Is the disable web access box checked if you look at the account in vqadmin? On 07/23/2014 13:57, Diana Calder wrote: I have an odd problem with one user account. I have used vuserinfo to compare the account settings against other, correctly working, accounts and there are no differences in the flags or limits. A possible symptom or secondary issue is that the problem account is using 78% of its 1Gb quota, despite the fact that the user has cleared out most of his old mail via the POP3 client (that's the same percentage as before he cleared out the old email). He has about 700 messages in his Inbox and about 500 in his Sent, which really doesn't seem like enough to add up to ~780Mb, even if some have attachments. I have double that many messages and it only comes out to 9% (90 Mb) of a 1Gb quota. As a side note - when we moved to a CentOS6 VM with the compatible version of Qmailtoaster, we made the switch from Courier to Dovecot at the same time. That appears to have left a number of Courier directories behind in each account's Maildir. Does anyone have a cleanup script to get rid of these obsolete directories? - To unsubscribe, e-mail: qmailtoaster-list-unsubscr...@qmailtoaster.com For additional commands, e-mail: qmailtoaster-list-h...@qmailtoaster.com

Re: [qmailtoaster] A rudimentary question for multi-domain hosting
Thanks Dan, that's exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't sure if this was the proper way to configure the MX records, or if all of my domains should have MX records that point to a single A record in my primary domain, which is where the PTR for my IP points to and that is in my ME file. It sounds like either will work. On 04/28/2014 13:55, Dan McAllister wrote: Kelly: While Eric's reply is clear about the fact that the MX record has to use an A record reference (vs CNAME), I think the answer you need here is simply that the A-record has to point to the correct IP address. What name you put in the MX record is of little import, so long as it references an A record that points to the correct IP address. === By way of examples (for other users): Say my mail host is at 10.0.0.2, behind a NAT router with WAN IP address 1.2.3.4 (apologies to Google for using their IP in my example). - my mail host listens on ALL the standard ports (25, 80, 110, 143, 443, 465, 587, 993, 995) for web and mail hosting (all forwarded through my router). - my mail host uses a name of MAIL.QMTHOSTING.COM (that's one of MY OWN hosting domains, so no worries about using it here) - my clients each have their own domains (for grins, we'll use A.COM, B.COM, C.COM, etc) - in general, my clients DNS servers (whether hosted by me or not, with entries for their domains that look like: @ IN MX 10 MAIL MAIL IN A 1.2.3.4 Thus, to the outside world, they have an MX server at MAIL.A.COM, which resolves to 1.2.3.4. (Their domain name, their A record, my IP address). Now, where the SPAM detection for IP addressing starts is when an outside mail server connects: - sendingdomain.com wants to send to u...@a.com detects the MX record is MAIL.A.COM, which resolves (by A-record) to 1.2.3.4 - sendingdomain.com connects to 1.2.3.4 on port 25 and gets an EHLO response that the name of the server is MAIL.QMTHOSTING.COM - sendingdomain.com then does a DNS query for MAIL.QMTHOSTING.COM and gets an IP of 1.2.3.4 -- so far, so good - sendingdomain.com next does a DNS query for 1.2.3.4 (actually, 4.3.2.1.IN-ADDR.ARPA) and gets a PTR value of MAIL.QMTHOSTING.COM -- bingo! a match! - sendingdomain.com continues sending the message (presumably to a domain in the rcpthosts file)... The trouble comes when you want to connect your _CLIENTS_... - for WEBMAIL, I simply create an entry for each domain (HTTPS://MAIL.A.COM [1], etc) that redirects to the real ssl page HTTPS://MAIL.QMTHOSTING.COM [2]. That way the SSL certificate (which only has the name mail.qmthosting.com in it) works. (I do not allow webmail access except through https). - for IMAP mail, there are 3 options: a) connect to MAIL.A.COM on port 143 and use IMAP with _no security_ (BAD IDEA -- I only allow this on one host, and only because the client INSISTS upon it) b) connect to MAIL.A.COM on port 993 and use IMAP OVER SSL -- clients will have _varying degrees of difficulty _as the SSL Cert won't match the host name c) connect to MAIL.QMTHOSTING.COM on port 993 and use IMAP OVER SSL with my TRUSTED SSL CERTIFICATE (names match, so no errors, and no worries!) NOTE: Most clients choose option C -- in large part because I tell them to :) - The same general idea goes for POP access, only on ports 110 and 995. SMTP access is a little more tricky... it is a BEST PRACTICE to disallow SMTP-AUTH on port 25 (because it can be abused -- I'm not sure how, but all the major anti-virus and anti-spam companies tell me so, and I'm not of a need to determine exactly why -- I have bigger fish to fry!). Since this is the only un-authenticated access to the system, this port's SMTP service is plugged into SPAMDYKE -- which has been told to NOT allow SMTP-AUTH. But that is OK, because we're talking about CLIENT access to an SMTP server here: - I allow SMTP-AUTH with or without SSL on port 587 (if you choose to enable SSL, remember that the certificate is for the site mail.qmthosting.com) - I allow SMTP-AUTH only with SSL on port 465 (again, remember that the certificate is for the hostname mail.qmthosting.com). So, clients can configure their SMTP access as being on port 587 using mail.a.com, or port 465 using SSL and the host name mail.qmthosting.com. I really need to post some of this on the WIKI ... sigh when I'm less overworked :) Dan On 4/25/2014 7:41 PM, Kelly Cobean wrote: Sorry about the hijack Eric. Won't do that again. One last question. There's gotta some way for DMARC rules to allow for this. I'm guessing that ezmlm makes the outgoing messages appear to be coming from yahoo. Is there a configuration setting which would make them appear to be coming from the ezmlm list instead? I'm guessing this would bypass the DMARC check. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Yeah, my list server preserves the original senders email address when sending to the list, just like qmailtoaster-list does. I figure people won't know who an email is coming from if I don't. I'd change it if I have to, but preserving the original sender email is ideal. Upon some digging. http://www.mail-list.com/yahoo-dmarc-solution/?gclid=CJvT8s3U9L0CFe07OgodI3AAgQ Sigh. Freakin' Yahoo. [qmailtoaster] domain display issues in vqadmin
I have one domain in vqadmin that when I try to display the domain properties using view domain, I get a blank screen. All of my other domains display properly. Re: [qmailtoaster] Help, I'm an open relay!!
