[qubes-users] Re: MAC Address Anonymization and NetworkManager Compatibility
The easy way would be to install the Network-Manager and set the Cloned Mac Address to Random, or you can also change it per Script with Macchanger You can try sudo apt remove NetworkManager sudo apt update sudo apt install NetworkManager sudo apt upgrade --fix-missing It works fine here -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] MAC Address Anonymization and NetworkManager Compatibility
I have recently set up a vpn gateway qube according to the instructions as listed [here](https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/vpn/). I have now gone to set up the MAC Anonymization and have a question and a problem both. Firstly the linked page wrote specifically not to include the network manager. But at the same time the page on anonymizing the MAC address says that you must begin by installing the network manager. Is this safe to do? The second is that I only have NetworkManager 1.16.4. [qubes-users] Error attemtping to reinstall Debian 10 templateVM
All, This is interesting. My original installation of Qubes had Debian 9. I upgraded it to Debian 10 following the Qubes documentation. No issues at all. In learning and working with Qubes I found I needed more drive space, so I deleted Debian. Having installed secondary storage for AppVMs and moving some over to it, I can reinstall a Debian 10 templateVM. Except now it won't. Specifically, I issue the " $ sudo qubes-dom0-update qubes-template-debian-10 " and I get red lettering and "error could not delete old database at /var/lib/qubes/dom0-updates/home/user/.rpmold." where changes if I repeat the command and that error appears. Other times I get red lettering without that specific error and (via sys-whonix) it downloads the info it needs and then I get "No Match for argument qubes-template-debian-10 nothing to download". If I try " $ sudo qubes-dom0-update qubes-template-debian-9 " - same thing "No Match for argument qubes-template-debian-9 nothing to download". My backups don't have any version of a Debian templateVM (grrr). A fresh install is plan B, but some insight would be educational. Thanks! [qubes-users] ANN: Wyng beta, a fast incremental backup tool
Hello Qubers, 'Wyng' is a backup program I've been working on for a while that can quickly backup "thin LVM" storage, the kind Qubes uses by default: Link - https://github.com/tasket/wyng-backup Some ideas behind Wyng are: * Backups shouldn't require re-scanning all data to find changes. * Ability to push new backups to an archive indefinitely on a frequent basis. * Low exposure to risk for admin VMs like dom0. * No special matching filesystem (Btrfs, ZFS, LVM, etc.) needed to store the backup copy. The intent is to enable similar use cases as OS X Time Machine does (frequent, convenient backups) but for Linux and Qubes. Wyng runs in the admin VM and deals with data volumes such as "vm-personal-private" or "vm-fedora-30-root" at the block level. I should point out that version 0.2 does not have a concept of backing up and restoring whole Qubes VMs, as it doesn't process VM settings. If you do not have many specific custom VM settings, this shouldn't be an obstacle. However, Wyng does have special Qubes transport modes that allow backing up data from dom0 to wherever via a VM. The README at the above link has more info about Wyng's capabilities, command line examples and the current beta testing status. If you have questions, feel free to post here. -- Chris Laprise, tas...@posteo.net https://github.com/tasket https://twitter.com/ttaskett PGP: BEE2 20C5 356E 764A 73EB 4AB3 1DC4 D106 F07F 1886 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. How to change the keys for secure copy and paste between VM’s ? I have tried to change the keys in this file: etc/qubes/guid.conf to Ctrl + Alt + C and Crtl + Alt + V But that didn’t work. A message pops up saying that the domain is started, but I can’t see a window where Windows 10 is starting up. Re: [qubes-users] How to setup Win10 HVM ?
A way to download Windows 10 Pro manually and install it. I haven’t managed to download Windows 10 Pro by using the file “download-windows.sh”. So instead I downloaded Windows 10 Pro manually and ran the script afterwards. You can follow these steps to do it the same way as I did it: 1) Open the “Qube Settings” for the domain “windows-mgmt”. Under “Network”, choose “default” one and click on “Apply”. 2) Open the domains Firefox browser and search the web for “how to download windows 10”. One of the first results is a link to a Microsoft webpage from which it is possible to download the file in the local language. The file gets downloaded to the download folder in the domain. 3) Open the “Qube Settings” for the domain “windows-mgmt”. Under “Network”, choose “(none)” and click on “Apply”. 4) Move or copy the file to this destination: /Documents/qvm-create-windows-qube/windows-media/isos 5) Open the terminal in dom0 and execute the following script (remember to write the name of the iso file you downloaded in step 2 instead of “filename”): ./qvm-create-windows-qube.sh -n sys-whonix -oyw -i filename.iso -a win10x64-pro.xml anon-win10 Info: anon-win10 will be the name of the domain. I don’t know if it is possible to change the domain name without spoiling anything. Do not close the terminal before it says the installation was complete (successfully) ! Let the terminal do the job, it restarts the qube and so on when it is necessary. When I got into Windows there appeared three message boxes. One saying that the pc has to be restarted. A second one saying that drive D has to be formatted. And the third one saying something about a private drive as far as I recall. I started to click OK, I think on the third messaged, and then Windows immediately closed and restarted and seemed to run fine afterwards. And in the terminal it said the installation was completed successfully. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] No boot after dom0 kernel update
On 2/24/20 7:17 PM, ncmy...@gmail.com wrote: Thank you for your kind attention. I want to make clear that in each case, the new kernel has worked fine once I persuaded my BIOS to boot it. The problem is always that, after each kernel upgrade, the BIOS no longer recognizes any bootable partition, not even listing the drive among its boot options. Unmounting before fsck is the standard process, but I wonder why and how the dom0 kernel upgrade script leaves the boot partition in a state that the BIOS will not boot. I am far from certain that the fsck.vfat was what restored bootability, but something did. On Monday, February 24, 2020 at 1:58:48 PM UTC-5, Andrey Arapov wrote: Is there a way to get reliable booting after a dom0 kernel update? I am afraid that there is no such way as the new Linux kernel adds new features, changes the current ones, which are unlikely were thoroughly tested (or if tested at all) for the whole range of HW out there or their combinations. Whenever you are upgrading the SW, be it a Linux kernel or any other software, you should always expect things can go wrong. The good news is that you can always rollback and contribute to the FOSS by reporting the issue. Do I need to unmount my /boot partition and fsck.vfat it before rebooting? You should always unmount the mount point before fsck'ing any filesystem. Kind regards, Andrey Arapov If your boot partition needs fsck'ing after something writes to it (like a Qubes update), then it seems that the partition needs to be fixed. Probably best to rebuild it if you know how. Mike. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group.
