Ok,
Not quite sure what you are looking for, but If I have your gist.
I have done some work on a OSM Dataset for Ireland, both styled in QGIS
and in Geoserver.
The dataset is stored as a PostGIS database and served on Geoserver. So
I would have examples of how I replicated styling on both.
I

Hi Richard,
FYI:
Below is a summary of what I found to be working and not when installing
QGIS in Xubuntu trusty.
WORKING
1. Removing all the qgis.org repositories from sources.list and just
leaving the ubuntugis-unstable PPA. -> Installs QGIS 2.14.3 (from unstable
PPA)
2. Using the ubuntugis-nightly-release
Hello all,
Ok, I have been looking at this for a while, and I think I have it
nailed down pretty well.
There has been some issues with using QGIS SLD's in Geoserver.
The following should enable you to utilise the styling power of QGIS and
make it compatible with Geoserver
In the main, this
You can also set it system wide:
http://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-addedit-environment-variables-in-windows-7
if you only need the connection in QGIS you can easily go with adjusting
qgis.bat but if you also would like to access the DB from other programs
it's a good idea to set it on system
Thanks a lot, worked great! Great solution for us to just change the qgis.bat
after installation.

Maybe it helps to add the declaration of that environment variable to the
qgis.bat startup?

Hi all,
something good to know when creating a PostGIS connection in QGIS using a
service defined in .pg_service.conf:
While pgAdmin reads the conf-file not taking care the EOL-setting (end of
line), QGIS can only read conf-files saved with UNIX-EOL-setting (LF only; e.g.
