My 22 year old son, who became a quad about 6 months ago, has had numerous
issues since initial hospitalization. The most recurring is UTI and some
bladder infections. He was in a hospital and rehab for 3-1/2 months total.
He had a foley for 2 months initially. After the 2 months,

I had good luck with a Texas cath for my 1st 40 years as a quad. I ended up
with a home made version from a regular condom attached to a piece of

I have pretty much stayed with intermittent cathing as it has worked for me.
I was told earlier on by my urologist-unfortunately now deceased-to try and
continue with intermittent as it would enable my bladder to remain pliable
and able to hold more urine. This has worked for

I wish my caregiver slept on the same floor as I! My bed is in the family

Greetings Mom Dad,
Before I start to offer you some suggestions, I will begin with Hello and
Good Wishes to you and your family.
I don't know what happened to your son or which hospital he did his Rehab,
as hospitals will vary in their treatment and rehab. If you haven't been

same and what works for one... or even most... won't necessarily work for your
son. So, you are wise in getting a range of opinions.

The intermitant catheterization is used as a tool in bladder training a
neurogenic bladder. I don't think your doctor understands the goal of the
treatment. If he does, he has done a poor job of explaining it to you.
When you cath your son you should be keeping track of how many CC's of urine

Hi Dollbug,
First, let me tell you how my heart goes out to you and that its clear you must
be a wonderful mother. I am sure your son appreciates your help and sacrifice,
even if he does not always show it. We quads can get frustrated sometimes and
express it as anger. Best thing you can do
