[RBW] Re: Roadini Gray vs Blue?

2017-08-06 Thread Arthur Mayfield
I've had a blue Sam for several years, and it's a pretty, unique shade with
cream accents, but I found coordinating other pieces to it to be
challenging. I ended up with everything else either bright silver, black,
or dark gray/titanium gray. I tried cream SKS fenders, but they seemed a
bit too faddish/city bike for my tastes. If I had the choice, I'd go with
the gray Roadini and leave my options open for coordinating cable housing
and other parts and accessories.

Funny you should say that, Bob..the Romulus connection is also why I like the
blue Roadini. I've mentioned here that I don't get attached to bicycles,
preferring to ride a while, then move on to another. The one bicycle I really
miss is my first new Riv, a Romulus. It was realistically a bit big for me at
its smallest size, 55cm, and would be laughably too tall to get a leg over now,
but I'd buy it back if I could.

Kinda what I was thinking. But a dark red/maroon. Dark blue would look
nice too. The light blue of the roadini seems like you're stuck with black
or silver, maybe brown saddle and/or bar tape.

I was too lazy to trek down to WC this weekend to see the colors in person.
The blue also reminds me of the tiburon blue soma san marcos. Most
examples I've seen people stick with silver/black maybe a little brown. IMO
Below the first setup looks better.

[RBW] Re: Roadini Gray vs Blue?

2017-08-05 Thread Bob Lovejoy
I truly love the look of the silver/grey Riv's and have voted with my $$
(Cheviot and Joe). But I would go with the blue though I readily admit
that would not be truly objective. It's just that the blue so reminds me
of my Romulus which I miss! The top of my list of bikes I should have kept
forever, maybe the only bike on that list.

That said, I have not seen a Roadini in person and I wonder if the blue is
more Romulus or more Bleriot? Or neither?? I also like the "cream" head
tubes on some of the other silver Riv's (missing on the Roadini?). Without
that, the silver/grey can get lost a bit, though that's only a random
thought.

One thing to do is to look for pictures of previous blue Romulus or Bleriot
builds (whichever color seems closer).

Saw this picture for compare/contrast:
