I've owned both, and wrestled with the same question. I kept my Sam and
sold my BMC. The monstercross has faster, CX-style steering to me, so it

Thanks for all the input folks, it's given me plenty to think on. I did have a
hard tail (too small) for a while and ventured out on the Austin trails, some
of which are indeed a little too interesting for my taste.
The idea of a new wheelset for the Sam is a good one (cheaper than a new bike,

It looks to me as though the nose piece is at the wrong angle, probably
from new. As have a lot of people on this list, I have seen some pretty
well worn and abused Brooks saddles, but never any like that. I agree with

Wow! A super sized Kick Starter campaign. Too bad my wife and I just bought

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. I'll start with a longer wrench, grease,
cleaning the surfaces, then go to lock tite. Unfortunately, my neighborhood
has no tool rental places that stock gorillas. I'll need to do some
research on that. :-)

Thanks all for the feedback. If I can find a new head for one of the pumps
that I have, that should fix the "grip" problem. If not, then I think I'll
just swap out the tubes for ones that have threaded stems. Sheesh!
