it turns out I may need to add a directory and set permissions on it in each
users directory (there are over 900 of them).
Is there a simple way to do this? Say the directory needs to be called

I got my HP Deskjet 930C running using CUPS pretty easily. Modprobe
usbprinter (WARNING:Module name from memory there!) and then find
your way to the nearest CUPS admin interface (http or commandline).
Mine is a HP Deskjet 948C running CUPS. It was detected, setup and runs
