A surprise resolution to this thread! I just ordered the blue 59 Frank
Jones Sr that went on the 'web specials' today. That's the Rivendell single
speed frame I actually wanted when I got this Quickbeam. Very excited!
This also means I'll have a very nice condition 60cm green Quickbeam for
sale.
Thank you all for all the detailed recommendations and thoughts! Tough
decisions on this little but important aspect of the build. :)
Bill: thanks for cautioning the M12 with those brake types. I wonder if I
could mabe get it to work by 'cold setting' the rack like so?
Or we could start a similar gathering in San Francisco. Stow Lake?

I rode the 60cm Cheviot yesterday for a short spin (Esteban: I must've just

Nice report, Esteban. It was a great ride, and it was nice to pedal
along with other first time randonneurs! :) I'm glad you took photos,
since I couldn't find my camera that morning while busily packing my
boxy bag full of food and rushing off to the bridge in the early
morning darkness.

You're probably thinking of S24O, short for Sub-24 Hour Overnight.
Here's a nice primer:

Larry, can you comment as to the ride quality and flat-ability
differences between the Ruffy Tuffy and the Cypress? I'm currently
considering between the two and haven't read any head-on comparisons

Speaking of, yesterday I did a beautiful ride on my Romulus from San

Thanks to Ray for the Sawyer Camp Trail recommendation, it was just awesome!
Apparently it's often very busy but it was fairly empty on Christmas Eve. :)
And if you're in the bay area, Box Dog Bikes in SF sells these nutted
brakes at a better price than VO does ($20 cheaper IIRC).

I had to shelve the Hetres on a 650B conversion ('84 58cm Sequoia) in
order to add fenders. The VO Zeppelins didn't fit (too wide for the

Ray, thanks so much for these routes! I'll definitely put them to use.
I don't think there's a problem with the list: my email to you was off

That's a great story and bike, Manny.
The ghetto light mount reminded me of a question I've been meaning to
ask this list: has anyone found a nice battery powered light that
elegantly mounts to the front center of a Mark's Rack?
I know I could rig up a handlebar light to the side of the
Thanks, Rene. That is interesting, but what I'm hoping for is a classy
