Thank you for the follow up, Nicolas,

I’ll spend a little more time on learning to insert that ID column. I tried the
Convert to Geopackage and then to TAB files, but that was not satisfactory. The
ID column was still missing

Hi,
To my knowledge, the tab file does not need a FID column to work. I may be
wrong but a geopackage must have a FID column. I am sure you could create that
field afterwards in the model or create a geopackage and then a tab file.

I am trying to use the Model Designer to automate the creation of Tab files
from SQL Database Tables.

I am using GDAL – Vector Conversion – Convert format

The resulting Tab file is missing the Primary Key field.

If use that same algorithm to export to a Geopackage, the PK is there.

I know that I can right click the SQL Table and select Export. That Tab file
contains the PK. I need to export 30 tables so am looking for some automation.

Why does the algorithm produce a table without the key field?

Sounds like your database table has a not-null constraint on this MI_PRINX
attribute, which QGIS is detecting. That's what the orange x represents -- the
attribute value isn't valid for the layer.

[Qgis-user] Identifier Tool in QGIS 3.22 - more documentation?

2022-02-21 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,

I'm struggling a little with some behaviour changes when I edit in the Pop-up
box using the Identifier Tool in QGIS 3.22.

I have read the information at
https://docs.qgis.org/3.22/en/docs/user_manual/introduction/general_tools.html#identify
but that doesn't answer my questions.

Is there anywhere else I can read to find out more? Specifically, I want to
know what has changed in regard to editing in the pop-up box.

[Qgis-user] Index attribute no longer updated automatically

2022-02-20 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,

Another QGIS 3.22.3 question.

I have layers that come from a MSSQL database. Those tables were loaded into
SQL using Easy Loader (I know, shh!) so they have the MI_PRINX attribute.
In past versions of QGIS, this MI_PRINX attribute was updated automatically
when a new feature is saved in a layer. That has stopped in 3.22.

In my settings when a new feature is created, the default behaviour of Suppress
attribute from pop-up after feature creation is not ticked, so a new feature
created does open a pop-up box. The attribute for MI_PRINX is Orange and there
is a small orange x on the right hand side.
If I turn that off (put a tick in the box to suppress the pop-up) then the
feature is created and the MI_PRINX value is updated. So the frustrating
behaviour only happens with the pop-up box. But that means that I have to open
the attribute table, find the feature etc.

Is there a way to return the 'old' behaviour to the pop-up box?

Yes, what you describe is what has happened in the past. A lot of our data is

Hi Johanna,

(At least for me) that depends what I'm dropping.

If it's a file type with a single geometry it goes straight in.
For example shp or a zip file with a single shape file inside

If it's a file type with multiple geometries or a container with multiple
possibilities then you'll get asked.
For example GPX or zip file with shape and explanatory pdf inside (because
there isn't an obvious way of telling if the pdf is georeferenced and you might
then want to load it).

Does that help?

Ramon.

Hi Johanna -

I suspect, you have some symbology issues with the layer/table from DB1

Try to change the symbology from "whatever it is now" to a "Single symbol" for
the DB1 layer and check if your missing objects appear

[Qgis-user] Visibility of items in SQL Database

2021-06-08 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,
I have a situation where I have two SQL databases and I have to move data from
one to the other. Always the same direction from DB1 to DB2
My issue is that the items show in some tables in DB1 but do not display in
QGIS.

I can select from the table, but I can't select items on the QGIS canvas
I can cut and paste from DB1 to DB2 and the items display in DB2.
I can manually create an item in an affected table in DB1 and it will display.
When I hover with my Add [polygon/line/point] tool, the square to show where
the vertices (for snapping) are displayed as I move my cursor over them.
When I run the Validate Geometry tool, the results are that I have valid
geometry and those layers are displayed.
In SQL server manager I can see the spatial results for those tables in DB1.
Projections are the same for each DB
There are no Layer Scale Visibility settings in play for either DB
It does not affect all tables in DB1.

Can anyone suggest some further troubleshooting strategies?

