I seem to be having a problem involving a kenwood tm701 with a Doug
Hall RBI-1 on the link port of my Mastr II VHF repeater. It seems to
have a buzz in the audio, or the dtmf regenerate feature of the RC-210
controller. It seems to be so bad, that the Echolink program will not
decode the dtmf.

I have built the serial interface cable for the second time and checked the pinout multiple times.
I am using MS's canned Hyperterm program.

Doug,
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a
little DC coupling between the hardware. I fixed my
problem with the installation of an isolation
transformer (RadioShack Part # 273-1374). I put one
each on the audio IN and the audio OUT of the remote
base transceiver. This will take
I too am a Kenwood dealer. Let me know:)

Steve,
In nearly every case I can remember, a buzz or hum in an audio circuit
could be traced to a ground loop. The predominance of unbalanced audio
cables used to connect the components means that some AC leakage currents
will flow over the shields and thereby become part of the audio signal.
I have six copies of the following: Instruction Manual, Motorola
SYNTOR Two-Way FM Radio, 136-174 Mhz., 40/75/110 Watts.
Motorola Pub No. 68P81043E40-A.
Will send any or all to anyone for the cost of postage (probably
about $1.00 each). Otherwise the dumpster gets them.

Hi Tim
1st make sure that the carrier light does not stay on
as if the SITE alarm is active for POWER UP it waits
for the carrier to go off before sending tones out.
This scenario produces a lock-up catch22 situation.
Best try Bitcom as all should be ok on that program.

Hi Fred, I would like to get them. Let me know how much and will send some money.

I tried to reply off the list but that did not
work. I would be happy to take 1 or all of the Syntor manuals. Please let me
know off of the list.
Thanks, Al

To the group;
I have a Sinclair 4 cavity Q202 VHF BPBR duplexer which is missing its cable
harness. I have a few questions about how to build a new harness for this
type of duplexer.
I plan to use RG400, N crimp male connectors, and and N tee connectors type
2F/1M. The Tee connectors will be
It was always my understanding that, when calculating the cable lengths of a
duplexer harness, the characteristics of the loops come into play. It's not
just a matter of calculating a 1/4 wavelength of coax. Your best bet is to
contact someone that has the same duplexer on 2 meters and get
Fred,
I can use one of them.

Steve,
I gotta admire a guy who is willing to do all of the engineering calculations
for duplexer jumper cables! The optimum jumper length must consider the
length of the loops that are within the cavities. However, in this particular
case, Sinclair has already done the hard part.

Does anyone know how to lengthen a TLN 1361A T.O.T. from Motorola?
The one I have is 1 minute, I need it to do 10-15 minutes.
Thanks, Bruce KD4BOH.

Bruce,
What model radio is the TLN1361A used in? I did not find that number
listed on MOL.
Most rules require a 3 minute maximum transmission unless other controls
are available; what drives your need for such a long interval? Just
curious...

Eric,
Thanks for the detailed response. The velocity factor is .66 for RG-214
vs. .695 for RG-400. So, if the length isn't supercritical, couldn't I just
use 14 inches tee center to tee center for my RG400 jumpers?
What does the length of the cables between cavities affect in the duplexer
Steve,
I have not experimented with the effects of jumper length, since I usually order
a duplexer made for a specific repeater pair, and merely verify its operation
upon receipt. You might contact Sinclair Tech Support directly for answers, or
perhaps other list members can elaborate.

There is a lot of info on the RB website for the 202,including a
detailed explanation of the hybrid ring and jumper lengths. I would stay
away from crimp on connectors and stick with the RG-214 mil spec double
shielded cable. I use one here...
