I've used both Marathon Mondials and Supremes. Both are long wearing & flat resistance. The Supremes are a bit lighter & quicker on pavement, and the Mondials have better grip on loose surfaces. Both are great touring tires if you ride both pavement & dirt roads. Can't go wrong with Schwalbe,

Jason, I find your hypothesis to be the most plausible one yet. I think most of us will concede that the perception of a bike being fast is a subjective thing. It comes down to a bit of magic occurring between the rider and the bike and I'd say you have put your finger on what that magic is.

My two hypotheses are 1) the frame stiffness is perfectly matched to your power output at optimal cadence, so you do get that energy return known as planing and/or 2) the fit is perfectly matched to your biomechanics, which I believe can be sensitive enough that even a bike with similar numbers

My annual goals for the past for the past 7 years, going into the 8th have been Simple, Measurable, and Achievable - except I missed it in 2023 by about 70 miles due to filling a cancellation spot for hernia repair 12/26. I do have my High goal (6,000 miles) vs my Minimum goal (5,000 miles).