Hi Loic,

Thanks for your answer. I saw a brief description of that as a possibility, but
when I tried, it looked quite complicated by using x and y coordinates.
I'll have another look

Hi,

You can set the distance in the advanced digitzing panel [1]. All shape
digitizing tools can be used in combination with this panel.

2020-05-06 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi Sunil,

We capture asset data for a local council. There are 27 tables in the database
representing each asset category. We have times when the demand for the import
is higher eg at the end of the calendar year and at the end of the financial
year. When it is busy, we can be adding 2-3000 assets per week. Some of the
tables already contain 45 000+ assets.

We have no alternatives to software. IT won’t allow it.

And I’m growing old
waiting for things to happen.

When we were all in the office, we connected through the work network to the
databases in the cloud and
suffered some issues with delay that may be caused by internet speed. Now that
we are all working from
home, we have the added complexity
of connecting to our home Wi-Fi then a VPN to the office before we then go out
to the cloud.

But now the bottom line is that no more than one user at a time can edit the
tables. Responses are
painfully slow and by mid-afternoon, QGIS is completely unresponsive.

Users love to blame the software. That’s what they are interacting with, but I
don’t believe that it is
all QGIS’ problem. I’d prefer to blame a database that appears to not respond
well to a multi user
environment.

Does anyone have any ideas, or strategies, to troubleshoot?

Have you tried restarting QGIS when you hit this slowness issue? If so, do you

Yes, there is a chance that a plugin which is disabled but still installed
**could** cause an issue (although unlikely). A clean profile would be the
easiest way to test this, and QGIS makes it easy to flick between profiles so
you can quickly switch back to your regular profile after testing.

Hi Nyall,

I've had good support ideas from you before so I knew that I untick all plugins
before I asked for more assistance. Sadly, it has not made any difference. Did
you mean to uninstall them all? I could try that.

And, to clarify, each user has their own machine, their own installation of

with all the tables. It does look like a network or database issue as I thought.

Thank you.

Unless you do have multiple users sharing a single machine (e.g. via remote
desktop or similar), then this is almost certainly a database or network
issue*. If everyone is running distinct QGIS sessions on different machines
then it's highly unlikely that you'd also see the same issues arise at the same
time of day.

* Unless it's a plugin related issue. I'm aware of some plugins which are badly

So possibly if you ALL had a bad plugin installed and ALL started a fresh QGIS
session at the start of the day then you may experience simultaneous slow downs
in the afternoon. The fix for this would be starting a clean profile with no
plugins installed and testing.

2020-05-05 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.
I don’t have any transparency on the config of our network so I can’t answer
that. It is possible that my frustration peaks in the afternoon and it is
possible that is a red herring.

Each user has a similar project that contains tables in a SQL database. We need
to add and edit items in these tables but struggle when more than one person is
editing in the same table.

What I do know is that the refresh – or my ability to edit and save data - in
the attribute table slows down when multiple users are editing the same table.
And I know that this behaviour has become worse now that we are all working
from home and have the added ‘hops’ in the network created by our home Wi-Fi
and VPN.

Our workaround today will be to try to make sure that only one person is in a
particular table at a time.

Johanna, I'm struggling to understand your configuration here.

Are you working via some kind of remote desktop software? It sounds like it.

What is your theory as to why response time is worse in the afternoon? Is your
connection to your office being overloaded? Is your office's connection to the
cloud database also being overloaded? Do your IT support people have any
thoughts on why response is worse in the afternoon?

The reason I'm keying on this is that one possibility is that your network
infrastructure is slightly insufficient for the morning load and completely
insufficient for the afternoon load.

On the contrary, if your database is starved of resources, why is it worse now
than when you were working from the office? Again your IT people should be able
to look at log info or otherwise instrument your server to find out if it's the
problem (having suggested this I admit I wouldn't use SQL Server and know
nothing about tuning it).

Can you run a different configuration, say with QGIS on your home computer and
some kind of database proxy in your office, or even a direct connection to the
cloud database (assuming I've guessed your configuration correctly)?

Users love to blame the software. That’s what they are interacting with, but I
don’t believe that it is all QGIS’ problem. I’d prefer to blame a database that
appears to not respond well to a multi user environment.

