[RBW] How to free up an RBW bottle nozzle that is stuck???

2018-05-10 Thread Lum Gim Fong
My bottle is a few years olde. Clear plastic/green logo vintage.
But I’ve cleaned it carefully after uses, flushing the nozzle so no (horrors!)
sugars from (gasp!) sports drinks collect and gum up the nozzle works.

Yet, as it has aged, I find the nozzle less responsive to the push and tugs of
me front teeth, to their chagrin and pain. Bottle hurts the front tooth now
after use. I don’t want to toss it as it is a nice bottle. Not looking to push
out my teeth either. It is a 32(?)oz., I think, which qualifies it as a flagon,
or tankard, not sure which.

Anything I can do to get the nozzle back to its easy gliding and responsive
action of yesteryear?

Any companies sell squirt tops that would work with the bottle so as not to
stress the ivories any more?

Thanks to all of you. That’s a great thing to have accessible. Next: the coffee
table book!

Apropos of nothing, except that I forgot about it until just now - in the
elevator this morning, a guy asked about the Biketinkers Union patch on my
Brand V grabsack (purse). I said, “Oh that’s my thing. I like to tinker with
bikes, modify them, make them better, or more like I like them. I made these
patches and I sell them to my friends.”
He said, “Oh, are you into like Rivendell?”
I said, “Oh yeah. Pretty deep into Rivendell. That was a good guess!” And then
it was his floor.

I'd be willing to bet that the fork takes a standard 100mm QR wheel. The

The BMC Road Plus looks like it will have toe-overlap in my size. That's a

Re: [RBW] Re: Atlantis tires rec request

2018-05-10 Thread Tim Butterfield
Thanks, Laing. I was thinking not just of the initial pair, but of
potentially having to replace a single tire several years down the road.
But, I guess I could always just get another matched pair. It's just
money. Not likely to be a real issue, though.

Re: [RBW] Bags for Hub Area Racks

2018-05-10 Thread Coal Bee Rye Anne
Thanks Howard and Thanks Joe. Now it's just a matter of digging the OYB
bags out of the closet and checking their hook spacing. HARacks are one of
the items on my shortlist/wishlist and would be partially offset by a
hailmary and remaining CFKAR (credit formerly known as Rivendollars.) With
HABags now gone and only available 2nd hand I've hesitated to order the
rack implusively only to have it sit until I could score a set of bags.
But after having recently acquired my first Sackville item (Grabsack as a
gift for my significant other) I think I'd happily wait for HABags to come
up for sale even if the OYB's didn't work out. Still need to work through
a few things to justify the expense aside from my remaining credits
anyway so hopefully the racks are still available when I'm finally ready.

[RBW] Re: Is the Surly Bridge Club a Disc-braked Hunqapillar?

2018-05-10 Thread 'Chris Lampe 2' via RBW Owners Bunch
The Radavist just unveiled a new Crust bike, the Bombora (yeah, the name

bi-plane fork. There is no real information other than a few photos but
this bike might factor into a Hunqapillar/Bridge Club discussion. It
looks like it's specifically designed for drop bars.

Both discontinued. Riv is cutting way back on projects that are kinda creative
and interesting, but don't seem to sell. I presume Grant is tired of hearing
that his stuff is nifty, but "golly gosh it's so expensive!"

[RBW] Re: Canti Sam Hillborne: No Cable Hangers

2018-05-10 Thread d2mini
I'm with you... I am not a fan of V-brakes at all as far as aesthetics go.
Looks like someone ran out of brakes and slapped on a mountain bike part
they had laying around the garage.
Canti's or standard road brakes for me. :)
Then again, I don't do heavy loaded touring where every ounce of brake
performance makes a difference.

[RBW] Re: Banana sax reviews needed. Stuff fall out?

2018-05-10 Thread Grant @ Rivendell
It''s not for carrying loose gold dust or diamonds, but the Banana sack is
secure and adaptable to any load. There's a sleeve pocket for a phone, and
a stiffener opposite that, and you can put skinny jangly things in with the
stiffener, to secure them. If I have any doubts I just wad up a bandana and
put it on top and close the sideflap things. I've forgotten to toggle it
closed and even then, front or rear mount, nothing's fallen out. All that
said, it's still probably best to say "It's more secure than a general
pants pocket" and leave it at that!

[RBW] Re: Hubbuhubbuh wheelset specs

Yes, to the rear disc, the drag brake benefits cannot be overstated.
Blowing 1 tire once (i have, but on another tandem)will make you a
drag brake believer.

Re: [RBW] Bags for Hub Area Racks

2018-05-10 Thread Coal Bee Rye Anne
As a related question... anyone have a measurement of the length of useable
upper rail for the HAR? Between the stops/tabs and/or hoop? I have a
pair of Jeff Potter's OYB Retro Panniers I briefly used on a Surly front
rack but wondering if the hooks would fit the spacing of the HAR. I've
since traded away the Surly rack for other parts of interest and haven't
been using a pannier rack otherwise. I have two forks a HAR should work
with (one is on my Clem) and a 32f mini front rack to pair it all with so I
could add a basket up top and the OYB panniers below.

Thanks,

[RBW] Clem-L, Bosco handlebars: where to put the bell?

2018-05-10 Thread Rod Holland
I've ordered a 45cm Clem-L for my consort, which rumor has it should be
delivered one of these first days. This is the stock build with Bosco bars.
Question to those with Bosco experience: what's a good place to mount a
bell in that style cockpit? This will be a Crane Suzue
, so it will be loud if she
can reach it... Most of my experience configuring cockpits has been with
drops or flat bars, I don't have a good sense of hand positions on Boscos.

Thanks,

rod
