If you are going to be bar end friction shifting I recommend 7- or 8- speed cassettes. Less autoshifting. I run 7-speed cassettes on both my Rivendells. I went from brifters to bar ends and I loved bar ends at first shift. For some reason I find them more fun to use than brifters. Perhaps it

It's amazing how much different something as minor as the location of the clamp bolt on a set of brake levers can make to the feel (comfort) of a ride. One reason I love the Tektro FL540 levels that until quite recently, Riv sold. The mounting bolt was unobtrusive and out of the way. I

The new brakes feel much better in my hand, but the stock ones stopped the bike just fine. The biggest single improvement was the brake housing. I tried re-using the stock housing, and the rear brake was still "pretty darn squishy", more squishy than I was willing to tolerate from XTR.

Its going to be easiest to take off your entire crankset, the 'hidden' bolt is really just on the back side. For one tooth difference you shouldn't have to readjust the FD, the ring will be nominally the same size. Do make sure your chain isn't too worn either. So, take the drive side crank

I have a nice torque wrench, so I use it on BB and cranks. When I've gone back and checked, I've never had a relaxed crank bolt. Keep up with chainring bolt tightness, though... So far, the only chainring bolts that have never become loose on me were factory-torqued Campy. -- You received
