Where can I get replacement chips?

Have you cleaned the chips legs?
You cannot replace them randomly and hope for the best.
If you need qubide checked out, I would recommend sending it to someone who has
a working qubide. Rich, can you help?

I guess you didn't see see my previous email?  Are you using Qplane?
If so then I found that was unreliable with Qubide.  I had to keep Qubide
nearest the QL, or even hang SGC on the through connector.
All has been fine (for a decade now) with Mplane.

I do not know whether I have Qplane. It was assembled by Qubbesoft in 2003.
The SGC was plugged into Qubide which was plugged into the backplane. I have
separated them and and tried them in different positions.
As it is now, when I switch on with a floppy disk in flp1_, it goes through the
first initionalising stage ignoring the floppy and the F1/F2 selction comes up
on the screen. I press F1 and it fires up the floppy wich is a Qpac2 floppy.
I enter load win1_ boot and I can run the boot file from the line after the
SMSQ installation and everythig seems to be working.
I did try Aurorql in place of SMSQ but it was the same it stops at the first dot
I have discovered  a reason why my display occasionally used to break up and a
sharp tap on the case used to cure it, and it seems to be the back plane
connection

Ah.

Maybe you haven't got the SMSQ line as something like:

IF ver$HBA:code to run smsq:ENDIF

.. and SMSQ is loading repeatedly at every restart.

It sounds from your description above that the qubide is working fine.

Did you try qubide with no hard disk connected, as I suggested?
If OK try without a 'boot' file. If you still get a locked up QL then
(of course) it is qubide that is faulty.

Anyone any suggestions on how he can investigate qubide?
All I can suggest is he cleans legs of socketed chips.
It could be a dodgy gal, I suppose.

Then it is the Super Gold Card which is at fault - try easing some of

Try removing chips, cleaning legs and replacing. Careful about the

Have you checked the cable itself from the monitor.

Your described symptoms could be a broken connection to one of the pins.

Or some damage at the QL connection side.

If you do need a replacement monitor for the QL, then I do have several
suitable ones available too ( from the London QL Quanta Group ).

Hi, My aurora machine has stopped working

When I switch on the monitor screen is all one colour ie red, green etc.

I have  changed the monitor, It seems to me the vertical control is not
working either.

I was having trouble with Qubide. I put my master floppy in to restore

Qubide will no longer do a 'make_dir' if the name exists and it will

Indeed. It is very easy to bend pins at the edge and often they will
short. If you have be very careful. You have only *one* chance as these
pins are not malleable. I use two flat jewellers screwdrivers. The pins
need to be quite straight to ensure a good connection.

Hi, My aurora machine has stopped working

When I switch on the monitor screen is all one colour ie red, green etc.

I have  changed the monitor, It seems to me the vertical control is not
 working either.

I was having trouble with Qubide. I put my master floppy in to restore
Qubide, but my floppy must be corrupt. I e-mailed Roy, but I have not had a
 response.

Qubide will no longer do a 'make_dir' if the name exists and it will not
 operate' Store'.

  Please advise,

 Hi Arnold,

I have spare disks for your QubIDE - which version ROM is used?

It sounds to me as though your Gold Card or Super Gold Card is not plugged in
properly - have you checked all the connectors?

Indeed.  It is very easy to bend pins at the edge and often they will short. If
you have be very careful.  You have only *one* chance as these pins are not
malleable. I use two flat jewellers screwdrivers.  The pins need to be quite
straight to ensure a good connection.

Thanks Tony for your reply. the ROM is JM.

Yes I am using a SGC. I have three slots I can plug the SGC in to and I cannot
see a bent pin in any of them.

... then first check with a *real* QL that SGC is working.