I'd be inclined to blame the network first, since that's what it sounds like
has changed.

[Qgis-user] MS SQL Server, multi users and QGIS v3+

2020-05-05 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,

I have a situation where there are three of us using QGIS v3.4 connecting to a
Microsoft 2016 SQL Server to add and edit items to tables in the same database
at the same time. And I'm growing old waiting for things to happen.

When we were all in the office, we connected through the work network to the
databases in the cloud and suffered some issues with delay that may be caused
by internet speed. Now that we are all working from home, we have the added
complexity of connecting to our home Wi-Fi then a VPN to the office before we
then go out to the cloud.

But now the bottom line is that no more than one user at a time can edit the
tables. Responses are painfully slow and by mid-afternoon, QGIS is completely
unresponsive.

Users love to blame the software. That's what they are interacting with, but I
don't believe that it is all QGIS' problem. I'd prefer to blame a database that
appears to not respond well to a multi user environment.

Does anyone have any ideas, or strategies, to troubleshoot?

Re: [Qgis-user] Export to DXF question

2019-02-24 Thread Johanna Botman
Thanks for the prompt reply Nyall,

I have discovered that the scale option is also a factor. The default was
1:1000 or something like that. When I changed it to 1:500 my export is
looking much better.
I have still to test more, so I will test with the Mtext option unchecked as
well. I'll answer my question on Stack Exchange when I have worked it out.

Johanna Botman
Asset & GIS Officer | Melton City Council

Have you checked whether changing the output scale helps here? There's probably
label collisions preventing the other parcels being labelled.
Alternatively you could set "show all labels" for the parcel layer to force all
labels to be shown, even if they overlap.

> When I open the DXF in AutoCAD I can select those 30 labels but cannot change
> the size of the font.

That's likely because you're using the mtext option. Try unchecking that
setting.

[Qgis-user] Export to DXF question

2019-02-24 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,

I am trying to use the Export to DXF function in QGIS 3.2 without satisfaction.

The layer that I want to export is a layer of polygons representing a Property
layer. I want to export the House number as a label associated with each
polygon. I tick the Export with Mtext box - after making sure that my layer is
labelled with the attribute that I want. I select that I want my layer
symbology and I choose my required attribute from the Output Layer Attribute.

Only 30 of the 300 or so labels are exported to the DXF file. When I open the
DXF in AutoCAD I can select those 30 labels but cannot change the size of the
font.

What do I need to do to make sure that I have all the labels for my layer?

I asked the question on GIS Stack Exchange last week without much luck in
obtaining an answer.

[Qgis-user] Which layers are locked in Print Composer?

2018-07-23 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,

How can I find out which layers I have locked for a map in Print Composer?

I have a project that has three composer maps - each showing a variation of the
data sets in the project. I have locked the layers for each map.

When I come back to the project and want to work on Composer 1, for instance,
is there a way that I can find out which layers I have on that map? The layers
list won't necessarily tell me because I may have switched layers on and off
for Composer 2 or 3.

I want to know so that I can easily find which layers to edit when my client
wants symbology changes for one composer and not the other two. Does that make
sense?

Hi,

I have a layer of suburbs and I style them using the Categorise function so
that they are all different colours. There are 43 of them.
By default they are then all selected to show on my canvas.

Is there a way that I can deselect them all at once and then reselect them all?
I can only see that I have to click each check box (43 times).

Re: [Qgis-user] Mini dump when adding SQL layers QGIS 2.18.8

2017-06-25 Thread Johanna Botman
Thanks Martin, for getting back to me.

I have isolated that it this behaviour occurs when I load a layer from the
browser window. If I add it through the Layer | Add New Layer menu items I
don't have a problem. So that confirms what you are saying.
A shame, I like being able to drag and drop layers onto my projects. I'll have
to investigate updating to the latest version.

Hi Johanna,
2.18.8 was quickly replaced by 2.18.9 I think it had some issues - I don't know
if any of them relate to your problem.

Are you adding the layers from the browser window or the add layer menu?

Are you using a named ODBC DSN or putting the SQL Server Host details directly
into QGIS? I had mini dumps when I was using named ODBC connections.

