I don't think anybody had mentioned this. Perhaps it's new? If you don't want to use the Pletscher Clem rack, this seems like a no-brainer, to me. Designed with an extended top deck and geometry specifically meant to shift weight forward, on long-chainstay models including the Cheviot,

That Haulin Colin porteur rack does seem pretty sweet. Joe, have you mounted one of these? There doesn't seem to be a lot of flexibility to accommodate any minor differences in frame geometry. It either fits or it don't, eh? On Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 2:09:12 PM UTC-5, joe b. wrote:

My understanding is that the upper fork mounts are a standard distance from the fork crown hole. Meaning, it will fit, but the angle that the rack sits will vary slightly due to head tube angle. I'm hoping to get a Haulin' Colin when the next batch is ready. David Chicago On Wednesday, November

Tim, the Soma struts are angle adjustable , so they are fine. The Surly is also adjustable but in a different way . From the photo here https://recklesscognition.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/front-fender-full.jpg it appears it would work , but I cannot say for certain . The top fork braze

I'd go for the porteur rack myself . Baskets are fine for light stuff , but if you really want to carry some beer and weighty stuff on a regular basis get a porteur for the porter ! With the Soma you can still add some small bags or attach stuff on the side too without interfering with

Wayne, as for the link, I wouldn't count on the photo as being absolute . As always, a call or email to confirm it is indeed the current model w/struts is all that is needed. I see other websites of this rack using old photos as well, btw. As far as the trail of fork in regards to a

The nice thing about the long wheelbase is it puts the rear rack well away from your thighs. On my daughter's first full-size bike (China motobecane from Dallas warehouse), I mounted a Tubus Vega with very long stays

I use a front porteur type carrier with a big Wald on a high trail bicycle. I originally got it when I put my daughter in a seat on the rear rack, and couldn't use my rear rack, or a backpack because it was in her face. I have a longish bicycle, though not Clem long. It works fine. I have even

As an observer of the bike , with a long front-center it seems to scream "front rack" . It would help out the weight balance overall front-rear. A porteur would be great ! I'd chose the Soma Deluxe SS over the VO as the Soma has the added fork struts for stabilization. I've seen it

I was wondering that too Wayne. In looking at the most recent photos on the blug it appears they've added a lower braze-on a couple inches north of the dropout which I assume would work for a rack stay. This would effectively bring the rack inboard, accounting for the longer stays. Not sure
