Fwd: [QUAD-L] I'm so tired of being patient

2015-02-05 Thread Larry Willis
I imagine all of us on here have expressed those thoughts repeatedly. I know I
have. Everyday I question whether this life of complete dependence is worth it.
Most days the answer is yes, but as I get older and the routines get longer and
harder, yes gets harder to say. This is year 44 for me. Sores won't heal, arms
are weaker, harder to drive, aches and pains multiply, legs are bent and stiff,
stomach and bladder hurt. Has it been worth it? Yes. But the rule of
diminishing returns is alive and well.

MORNING!! Having it take 2 hours+'s THEN still need to do more Quad shit

I'm so tired of being hungry but needing to wait for somebody to make me

[QUAD-L] Shirley! Bed stuff!

2015-02-05 Thread Larry Willis
Shirley, it stinks to the high heaven! I had the very same problem with my van
lift last fall. Discontinued! Obsolete! I finally got a church friend with a
schematic and he fixed it. It was a $2.50 relay under the hood. Made me want to
say many bad words. I got the relay at O'Reilly auto parts. Good luck and God
bless. I'll wager it can be fixed. If the problem lies in a circuit board in
the control, several online shops can fix it. I'll send you the one I use.

Subject: [QUAD-L] transfer master bed problem

Hi everyone, I contacted the transfer master bed co. because to remote for
our double bed is not connecting on the up and down. Sometimes it will and
can get it to work but its a matter of time. The other functions on it work
ok. Anyway, this was his response when I called about getting a new remote.

 Hi Mrs. Bell,

Barb brought me your file and related your conversations to me. As a
courtesy to you I reviewed this again and it is an inescapable conclusion
that you bed has discontinued parts. Some of the companies that supplied us
the electronics are not in business anymore and there is nothing to be done.

Your bed is 14 years old. Should you wish to consult with a local
electrician they may be able to work around the issues. As a courtesy we can
offer you a new bed with greatly discounted price.

 All the best,

 Aaron Goldsmith

This is what I sent back to him in reply.
Dear Aaron, I can't believe this. I rely on your bed to go up and down for my
disability needs. It is vital to my existence. I will check with and
electrician as you suggest but if that does not work. What would reduced
price be? Could you just put in new motor etc. to save me money? I am on
many forums and chat rooms with others looking for equipment such as a double
bed like the one I have from you. I have always recommended your company to
them but feel most conflicted over this.
 Best,
 Shirley Bell
What do you guys think of this. I think it really sucks, paid 5 thousand for
 this bed!

[QUAD-L] Core exercises

2015-02-05 Thread ntpgrnmtn
Wondering what exercises people do to help strengthen their core and improve
posture?
For those in a manual chair how do you position your seat cushion(dump) and
back support to prevent slumping?

Re: [QUAD-L] I'm so tired of being patient

2015-02-05 Thread greg
I'm pretty lucky, it only takes me 15-20 minutes to get up/down.
Except the 2x a week bathing, etc.
I try to set things up to be as easy as possible. I no longer do (Range Of
Motion). Well, not as often. I stretch my hands myself while I'm up. But a
quick stretch of my legs every few weeks still works well.
I often set easy accessible snacks on the edge of the table that I can slide
onto my lap.
Not sure what level you are, I'm a C/5, I know a C/4 or higher would be a lot
more work.
And I freeze water bottles half full. Then when I want juice or pop I just have
it poured in it. I use an insolated bottle holder that hangs from a strap. It
can keep it cold a long time. I hang it from my arm rest.
I can do pretty well for awhile.

Fwd: [QUAD-L] New Chair

2015-02-05 Thread Larry Willis
I have had very good luck with invacare. It and quickie have more space
underneath for tie-downs etc. I'm sure they are better now, but belt drive
chairs have caused me to use many foul words, especially the old EJ variety.

 DON’T get a quantum! I just changed from a Quantum 6000z to a Permobil M300
and love it! My Quantum kept breaking and always had weird issues but my new
Permobil M300 is leaps and bounds better.

thanks

I have had a Quickie Pulse 6 with tilt for about 2 years now. I have had no
problems with it. It is also good outdoors (within reason). Not good in
gravel.

Thanks Larry for tuning in.

I'm sorry for complaining. But who else is going to understand?

I was in bed for 2 weeks vomiting while laying down ... not fun. Better now.

I have a teeny tiny sore on my butt. I got WORSE while I was in bed!!!
