Did you use the Pletscher stays with the Nitto stay bolts or did you use
Nitto stays? Can you provide a close picture of the rack and the stays?
Really a nice concept and execution.
I have 3 old Pletscher racks and would love to try this on one of them.
What model did you modify?
Lot of interest, but bike is still available. Price adjustment - Complete
bike minus Outershell basket bag, saddle, and pedals - $2075 plus bike

For the rear rack, I drilled out the riveted stays on the Pletscher, enlarged
the holes a touch, and the Nitto stay bolt thingies made the job easy. I also
drilled a hole in the middle of the bracket at the bridge. The frame has a flat
there, so no need for a concave bridge washer. The rack is
I seem to recall a Brompton being listed on this forum for sale. Not very
Rivendell. (I own 2 of them). I personally enjoy seeing cool bikes come up

Hey all,
As the title says, I'm looking for one of these (RIGHT SIDE ONLY) in decent

Please PM me if you have one available and name your $ amount.
Thank you!

Until the new Silvers are available, here are some from IRD via Soma. Riv is

If those don’t fit the bill, I’ve had success with older Shimano thumbshifters

I am interested. I have a coupon from Schwalbe for a replacement of any tire.
Would you be interested in a straight across trade? Essentially, I would just
have the tire shipped to you instead of me.

I've got a set of these with 400 miles on them (standard, tan) that I'll
sell for $80 shipped (conus) if you're interested. That's the cost of one
new one plus shipping.
Good shape, no flats, may need some soap and water on the tan sidewalls.

Interestingly, at about 5'10" my 73.5cm or so saddle height is representrf in
all four sizes. Obviously the small and xl being outliers. More to come on this.

Very nice, especially the rear rack. Can you explain what you did to the
rack other than remove the spring trap. I see you bolted the curved end
into the brake bridge. What about the stays?

Brilliant, Marty! Absolutely brilliant! I love that rear rack. Suave.

Put it on the Paceline forum as well - perfect material for that place.
Cool bike.

With reluctance, I am downsizing my bike fleet, sticking with my Clem,
Redwood, and adding a folding bike to complement my train commutes.
I'm finally getting around to selling a 62cm Trek 850 with great reluctance
as well (apologies if you've inquired about that one and I never responded).
As others have mentioned, the Vermonter (DC to St. Albans, VT, via NYC)
does allow bikes on board without the need to box them up -- they've
modified the luggage nook of a regular coach on that train so that the
bike's rear wheel is hung from a hook. Getting your bike on board through a

I had always wondered about one-tube-thickness-fits-all aspect. My frame
size (46cm App/50cm Atlantis) being inherently stronger due to shorter
tubes, isn't it over-built (and too rigid) compared to a 60cm frame if the
same tubing is used? Besides, the rider + load (160 + no more than 20lbs