Hey Sebastian, I thought leaked password as well at first, but there are at least two accounts I see under auth: mine and one other. I suppose it's possible that they were guessed/leaked, but it's awfully coincidental that it's two accounts in the same domain on a server running at least 6 domains. I only saw two IP addresses doing all this spamming, so I put those in iptables and things seem quiet for now. I'll change the passwords on those two accounts as well. I'm really glad spamcop has an easy way to delist a server once an issue is fixed. Thanks. Kelly On 04/03/2014 11:42, Sebastian Grewe wrote: Have you checked for hijacked accounts? Re: [qmailtoaster] Help, I'm an open relay!!
Ok, I'm gonna ask a real dumb question. When I ran squirrel mail and the old QmailRocks distro (yep, LONG time ago), I had a squirrelmail plugin to allow people to change passwords via the squirrel. Now I'm running QTP and Roundcube. I still have squirrelmail running, bu the password change results in a connection refused error. How the heck do users change their passwords in QTP? Do I have to do it for them using qmailadmin? Thanks. Kelly On 04/03/2014 11:42, Sebastian Grewe wrote: Have you checked for hijacked accounts? I need to flush my qmail queue and for the life of me can't remember how. I looked around online and can't find anything newer than about 2004 in regards to this. I'd prefer something that looks a little less dated than Squirrelmail and that has a good mobile interface. Our Intranet is a hosted Noodle instance, so I'm not really interested in extra bells and whistles like calendars and such - just good solid email features like a decent address book (though a nice shared one in addition to personal ones would be nice), the ability to set a vacation response, basic filtering, and allowing individual users to change their password. eGroupware is probably overkill for our needs and even Horde may be a little over the top - but they're also the two nicest looking. Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: DK problem
Sounds like this has more to do with the volume and or content of messages hitting the yahoo servers than with DK. If you read the link (http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=contenty=PROD_MAIL_MLlocale=en_USid=SLN3436impressions=true) they are recommending that you inspect you mail outflow to see if someone is spamming from one of your accounts. Perhaps someone has had an account compromised? I'd look at your logs to see if one particular user is sending an inordinate amount of mail. Dear friends, I am facing the same problem with DK. Says all messages from my servers are permanently deferred. (see the copy of the bounce). What surprises me is why this problem is arising suddenly - my server is up for the past 3 years or more. Re: [qmailtoaster] Very Slow Server
Hi Mike, A couple of things I would try: 1. Have you tested DNS via DIG/NSLOOKUP to see if requests against authoritative servers are coming back in a timely fashion? 2. Can you try pointing your server to an external DNS server (8.8.8.8 is a favorite) to see if that alleviates the problem? Anything in the DJBDNS server logs to indicate timeout or other issues? Having a problem with a very slow server. I updated it about three weeks ago to the latest version of qmailtoaster. Everything was running fine until last week. I had made a change to our dns server so I thought that might be the problem. A day later I had a very difficult time getting into the server through ssh. I ended up turning off dns lookup for ssh and it seemed to work fine again. When I ping a dns name, it takes over twice as long to start the ping whereas the ip address will ping right away. The result of this dns issue is slowing down the network traffic. Keep in mind that this server has been running for over two years without issues. I checked the memory, cpu and hard drive usage. Everything checks out fine. I don't know why it just now started having problems. I have djbdns running a dnscache server on the loop back. I also have two other dns servers running tinydns that maintain my domain. Any suggestions would be great. Just for the record, doing qmailctl restart should not be necessary in this instance. When cdb files are modified by the cdb option, they are automagically refreshed by whatever process uses them. The restart function only restarts the qmail-smtpd process on port 25 and the qmail-send process (only). I just had a look at the code, and come to think of it, it should probably be restarting the qmail-smtpd on port 587 as well. It's a little confusing, as restart only acts on qmail processes, while start and stop affect everything that supervise controls under the /var/qmail/supervise tree, including spamd, clamd, etc. Also FWIW, doing qmailctl is the same as service qmail. They both run the exact same code. -- -Eric 'shubes' Great info. Thank you Eric. I wonder if maybe one of the subsequent packages (simscan perhaps) has a tcp.smtp file that needs to be updated. Could be that's where it came from. Simscan hadn't been updated in a while before the recent one. rpm shows qmail-toaster as owning file file though. H. Seems to me that qmail-toaster should be dependent upon simscan, but that's not how things are presently set up. I need to look into this in a bit more detail. Thanks for pointing this out, Kelly. -- -Eric 'shubes' Glad to help. Thanks for all your hard work putting this all together. I used a qmailrocks installation (on an FC4 box!) for almost 5 years prior to changing over to QTP last month and let me tell ya the QMR install was ROUGH! QT/QTP is worlds better, especially with all the script automation.
