All this yes.
Nine speed is where I've been for a long time, and just jumped to 11sp on
some bikes. Larger 11sp cassettes fit on 9sp (8/9/10) hubs, because the
biggest cog is dished. You'll be fine for a long time. 10sp doesn't offer
me anything, but 11sp cassettes are actually nice. I like

On the hub question, 8/9/10 speed cassettes all fit the same hubs. With
the amount of 9 & 10 speed stuff around, those hubs will be useful for a
long time.
As to the number of cogs, based on your experience with 10 speed you may
want to stick to 8 or 9. 6/7/8 all take the same chain, and 9
When Shimano went to 10-speed on road and MTB, they kept the pull ratio the

I seem to recall - but can't find the reference - that Shimano cable pulls
for road/MTB rear derailleurs/shifters were incompatible starting with the

Ok thanks for this everyone. At least I can now tell myself I wasn’t

You can even get 8sp 11-40 cassettes. Great for offroading, I think. I
rarely want small gaps but prefer the bigger jumps with grunting up a hill.

Definitely a case of shifter/derailleur mismatch. You need either the
Microshift Thumbie in black, a 10 speed mountain shifter or a Tanpan

Friction is simplest
Tanpan is lowest barrier to indexing
Microshift Thumbie is most

Over the years, I've had at least three cases of rear derailer misalignment
that fouled up my shifting. Your LBS has the right tool to check for that.

Interesting. That could be it. I bought the derailleur, unused, off this list

8/9/10 hubs are very common, and a lot of 11-speed hubs come with a spacer you
slide on first, then an 8/9/10 cassette. So I'd say go ahead and get your
wheels and 8-speed cassette, my guess is the it'll be many years before you
have to abandon those gears.

It uses a proprietary cable pull ratio according to pinkbike - ties you

As stated in the original post, it measures 56cm CENTER TO TOP of the seat

the geometry but it’s going to be different than a stock Ram.

Word from the grapevine is it's 55cm center-to-top-of-toptube. The 56 number -
maybe Della Santa sized it that way - is to the actual top of the seattube,
which is visibly a centimeter taller than the toptube.

It has a "56" engraved/stamped in the BB shell, I suspect that is a C-T
measurement and I'm also pretty sure the RRS had a slight upslope in the TT
as well. Remember, this is a custom. GP wouldn't do anything too weird,
but it could have a shorter TT than standard RBW geometry. I'm pretty sure