I'm afraid the only thing I can suggest, if you haven't already tried, is to
try switching the way you are connecting and adding the layers.

Cheers,
Martin.

[Qgis-user] Fail to commit changes to SQL database

2016-09-13 Thread Johanna Botman

I'm working on a [road] line layer and changing the geometry so that it
matches the aerial image. I can make some changes and save them, but then
suddenly I can't save anymore changes.
In the yellow line at the top of the canvas it says Commit Errors: Could
not commit changes to layer [road]. When I click the 'show more' it simply
says 'Errors: ERROR: [x] geometries not changed'

I can shut QGIS down and restart it. Then I still cannot change that last
geometry that caused the issue, but I can change others until I get that
message again. I have rebooted my machine and I made a little more progress
but still come up against the error.

My research in stack exchange yielded nothing in relation to SQL server,
but I asked our IT to have a look at the logs anyway. They said there was
nothing in the SQL logs either.

I am using QGIS 2.14.4 and this particular table is on a SQL server.

Any ideas?

Re: [Qgis-user] Mini dump when using the QGIS Vector Layer Histogram algorithm

2016-08-22 Thread Johanna Botman

I am using the Tool box to find QGIS Geoalgorithms |Vector Layer Histogram

I have the PVTdataset as the Input Layer,
I select Cadmium as the attribute (although I would like to see zinc, but
that is not one of the options that is available)
I have 20 bins
I save the html file to a local directory.

As I write these steps I am using my PC at work and it crashes too.

It is using QGIS 2.14.4 on Windows 7. My home machine is QGIS 2.16.1 on Win
10. Both 64 bit.

[Qgis-user] Mini dump when using the QGIS Vector Layer Histogram algorithm

2016-08-20 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi All,

I'm having a frustrating afternoon. I've had more mini dumps than I've had
hot coffees.

I have a project with only two layers. One a point layer and one a line
layer. I want to make a histogram for one of the attributes in the point
layer and QGIS 2.16.1 crashes on me.

This is part of an assignment where I am to use a number of different
software applications to produce a result and assess the software (as well
as the result). These crashes are not looking good for QGIS.

  Hi Johanna,

Orfeo Toolbox (photogrammetry software) is quite specialized and is not
part of the standard QGIS distribution. I also have no experience with it
  and can't help.

GRASS is different - it's a general purpose GIS and should work well with
QGIS. What are you struggling with regarding GRASS?

  -

The other question is: are you (I mean your Windows user account) a
long-time QGIS user who upgraded from older versions? If yes, it can mean
that some "out-of-the-box" settings don't apply, since you already have
settings and they won't get overwritten (people wouldn't like that). So
to judge things, it may be interesting to try from a new Windows user
account and test if things work fine for a new and clean user account.
You could then compare the settings and copy them over to the production
user who upgraded from older QGIS.

[Qgis-user] Tab order in dialogue boxes

Hi All,

I'm a person who likes using the keyboard as much as possible. I resent
having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse to fill in a
dialogue box. Doing that slows me down.

Is it possible to establish some sort of convention in QGIS that sets a
logical tab order for people like me?

[Qgis-user] What colour settings can I control when I export to PDF?

2016-05-30 Thread Johanna Botman

Hi,

I've produced a map that now needs to be commercially printed. I sent them
a PDF exported from QGIS 2.14.1.

The proof the printer has supplied has the black (for street names) REALLY
dark and bold. They tell me that it is because the export has converted my
RGB values to CMYK and that therefore they are combining four colours to
make black and it is then 'bold'.

Is there anything I can do about this when I choose my colour, or when I
export my PDF? (Or do we sack the printer?)

Re: [Qgis-user] Label display at disappearing at different resolution

2016-04-26 Thread Johanna Botman
Chris,

For what it's worth, I am using QGIS 2.14.1 on Win 7 with 12Gb of RAM.

I was able to get myself out of trouble by making the map A2, changing the
font to map units, and then printing my map at A3.

[Qgis-user] Label display at disappearing at different resolution

2016-04-25 Thread Johanna Botman

I'm making an A3 size map of my town where every street needs to be
labelled. And I need to output to a vector PDF.

