I am using the x-Kernel daemon to add support for my Ethernet card. I am
asked to provide an address. To do this, I queried my card using it's
supplied software, anyone know how to either read it's card address or
convert the address from what I got from the program as it's address:
00 A0 76
Boy, I feel silly then. Yes, I've been through many of the HOWTO's on
usr/docs/HOWTO and guess still don't quite get it...
How would you recommend doing this using Ethernet..? Is there a specific
HOWTO addressing this situation? In that case then, what is the IP address
going to be set at?
What's the rpm that should be installed for pop3? I just checked my
inetd.conf and pop3 lines aren't commented out yet I can't telnet to the
pop3 port (as seen in an earlier posting).

Hi everyone,
I'm going to pull down my liux box and make a few modifications and then
reinstall from scratch.
The harddrives I have are mostly SCSI with an IDE drive.
What I would like to hear is what the more seasoned players suggest for
mounting the partitions and where.
The drives are:

You might already have the answer to this, but check the .bashrc file and
you will find that an alias has been setup with the -i option. No doubt to
protect us newbies.. :)

Hi Everyone,
I'm telnetting from the win95 machine using the win95 telnet client,
needless to say that it's ugly, but I'm having a problem with setting the
screen length. Mainly, I have no idea just where to set it up. The other
thing to consider is that I use the same account to log on the
Hi,
Just did 'fd' and I see that my /usr is at 97%, that's mostly due to the
limited amount of room I had to start with when I installed RH5.
I can add on another 200MB SCSI drive and use all of that for /usr but
what's the steps here for making sure that I don't loose all that's in /usr
now?
If this is the case, I believe the ping command in (c) is trying to use
DNS
to resolve the name and gets no answer, so it waits until this timeout is
exceeded. I think addresses in the 10.* range are private class A
addresses, for which no internet-accessible name server should provide
Hi everyone,
Since I only have the one Linux box and I want it to do a number of tasks,
email DNS, that sort of thing, how do I set up the machine wtih multiple
names?
I ask this as I was setting up the DNS stuff and the example I was looking
at used mailhost.domain.etc and ns.domain.etc .
Hi everyone,
Just need a quick pointer on where linux goes when booting up, I want to
get rid of the realplayer stuff I included when I installed RH5. Something
like the autoexec.bat I guess.
I have done a rpm -e rvplayer and it seemed to have gotten rid of it, but
it's still loading up in the
Hi everyone,
I'm going to ask a really stupid question.
Do I need to setup samba to get a win95 machine and a linux machine to ping
each other?
I ask this as I'm having a lot of problems just pinging between the two,
but as yet I haven't setup samba on the linux box.
Also, when running
Hi everyone,
I'd like to know if there is a generic NIC diag program out there for
Linux? The reason that I ask is that I doubt that it's a hardware problem
with the network, more a conflict with settings.
I tested the 3com card with a dos program and it worked fine, I have
checked out the
Hi,
I just read a message that refered to a command called dmesg. So I tried
this out on the linux machine.
The out put of dmesg must show the boot up (I haven't read the man page
yet) but I noticed somethng that could cause me some problems latter.
I'm running an old 8 bit 3com card a 3c503
Hi,
I have a 2 PC lan at home, one win95 the other linux. I might have jumped
into the deep end here when I installed RH5 I included DNS and a whole host
of other things as I hope to set the linux box up as an email and newsgroup
server and also do IP Masq.
I'm very new to Linux about 3 weeks
Hi everyone,
I have a linux machine setup and a win95 machine that I use DUN to connect
to my ISP. This will probably stay this way for some time to come.
I can't figure out how to setup the adapter on the win95 machine so that it
talks to the linux machine with out causing problems with the
What is the red hat digest?
This is the first message I have seen in this list(?) since subscribing to

Hi everyone,
Wishing to re-capture my 'glory days' when I used to use a dial in shell
account, I went out and bought ver5 of the redhat linux dist. I pretty
much read the whole of the installation guide that comes with the package,
I even managed to install Linux no worries.
I have put
