[Ql-Users] QPC2 <> W7

2016-01-04 Thread Colin McKay
I use QPC2 on a laptop running W7. At the same time I have Autocad running,
and I frequently switch between the two. Sometimes I minimise one program
before awakening the other, and sometimes I open one on top of the other. I
have not had any difficulties. The only other factor is that the laptop is
never connected to the Internet.

Aye Colin, I think the problem is when Windows goes into sleep/screen saver
mode and subsequently is woken up. Not just switching from one program to the
other.

At least that's how I understood it anyway.

Happy New Year.

Cheers,
Norm.

I'm using Lubuntu 14.X and my migration from Windows XP was quite
smooth. At the time I was using all Open Source tools that are also
cross platform:

   Firefox for web browser
Open Office for Word processor, spreadsheet
   Thunderbird for e-mail
   Scribus for DTP
   DOSbox for old DOS programs
   SMSQMulator for QL emulation

The things that I had to get were:
Xfburn for burning CD's
Asunder for CD ripping
Handbrake for DVD ripping

All the software I installed from scratch. For Thunderbird, I moved the
large mailbox file from one node to another and I had my config and old
e-mails.

I'm using both Qemualtor and QPC2 under Wine. I don't use QPC2 that
much, but it works when I use it.

I used Lubuntu because I like LXDE desktop environment. Other
distributions might have it too.

I have had the same problem with W$7 but not recently.
Having QPC2 open full screen (windowed) could have been a factor.
I now always buttonise QPC2 before letting W$ fall asleep or slumber,
which is also more energy efficient.

I also did find that having the keyboard set to SMSQ/E in the config
screen doesn't agree well with sleep mode. When W$ is then woken the
change is that the QPC2 keys produce rubbish, then the only solution
is to kill QPC2. When set to WINDOWS keys this is not the case.

I have no experience with W$10, yet.

Thanks Bob. The thing is that everything worked fine until it suddenly
stopped working (consistently) for a period of a few weeks. It hasnt
happened again since the day I posted to this list so perhaps you guys
have been praying/meditating very hard, bombarding my system with
positive vibes ;) in which case my thanks are implied to the degree
appropriate in each instance..

Yo! Norman. Does QPC2 still work under current versions of Wine? My
only valid Linux installation ATM is on RasPi - too slow to be worth
testing. Almost every year I reconsider whether its worth emigrating
to Linux, but its just such a hassel. And tho different, to me there
seems to be as much to hate in both systems. (Apple can hardly be
considered an option for grownups and has silly hardware
restrictions.) Makes me wonder whether I might outlive QDOS/SMSQ
