Yes indeed - the site is overloaded.

I managed to get to the main product page. This URL will save one L O N

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/bespoke/bespoke7.jsp?ICID=I-RASP-HPBLOF-0015bespokepage=farnell/en_UK/promotions/raspberryPi.jsp

A purchase of over £45 has zero carriage charge, so look for something
else to buy (one more Pi?).

Amazingly the product page makes not mention of price.
Also only model B (the only one to buy!) is offered at the moment.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure to understand what you mean. I didn't know that
expression. I found this in thefreedictionary.com:

---
Phrasal Verb:
cough up Slang
---
1. To hand over or relinquish (money or another possession), often
reluctantly.
2. To confess or disclose: When he saw that the police might arrest him,
he coughed up the details of what he had seen.
---
re·lin·quish
---
1. To retire from; give up or abandon.
2. To put aside or desist from (something practiced, professed, or intended).
3. To let go; surrender.
4. To cease holding physically; release: relinquish a grip.
---

As I said, the project is not mature yet, and still hardly usable beside
testing, if that's what you mean. But it's under active development and has a
great potential. Its author developed BASin for years, a successful and
popular IDE for Sinclar BASIC, written in Delphi for Windows. That's a
guarantee for this new and more ambitious project.

Perhaps we could help steer the project more towards SBasic by
implementing such things as channels. Has anyone here got the skills,
time and motivation to do this. Our company is considering porting this
to ARM (Raspberry Pi included), but we need to study the licence. If we
do I'll try and make it policy to use SBasic as the programming model to
use when enhancing the language.

I forgot to mention the SpecBAS project by Paul Dunn (http://specbas.co.uk).
It's a BASIC interpreter based on the old ZX Spectrum's BASIC, but much
improved, more powerful and multiplatform. It is still alpha but looks quite
promising. I think it soon will suit the needs you mention.

There are binary packages for Windows, Linux (Intel) and the Pandora's
Ångström (http://openpandora.org). It's written in Free Pascal and it's open
source, so it can be compiled for other platforms as well.

In fact I'm considering SpecBAS as an alternative to SBASIC for a couple of
game projects under development. The source code conversion would not be
difficult, and the benefits would be remarkable: wider audience; easier
programming of sounds and graphics; and the chance to be able to contribute to
an open and evolving project.

Their website is still down! I have ordered one by phone (01772 654455
to beat the dreaded '08') for £21.60 plus VAT. They confirmed the
website issue was due to demand, and they were even struggling with
their intranet, which probably uses a similar database interface.

Nice headline - Raspberries crash UKs largest distributor.

It will be interesting to see whether it is possible to port QDOS.
As it runs Linux, I guess UQLX will be the route.

 I
have been having a look at the Turbo Parser, and have noticed an error
in the first few lines of the code. In the call to Init_Names
if there are too many structs then Complain is called. Complain
will RETRY, however at this stage no RETRY_HERE has been encountered,
and so the only place where it can retry is at the start. And so an
infinite loop is created. Each time around this loop COMPILATION
ABORTED will be written to the log file. I hope you don't mind me
bringing this to your attention, this is only a very minor bug – it
 would not happen very often.

There is a RETRY_HERE when Init_Names is called. It is at the start of every
program compiled by Turbo v4.11 and after. However, this would indeed lead to
an infinite loop.

My suggested correction is:

10250 IF NOT _quit: Set_Links : Dialogue
10254 erased

(In Init_Names)

11508 RETRY_HERE
11509 IF _quit : RETurn

I'm happy to wait until the market settles, and then perhaps we shall be
able to buy over the counter locally at Stockport RS counter to avoid
carriage.

My simple need is to replace the bulky QL, and also having to keep
spares just to do my little apps. I've usb hubs, wireless usb keyboard
and usb floppies which do me. I just haven't the time or skills to set
it up. I'm going to have to rely on help, probably from the local group
or a workshop. I take it that this will be getting the right stuff on
the SD card.

When I first got the cpc-farnell Pi page it had a link to Add to

opened for telephone sales, and they accepted my order with credit card.
The website was down until well after midday.
When the site recovered, the *same* cpc-farnell page only had a form to
express interest.

I am pretty sure there is effectively only *one* contact point, and the
appearance of the form was simply that their initial stock, probably
5000 (ie 50% of the initial run), was sold out.
The 'interest' form was on RS very very early, so I suspect they sold
out quickly due to the Farnell web issue.

I bet Farnell will invest in better IT systems soon!
