+1 for Rivendell Grip King pedals AND spikes. I found that my shoes were

I second Steve's thoughts on the GKs. They can be a bit slippery when wet,

plastic pieces on my 56 Rambouillet. What I did was make sure that the bolt

Take a look at the crankset teeth (from both sides) and the cassette cogs
for wear. Drivetrains can be expensive to replace.
Check that the derailer is not bent.
Make sure seatpost and stem are movable in their respective tubes and not
frozen. Though I doubt they would be on a year old bike.