I have 'Show all labels for this layer (including colliding labels)' ticked
I do not have 'Discourage labels from covering features' ticked.

I have a rule for font size that says if a street is shorter than 100m then
use a smaller font size. This helped to get a lot of smaller labels on the
map, but does not get everything.

When I zoom in on my canvas, I can see the labels, but when I zoom back to
see the whole map, some of the labels disappear. They don't all appear on
the PDF either - but the ones that do not appear aren't always the same as
the ones that don't show on my canvas.

Can someone suggest something that I can do (aside from telling the client
that their request is unrealistic?)

[Qgis-user] GPS tracking for long distance hike

2016-02-20 Thread Johanna Botman
Hi,

I have volunteered to make maps for a 600km walk and am looking for some
guidance in my research to find the best method for recording the track.

I'm not personally doing the walk. So I need to have something reliable,
long lasting, produce a gpx file and easy to use for a novice. At this
point, I don't know what facilities may be available for recharging
batteries. I don't want anything with a subscription or that relies on a sim
card.

Any suggestions, or pointers to other projects that had similar
requirements?

Johanna

QConsolidate plugin is marked  as experimental, so you have to check the
checkbox that says show also experimental plugins in the settings of the
plugin installer in order to see and install the plugin.

[Qgis-user] Counting instances of points and representing totals

2015-09-29 Thread Johanna Botman

Hi,

I'm having trouble working out what should be a simple problem.

I have data that lists all the traffic accidents in our local area. Each
accident has a unique ID, but there can be many accidents at the one
location.

I want to show the accumulated accident numbers using a graduated symbol
size based on the count of accidents at that one spot. Underdark's
excellent blog post describes how to use the new features in QGIS 2.10 -
using a range from a single attribute. What I want QGIS to do is to add up
the incidents for a specific location.

My brain hurts and I can't think how to do this. Can someone help?

Re: [Qgis-user] Loading issues with project file in QGIS 2.4 (64 bit)

2015-07-14 Thread Johanna Botman

Thanks for the quick response Nathan,

I'm not sure if you are familiar with Dial Before You Dig. When a request
is made for information about the underground assets in a particular area,
our council is one of the organisations that are asked to respond. That
request is emailed to us and contains a .gml file with the specified
location details.

In order to speed up the processing at our end, I set up a project file
that accepts this gml file, we zoom to the layer, align that with the
canvas and produce the pdf file that goes back to the initial requestor.

It worked fine for at least the last year. The layers in the project file
are not large. The largest is 13Mb, the smallest is a few kilobytes. There
are 17 layers in the project. I have had a request to put aerial imagery
under the maps, but have resisted that because of the size of the images.

What else do you need to know?

[Qgis-user] Loading issues with project file in QGIS 2.4 (64 bit)

2015-07-14 Thread Johanna Botman

One of my users is having *fun and games* with a project file which hangs
and is unresponsive.

This project is one where the user drags and drops a .gml file onto the
canvas to produce a map of a specific area. I don't want to update her to
a later version because 2.4 is the last version to automatically update the
gml file to the legend. The Auto Update function in later versions updates
all the layers and that is one step too far for this user.

When my user opens the file, according to IT, it sits for a while
allocating memory and then finally opens the layers that are needed. But
once the map has been produced, the original gml file removed and another
added for the second map, QGIS becomes Not Responding. I blame the
network, but IT tell me it is the nature of open source software.

Does anyone else have similar experiences or suggestions?

Re: [Qgis-user] Local Government for QGIS

2015-06-11 Thread Johanna Botman

I, too, work for local government - in New South Wales (Australia).

We were an exclusively MapInfo shop until I came along. Not that I can
claim the move to QGIS ... but adding me to the staff meant that the
opportunity was there to explore open source software and how it would fit
into Council's IT and GIS.

There are hiccups, of course, but I find QGIS to be as robust as MapInfo,
sometimes better and sometimes not as good. I think, though, that this can
be said of any software comparisons.

Our reasons for changing were as the OP described - an unwillingness to be
locked into proprietary formats and expensive licensing agreements. We may
not be on QGIS forever, either. We are open minded enough to examine the
alternatives as they present themselves and take advantage of opportunities
as they arise.

