That's a beautiful bike, and I know that exact spot. You did quite a ride!

I have the same racks on a Soma Saga. Yes, they’re overkill, but I also don’t
have the heart to remove them. The front one basically holds the headlight in
place, which is over-engineering to the Nth degree.

Did YOU buy that tres bitchin Riv Road that Chris was selling?

I just saw the Jandd one today and it looks pretty close...and more
affordable. My intention is for an on-bike camera bag and I think the

Thanks for the write-up and photos! I was just at the Green Lizard a few
hours ago (it's my local bike shop). Yes, the W is a great trail to have
nearby. It was my primary commuting route for about 7 years, so I've seen
it in all seasons, all weather. I haven't yet done the W + C loop

I know sand like you know snow, Patrick. Grin. So I’ve no idea how to answer
your question. And snow dept varies depending on density and age and freeze
thaw cycles, all of which can vary every foot or two on a trail. But my 20 mile
staple ride in snow in winter is like a 40 mile ride in
Thanks. All this is grist for the mental mill. I realized after reading
your reply that my interest in comparing different crank lengths implies
the ability to use different gear ratios, so at least your reply cleared

Those look nice. I'll have to keep Randi Jo in mind when my present stock

Thanks for the info.
Ranji Jo Linen, natural, large it is.
The wide brim and more normal look of the cap appeals to me.
Hopefully it will work out great.
Right now I only have an Ibex wool cap. It is fantastic in cold weather and
heat so far.
But I think I will like the Ranjo Jo as it appears
Hey Patrick,
Others have more years experience with fixed gear trail riding than I do, so
you may want to widen your question to include them?

Patrick: You've gained a lot more fixed gear experience in dirt/rough/high
torque conditions than I have -- almost all my fixed riding has been on
pavement, apart from a brief trial with a fixed mountain bike some 10 years
ago.
Questions: What crank length do you favor?
Do you find that a longer
Tell me about it!! And where? I had everything so organized but then have

I’ve recently noticed that Apple’s Mail apps (on computer and mobile devices)
has recently started sending many (most?) messages from this list to a Junk

post goes to junk, but the replies to the list come through.

I think it is better to size up with the stock sizes of Randi Jo caps if you
are right on the limits. Caps never seem to get larger with time. They stay
true to size trough careful hand washing or will shrink a tiny bit over time
washing in the cold/wool/delicate cycle, or a fair bit if you
