I am going to send a deposit on a SO. After having to sell my QB a couple years ago I am missing that bike soo much. [RBW] Re: Hunqa and SO update on Riv site!
According to my conversation with RBW, the Bombadil with the diagonal tubes (full length to the dropouts) will carry a slight price increase to offset the tubing and funky lugwork (can't wait to see that). The double TT version of the Bomba is apparently no longer being made (bummer, I really like that). [RBW] Re: Hunqa and SO update on Riv site!
I can see that argument, but a Phil Wood rear hub dishes the wheel quite a bit in back. So not sure a disc wheel is inherently weaker. The Hunqa is too much of a personal issue for me to comment objectively. But my initial impression has not changed. The Simple-One does look nice. Actually sort of like the mismatched look of the crank/rear hub. Then again, am known for having parts not match on my bikes, so it's more a sin of the owner. Nothing wrong with discs, probably even better for loaded descents (heat), but weaker wheels and over-built forks don't intrigue me too much. V-brakes really stop pretty darn good. I'm mostly interested in the Andel cranks. The logo will likely be removable by grade steel wool(ultrafine). I'm trying to get some of these in a 110/74 , but no one in the USA sells them except maybe Gaerlan Cycles, which sells some similar looking under the Vuelta brand name. Or you have to buy a complete LHT to get some!! http://www.gaerlan.com/bikeparts/parts/crank/crank.html http://www.andel.com.tw/products/products_list.php?language=_engcid=18up_cid=11 I'm liking these cranks because of the standard 5 bolt design, as opposed to the hidden 5th crank bolt design. [RBW] Re: Hunqa and SO update on Riv site!
Disc brakes come with good and bad, I have been an advocate, but I think the dishing of the wheels from the left side opens up greater inherent weaknesses. If the canti brakes are not enough, or the flex in the stays is a bit much you can always throw a booster arch on it. It is not like you could overbuild the thing any more. The simple one does seem good in concept, it will be interesting to see where the price falls for tiwan stuff, makes me regret not grabbing a quickbean in any color, kept hoping something better than silver would be next. Re: [RBW] Re: Hunqa and SO update on Riv site!
Hey Ian, great to hear you have one in route! I'm 6ft, and thinking the 54 would be best, especially if the TT is a bit longer than originally planned (that was a mentioned change). The 58 gives long enough reach and ability to get the bars up real high, but would have very minimal stand-over which I need for those off-camber trail dabs! Plus the 54 doesn't have the horizontal tube, which isn't terrible, just unnecessary for me. So yeah, post away when you get it, it'll be great to see! Thanks! Re: [RBW] Re: Hunqa and SO update on Riv site!
Agreed. Nothing wrong with discs, probably even better for loaded descents (heat), but weaker wheels and over-built forks don't intrigue me too much. V-brakes really stop pretty darn good. So do cantis for that matter! :-) On Fri, Aug 27, 2010 at 9:04 PM, rperks perks@gmail.com wrote: Disc brakes come with good and bad, I have been an advocate, but I think the dishing of the wheels from the left side opens up greater inherent weaknesses.