While we are being asked to do more with less resources, we see this as the
most appropriate course at this time.

We have the support of consultants who know and understand QGIS and who are
partners with enterprises who fund and develop changes and improvements
with QGIS. And personally, I have found the help and support available
through this mail list to be invaluable. Through this mail list I have been
able to deal directly with the developer of a particular component of QGIS
and had it fixed in the nightly build.

I'm trying to Select By Location, copy the selection and paste as a new

points are highlighted, but when I look at the new layer, there are no
points. The attribute headings are there, but no data.

If I try the same steps via the Processing Toolbox all is well.

Thanks to those who took the time to think about my issue. My projections

I have been able to isolate the error to one involving MapInfo and Easy

It surprises me that the only program that had issues with representing the

[Qgis-user] Style file to represent storm water assets

2015-02-03 Thread Johanna Botman

Hello,

In the vein of some other recent questions, I thought I would ask too.

I've been looking for ideas, suggestions and templates to visualise
stormwater assets but my research skills have not revealed much at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions to share?

[Qgis-user] Updating the legend an legend items in 2.6.1

2015-01-05 Thread Johanna Botman

I have a project that I use to create a map from a location specified in
a .gml file. I can get 10, 20 or 30 of these each day and want to make the
process as automated as possible.

I click and drag the .gml file onto the map canvas, right click the new
layer, zoom to the extent, then go to the composer, match the composer to
map canvas extent and produce my map.

In the legend, I do not want to show all the items in each layer on my
canvas. So I turn off the Auto Update option and make my changes. In 2.4
and previous versions, when I dragged the .gml file onto my map canvas, the
legend would automatically update with that layer, but now it doesn't. I
have to add that layer myself.

It seems to me that the Auto Update check box will update all items in all
layers and then I have to delete those items and layers I do not want to
show.

The other option there is the Update All button - but that appears to do
the same thing ... that is, update all the items in my layers and all the
layers in my project..

It's not a great ask, in the scheme of things, to manually add the new
layer, but it is a step that, given that it was automatic in previous
versions, I'd prefer not to have to perform.

Or have I missed something?

Re: [Qgis-user] freezing print composer on qgis 2.2.0 (64 bit) windows 7

2014-05-19 Thread Johanna Botman

I've been experiencing this issue as well.

It happens when I 'forget' to select between the Select/Move Item tool and
the Move Item Content tool.

So I could be working in the Map by panning and zooming with the Move Item
Content tool and then click on a text box to edit that. If I have not
selected the Select/Move Item tool when I click the text box then the whole
lot freezes.

I have waited for some time to see if it was a memory or refresh issue, but
in the end, it's easier to close it down and start again. I save early and
save often :)

[Qgis-user] Decimal places in Style Labels

2013-12-28 Thread Johanna Botman
When I create a style for a map, and use a Graduated set of categories, the
associated labels have four decimal places - all zeros. I can change each
one individually - but there are 10 categories and this map will be updated
on a weekly basis and I'm looking for an easier way.

I know that in the Labelling function, I can change the number of decimal
places. But that is the labelling for the items on the map. I'm looking for
the labels that will be displayed in the legend.

Hi again,

___
Johanna Botman

Hey Johanna, I just got OTB working today.

Here's what I did, because I did notice that it isn't installed
through the Stand Alone QGIS installer or the 64bit OSGeo4W packager.

 Download both:
 (1) otb-bin and (2) otb-python tar.bz2 files from
 http://orfeo-toolbox.org/packages/nightly/latest
These are nightly builds, but the only place I've found with current
Windows files needed for processing toolbox. So you can come back and
get them everyday if you like =P

They both contain a tar file after you first extract them.
Extract the contents of those tar files (you should see folders like
apps, bin, etc) to your QGIS directory so they merge with your
existing apps, bin and etc folders.
If you installed with OSGeo4W, you simply drop them into the OSGeo4W
 folder, for example.

Now you should be able to simply activate the OTB tools in the
providers config window for the processing toolbox without having to
specify a path to the OTB libs and such. They should be found
 automatically.

