Obviously, it is frustrating to not have your bike. Doubly so if it's
sitting somewhere waiting to be painted.
But, if I understand the scenario so far, Rivendell is repairing the frame
for free and is having it repainted. They've also offered a replacement
bike. Is that a loaner until it's
Bowmore is nice. I've only drunk a few bottles of Laphroaig, but each one
tasted different. I've had a couple bottles of the Trader Joe's Finlaggan,
and it makes me giddy. Tasty, mysterious, and $20.

I stirred the Tektro caliper and lever idea for a while to open up the
clearances on my Rambouillet for more tire and fender room. In the meantime
I had collected some Continental Gatorskin 700x32 (actually 29mm on
Velocity Synergy rims) tires on clearance from the local REI

I love drops. I have drop bars on all my bikes. I run 'em high on the
Bombadil, and run 'em low on my new lightweight rando bike. I run them in
between on the other bikes, including my Hilsen. Drops are where it's at,
for me. If I ever get around to a Betty Foy build, it also will be with

A timely post. On Saturday I changed from Noodles to Albatross bars. Did a
300 plus mile tour with the drops and felt something was missing. So...on
went the Albatross bars. First ride using them was yesterday. Did about 40
miles. So far I really like them here is why:

out that Rivendell is not in the business of repairing frames. This task
is out of the normal order of things for them, they are at the mercy of two
subcontractors who each have their own pipeline of work and

I should add that the main technique I've learned from Grant on climbing
hills, I learned from chapter 4 of Just Ride. Works great for loaded
touring bikes, though with my vertigo, it took me a year to get rather than

Albas and M-bars are great, but lack that extra position in the drops
that I find necessary on longer rides (3 hrs). Yes there are multiple
hand positions on those bars, but they're on the same plane, so my
arm, neck and shoulder muscles don't get enough change in the ride to
be most comfortable.
It's just two, so I'll let them know. They're both Riv-Ride alums, so
should be grand-fathered in!
