For all interested:
We solved the issue for us with patching nsswitch/wins.c
Seems there is no gethostbyaddr support in the original (why not?).
Found an old solaris patch (lost the name originator) and modified it to run

Here's the patch, mainly the new function

The questions now is what setting is responsible for the timeout

samba do I have to recompile? Or is it even a system option?

Dear list,
we are running a server with a NIC which has been assigned multiple IP
addresses. If we start Swat on this machine (via inetd), it will listen
on all IP adresses on port 901.
Is there a method to restrict Swat to listening on only one of these
addresses?
Thank you very much,
Peter
performance?
Or perhaps there are some diagnostic tools / extra logging to see what
is happening?
Regards
Peter
Here is my smb.conf
[global]
workgroup = smr
server string = Samba %v
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
passdb backend = tdbsam
cups options = raw
.
It would be interesting to try Samba to Samba transfers but I don't have
the equipment set-up to try this.
Peter
PS Is it possible to post images to the list?

I get long pauses if I just drag and drop any large file using windows

The mp3 player works fine when using a local file or when streaming

Was questioned before with no answer, but have the same problem:
With Samba 3.0.25 with ldap backend, what can i do for using algorithm rid
=
2*uid + 1000, when samba create samba attributes (sambasid) of computer
account, instead of SambaNextRid from SambaDomainName entry ?
Background:
I
I have a Samba 3.025a PDC and BDC with LDAP running.
If I simulate a BDC crash the Client connects the PDC, but the
netlogon share is not accessed. This happens only at the first login
at the PDC. The second login is ok.
It seems that the client does not even try to access the netlogon share.
Many thanks for the reply.
My thought (from the docs) was that samba use the algorithm for sid
building.
That's was wrong guess?

after modifying the sid the client computer cannot log in anymore, but it

I've played around (far too long) and have given up with samba for now -
I've tried all the optimisation tricks, restarted smb and nmb several
times, disabled the firewall and SELinux on the server, disabled
anti-virus software on the PC but to no avail - browsing is still very
slow and copy
