Label placement took a lot of time and efforts in the past and this is the
outcome.
It's true, there is no real need for it while on screen, but it could be
very useful in Layout. The problem is similar to generalisation, you need
proper data to support label placement. Losing the relationship
Specialists may suggest a more focused approach, but you can use several
tools and approaches.
You can start with the PDAL library (pdal.io), use the tools in GDAL (grid
tools) or prepare a workflow using GRASS algorithms in Processing.

I suggest to provide the same interface as version 2 calling this "default
page size" and explaining that every page could get a different size,
right-clicking on the page. Most users make one-page maps and they would
never need this otherwise vital feature.

Ciao Andrea,
by default Postgresql views are read only. Even the simplest view made in

Please read the chapter on the Rule System in the Postgresql
Hello Enrico,
QGIS implements an older arrangement from the first version of Spatialite.
The views share metadata with tables in geometry_columns.
I think that QGIS should use the proper metadata table as well. It's time
to do it as Spatialite is at version 4 and the views_geometry_columns comes
Hello,
since Larry wrote he was going to update the OsGeo4Mac homebrew "tap",
things have become more difficult; the homebrew-core formula for

Ciao Luca,
if you mean cutting the stream and manually assigning a width to every arc,
well, it's not the right procedure anyway, but if you deal with a network
as a network you should allow waterflow grow for other reasons besides
going downhill. Every node brings affluents so more water becomes
Hello Guido and list,
there are several ways to reduce this huge GeoJson file:
* simplify tracks;
* reduce precision (less decimals);
* get rid of styling for every element.
One of the solution used to simplify styling, putting styling information
in every feature, consume memory and suggests that
Hello Marilena,

Hello Geoff,
the first thing to check is having the right tools in place, this also
helps you to get your ECW file converted.
By the command line, try using GDAL.

The correspondence is not always true, several not-free formats are writable
by OGR, but, as a precaution, they are not editable in QGIS. This is the
case for files that are able to style features: MapInfo, Intergraph DGNs,
etc. could be writable asking the user losing stylesif he would be
Hello Priscilla,
there is a plugin that will enable you to open MapInfo .wor files in QGIS.
MapInfo styles are a double faced beast, features could be styled inside
the .tab file, but themes are added in the wor(kspace). Both are well
documented, OGR (a part of GDAL -- www.gdal.org -- which is the
Saving default styles in database is a wonderful solution for coworkers,
but a potential conflict may arise with styles saved in projects.
This is the intended behaviour: if I want to override style settings for a

Hello Walt,
this issue is somehow more general, even if farming is a special case.
You are indeed asking two questions:
1. is a geodabase worth using in my daily work?
2. is a dbms (server) what I need?
I think it's definitely useful to deal with a database that merges
geographic objects and other
Hello Darren, Maxim and List,
I use the georeferencer extensively for historical maps and I
appreciate very much the new plugin.
I also think this mail exchange is very useful; I would ask even more
for the georeferencer to be great for historical maps.
To use them in historical GIS, we try to
Hello,
the matter shifted someway on development. About speed, there is
obviously a big opportunity to make QGis faster; it's not only a
matter of rough performance but a matter of project strategies. If you
want a faster startup usig lots of raster files, just use a virtual
raster to see it
Hello,
Spatialite databases do not seem to be recognized, at least on my

Is this only an issue with my installation or
