If you're looking for a desktop replacement,
http://www.microcenter.com/product/481879/rog_gl702zc-wb74_173_gaming_laptop_computer_-_black#tab-specs
should serve you (battery life is not great for obvious reasons). (I have a
ryzen CPU -- 1600x -- with older Radeon graphics card (which has kernel
support), works splendidly.)
Your issues with q4 probably don't stem from the CL cpu though, but from
problematic Pascal support.

*ML thread reply*
Hey guys you can install the latest microcode now from linux-firmware,
no NDA or w/e I believe this is the latest version.
See my thread on the coreboot ML for more info.

Remember folks the G505S has a piledriver cpu and thus it NEEDS a
microcode update to have IOMMU (and thus work for V4) and be secure due
to various exploits.

before:
microcode: CPU0 patch_level=0x0600084f

after:
microcode: CPU0: new patch_level=0x06000852

I think this is the latest version but I don't know for sure.

Anyone have one of these?

802.11bgn

It recognizes but only sometimes sees WiFi networks. Seems to work better when
I connect the USB after sys-net is started.

It connects to my network but loses service after a minute or two even tho it's
still connected to the network.

I think the Linux formate package is already installed That would make it
work, right? I'm trying to avoid using the Alfa drivers.

Yea i think the dvm template (whonix-ws-dvm or whatever it's called) has
its own copy of tor browser in it so that's the one that needs to be
updated, then the update will be persistent in new dispVMs.

I downloaded tor browser in it manually first, and i think it would
prompt to install tor browser every time otherwise.

Hmm are you setting the bookmarks in an actual dispVM or in the dvm
template vm (like whonix-ws-dvm)? My understanding is that when you
create a dispVM qubes makes a temporary copy of the dvm template, so
changes made to the dvm template itself would persist. At least that's
the way it works for me in 3.2. I made certain changes in whonix-ws-dvm
like making sure settings are the way i want them, so they'll persist in
dispVMs.

No I have a $, but I logged in as root in "rescue qubes system" --> by
entering: chroot /mnt/sysimage then I changed my password, then reboot, but I'm
still stuck at the user-menu...

For that I've entered : qvm-device block attach archives dom0:sdb
but I don't know how to mount SAMSUNG within archives and then find the path..
I tried commands like:
qvm-run archives fdisk -l --> doesn't work
qvm-run archives mkdir --> here it stuck and the text becomes red...
qvm-run archives mnt --> here it stuck and the text becomes red...

Thanks! Before that the challenge is to mount the device in archives and find
the path...

[qubes-users] qubes gpg setup - default algorithms and its changes

2018-05-21 Thread qubes-fan
I would like to know what are the default algos used by the qubes-os, and how
to change it.

I execute following in my vault-safe VM (using gpg-split, with work VM as a
frontend).

user@vault-safe:~$ gpg --edit-key mykey
user@vault-safe:~$ setpref SHA512 SHA384 SHA256 SHA224 AES256 AES192 AES CAST5
ZLIB BZIP2 ZIP Uncompressed
user@vault-safe:~$ save

When I than execute
user@vault-safe:~$ gpg --clearsign -u mykey
than the hash is  Hash: SHA256. Why If I setpref the SHA512 first? Shouldnt it
be the SHA512 instead?

With
user@vault-safe:~$ gpg --clearsign -u mykey --digest-algo SHA512
...it returns the right Hash: SHA512

How do I set the SHA512 as a default algo?

Good, that should make the rest much easier. Are you logged in as root
when you do this? (Your prompt should end with a "#"). If so, maybe all
you need to do is reset the user passwd with "passwd user". Then reboot
and try to login. If that works, make sure to backup your VMs.

 So, now my solution is:

qvm-block to list, then qvm-block attach archives sys-usb:#.#
Not sure how to figure out where it's mounted at this point. Anyone have a
suggestion? You need to know to fill in /path/to/backupfileinbackupvm.

Is this a laptop? Are you on Qubes 3.x or 4.x?

My USB keyboard has never worked for initial drive decryption. I have to use
the built-in laptop keyboard for that. I always assumed it was a security

Re: [qubes-users] Librem 13v2: Qubes 4.0 stuck at loading the desktop

2018-05-21 Thread Thib
Finally when I enter ctrl+alt+F2 at the user-password area I can login with the
dom0 terminal! So, now my solution is:
- to launch my VM "archives"
- to attach my external drive "SAMSUNG" to "archives"
- to backup my VMs into "SAMSUNG" via "archives" with the backup-tool of Qubes
Manager

But I'm unsure: I need to know how to use the terminal to do all of that...
I'm reading the docs on the website to learn how to do but maybe someone is
already familiar with the process, and could show me what I can write in the
dom0 terminal?

Thank you ! Get 'em :) Finaly installed fedora-28, whonix-14 and buster.

Need to fix

https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/template/fedora/upgrade-27-to-28/

"-x python2-xcffib -x qubes-gui-vm -x qubes-gui-agent" to
"-x python2-xcffib -x qubes-gui-vm -x qubes-gui-agent -x dconf"
