Hmmm... the Aug28 SampleOne may or may not have the dropout, from my
reading of the text in the PDF. He was reviewing SimpleOnes generally,
not describing the one in the brochure per se. But in any case, I'm
not *sure* what the dropout is like on the 56 that's been for sale for
a while. I just
Hi Bruce,
Michelin XCR Road tires are 26x1.4 or 35mm, and run about 36mm wide
on Sun CR18 and Mavic 317 disc rims. The folding version has a 66TPI
casing, and they are light and supple. Have held up well on a 2 week
tandem tour and 2 years of local use. May not be available in the US

Hi folks

I want to give these pants a try but would prefer to buy used as a
trial before investing in some new ones. I am not really sure they
will work for me.
Anyone have a pair in small they would like to part with? As long as
they don't have holes in the crotch condition is not really too
important.
I'm with you on most of that.I'd love a Simple One if the
tubing were thick enough (similar to the Hillborne) I have all the
parts for one except for the wheels. While not a fan of cantilever
brakes they would suffice. I also wouldn't mind something like a

I've used both and prefer the Clark. It packs small (into a shoebox in
fact) and offers more room than the Hennessy. The clak is about $100
more but for that you get a true three season hammock with the ability
to go to four seasons. If you want to hammock camp, just be sure there

The stock bb and XD2 on my Sam Hill had a Q of just about 160 mm

pedals, with their relatively wide platform and relatively wide gap
between arm and cage, made the Q unwieldy). Fortunately, the same bb

Andrew, ITB pain sucks! I'm slowly digging out of my ITB pain cave. I
think your cranks may be too long. 175 on a MTB with varied speed and
revolutions is different than a constant spin on the road That's what I
found out for myself.
What I did: lowered saddle by 3-5mm, moved EXCLUSIVELY to

I was a bit skeptical at first, but I was not only able to set up two
different handlebar configurations with DaVinci splitters, I was able
to swap bars in 5 minutes, 41 seconds on the first try... This is
really sweet. I'm doing a long ride tomorrow, and prefer to run the

I suggest that you try one, if you can, before you buy.

I'll add my plaintive whine to this thread: John and Ryan are quite
right. I've owned a couple early to mid '80s mountain bikes and they
are royal dogs for most riding; perhaps they have their advantages but
I've not been in a situation to discover them.
OTOH, the early '90s Stumpjumpers -- I

Specialized BG shoes. The have a varus wedge that cants your foot
slightly. This is intended to put your knee in a neutral position.
This made my recurring knee pain disappear.
Orthotics were recommended (as well as a professional fitting) but I haven't

I'm sure you know this, but to summarize, tread depends on model of crank
and bottom bracket width, which in turn is dependent on clearance at the
chain stays. What I can say from my experience is that the narrowest tread
can be had with a TA Pro 5 Vis or VO Grand Cru crank providing the chain
I picked up the 58 this morning and they have the Quickbeam dropouts.
Now I have to decide which components to use for the build.
