Tuesday evening and we could try and fit it in then, too. Depends on your finals schedule :) Andrew -- --- Andrew Greenberg Portland State Aerospace Society (http://psas.pdx.edu/) and...@psas.pdx.edu P: 503.788.1343 C: 503.708.7711 --- ___ psas-airframe mailing list psas-airframe@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-airframe
