The President that I didn’t vote 4 but will back with my life the same goes 4 this elected governor. I’ll just have 2 support there decisions that they say are necessary. Even if Clint does view the disabled this way, he didn't actually write

Sharon,

Welcome to the quadlist. I don't post much. I learn a lot from
just reading. I also get some good laughs. I'm a mom. My son has CP and had his
injury at age 22.(surgery gone bad). He has some difficulties and has chosen not
to participate in the list. I have only met one other person with a
diagnosis of CP and SCI. The combination makes for double the spasticity
for Gabe. He has a baclofen pump and he really feels better.

I look forward to your posts.

Stacey,

I don't use public transportation but we do have a handicap service that is
run by the city bus service that will bring your door to door for only $2 as of
a year ago.  My license was about to run out before I started my driver
training.  I had no trouble renewing my license and I did not even need any
restrictions on it because it's pretty obvious that I'm not going to be able to
get behind the wheel of a normal vehicle without major modifications.  It
was my choice after I took my drivers training to take a drivers test to have
restrictions put on my license.  I saw no reason to do this and there is no
law in Minnesota stating that I need to do this so I never did.

I agree that¹s discrimination you also should get in touch with the civil

your civil rights. But definitely an ADA violation.

I don't think you all are going to see much of me in there. School has now
started back up and I have a pretty hard schedule. I don't know how active
I will be with the list either. I had transcript issues and stuck having
the earliest classes. I think it will be all I have just to handle the
classes. Mon, Wed, and Fri, I have an 8 oclock class and I since I rely on
the most unreliable public transportation, I am getting picked up at 6:30
when the school is 40 mins away with the time it takes to tie or lock me
down in the bus.

The transit charges double for disabled who require door to door. In the
fixed rides that AB's take, the cost of the ride is 2 dollars and an
additional dollar if they need to transfer. If they live on an off beaten
path more than 3/4 of a mile they can get a ride to the bus stop for an
additional dollar. Disabled who require curb to curb service have to pay
double what AB's pay. I have curb to curb service and still pay as I live in
a rural area and hardly live in a rural area. I'm fighting hard about that
as I live a half mile from the highway. That's hardly rural. I then have
to pay for transfer points that I don't use because I ride directly. I ride
directly there and directly back. Before the tri county govt. took over I
was taking a different company for school and only paying 4 dollars no
matter what. Now I am paying 6 or more each way. I tried to get a ride for
Monday but couldn't get a hold of anyone to schedule it on Friday.

My van is tagged and ready to get the work on the modifications however the
man from voc rehab that was supposed to come go over the stuff for the test
when I was approved from the DMV is on medical leave and I now have to wait
until April to do so. That will make it over a year and a half since I have
been working with voc rehab to get my license. The sad thing is that my
license from before I got sick is still valid. How much trouble would I get
into for using that to go down the street to practice my parking or driving
around the neighborhood and practicing my 3pt turns at the dead ends? I'm
pretty damn irritated with the whole system. Does anyone else have any
problems like this with their public transportation?

Well I guess I opened a can of worms or SNAKES this time. I TRULY APPOLOGIZE for anyone that I’ve offended. I’m usually more thoughtful before I open my mouth, but I slipped up. Things happen... 4 those that don’t know me think as U will... 4 those that do know me ... Well U know me there’s no need 2 speak up or say anything on my behalf... I’m a grown man & will stand on anything I’ve said...

About the movie I’ve always loved Clint Eastwood as an actor & director ...  Morgan freeman I love as an actor ... He’s pretty adamant about picking movie scripts and the characters... I’ll have 2 see and judge 4 myself... Clint I didn’t know had those views about disabilities

I don’t know what dr. your son had but he should’ve been sued 7 lose his license 2 practice. I wanted 2 die after I 1st became a quad ... But if my Dr. would’ve said it he’d have gotten cursed out.

[QUAD-L] Paralysis Device Human Trial Can't Match Canine Success

2005-01-30 Thread wheelchair
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana: Paralysis patients implanted with a device that
bathed their damaged spinal cords in a shifting electrical field regained some
sensation and function below their injury level site, scientists report.
Although promising, the clinical trial on 10 people did not produce the level
of improvement seen in tests on paralyzed dogs, some of which regained the
ability to walk.
Scott Shapiro, a neurosurgeon at the Indiana University School of Medicine,
said the results suggest that patients improvements were caused by nerve growth
at the injury site induced by the device's electrical field.
Shapiro said that phase one trial proved that the battery powered implants,
called oscillating field stimulators, are indeed safe to use in humans.
The stimulators, about the size of a cigarette lighter, were inserted below
the skin, with electrodes running to both sides of the injury site. They were
removed 15 weeks later.
Shapiro said four patients regained some movement in previously paralyzed
limbs, including one man who can now lift and extend one of his legs. None,
however, recovered enough to stand unassisted.
When Purdue researchers tested the device on more than 100 paralyzed dogs,
about 85% showed improved bodily functions, and some regained the ability to
walk.

Those interested in further information may wish to contact Shapiro at
Indiana University, in Bloomington,IN.