Re: [Qgis-user] Configuring the OTB toolbox?

2013-11-07 Thread Johanna . Botman
Thank you for your answers.

Werner, I was aware of that setting. What I find there is that there is an
'x' in the Activate box, but no file path. So I looked for the file path by
using Windows Explorer and couldn't find it.

Jose, I am using Windows 7 and QGIS version 2. I looked for your suggested
file path, but again, no luck.

Perhaps I have made the mistake of assuming that if I can see the entries
for Orfeo Toolbox in the Processing Toolbox then it is installed.

My installation of QGIS was done via the Windows installer, not through
Osgeo. Would I be right, now, to say that I need it as a separate
installation?

Hi Johanna,

If you are using the version 2.0 you just need to put the path for the OTB
files in the configuration menu. In my case, I'm using Linux version
(Ubuntu 12.04), put this paths in the configuration menu:

OTB applications folder: /usr/lib/otb

OTB command line tools folder: /usr/lib

 Hi!

Just to be sure .. first of all you have to have the orfeo toolbox
installed
 (http://orfeo-toolbox.org/otb/)

 Then within
Processing - Options and configuration - Providers - Orfeo Toolbox

You can set the OTB applications folder and the OTB command line tools
folder

 Hope this will help

Re: [Qgis-user] Customising QGIS DuFour install - Windows

2013-10-17 Thread Johanna . Botman
Thanks for the answer Jonathan, but I don't believe this answers my
question.

If I change the font setting under Settings | Options | General, it also
changes ALL the fonts for the GUI. I only want to be able to change the
default font for the composer for a particular project.

I have been told that I can edit the project file in a text editor and
change all font instances to the font that I want. But I'm not happy with
that solution either because it would mean completing the project and then
changing everything. I would prefer to be able to see what my layout looks
like as I am creating it. Font size and font weight play a big part in the
look and feel of a map. If I changed the font in the project file, I'd
probably have to revisit all my design decisions as well.

Hi Johanna,
In Settings - Options, under the General tab you can set the
application font, including size. This seems to carry over to Composer, or
does for me at least.

The second point sounds like a bug - I'd suggest reporting it to the bug

[Qgis-user] Customising QGIS DuFour install - Windows

2013-10-10 Thread Johanna . Botman

There are two things that I'd like to do to customise my installation of
QGIS v2.

1. I'd like to be able to set a different default font in Composer. Perhaps
its a girlie thing, but MS Shell Dlg 2 just doesn't do it for me and I find
the default font size bigger than I need it to be.
2. The little screen tip boxes that show up when I hover over an icon are
too small for the whole text in the tip. How can I make those bigger? (The
boxes, not the text)

Can anyone help?

[Qgis-user] Password for Polygoniser plug-in zip file

2013-08-22 Thread Johanna . Botman

Hi,

I'm trying to install the Polygoniser plug-in to use with my QGIS v1.9
Master.

The plug-in manager does not find it automatically because it is, by
default, looking for version 2 plugins. So I downloaded the .zip file and
planned to install it in the plugins directory.

But the zipped archive is asking for a password. I'm hopeless at guessing
beyond 'password' and 'qgis' and don't have time to muck around.

Can anyone help?

I got it from the site and then under the creator's name.

But I guess it doesn't matter if it is useless to me anyway. Thanks for
the reply.

[Qgis-user] Move point object QGIS v1.9.27

2013-07-16 Thread Johanna . Botman

I'm trying to move a point object in a layer in QGIS v1.9 but am
struggling.

I can toggle edit on the layer and I can select the point, but my Move
Features button is greyed out and it is not available under the Edit menu.

I feel that I am missing something obvious ...

Re: [Qgis-user] [Qgis-community-team] Question about plugins #1

2013-07-09 Thread Johanna . Botman

it is possible (just unzip it in the dir), but not encouraged.
why not using the installer?
all the best.

The short answer to that question is that my firewall doesn't allow access
to the plugin sites.

Johanna,

Have you tried setting up the proxy settings?

- Nathan

No, I hadn't. I'll talk to our IT folks about that.
