I know the TAFE i attend teach linux in some IT courses, and i think
even the senior college (yr 11 and 12) get to play as well.

heh notepad is ok, but it all comes down to preference I probably use too
many editors, joe and sometimes jed on console (or vi as a last resort),
nedit and bluefish in X and textpad in winblows.

You have an isdn to your work station? if so why not throw up an old 486 with a distro
you know and trust setup to do nat and firewalling and run what ever you like on your
work station, that way your ws wont be slowed down if some smart arse decides to
(d)dos you.

actually it was which ever x comes with slack8 and kde 2.1.1, kde 2.2.1, and kde
2.2.2, for some reason mandrake and my machine have a difference of opinion as to if
it should install.

because it doesn't have the bloat of others, and it is
very easy to install.
As for your questions,video is a kernel thing, slack8 does have isdn packages (plus
the kernel aspect) it comes with kde2.1.1

But I suppose it all depends on what you plan to do, if your a newbie and want a
desktop i think mandrake is the way to go, if you want a server steer clear of redhat
and mandrake thats my opinion anyway. feel free to present yours.

render the westpac ibank site. from memory
when i tried netscrape it didn't either, and i haven't had a great deal of luck
getting mozilla to run after compilation to test it.
Formerly being a stgeorge customer i know that by default konqeror mostlikley would
not work with theirs.
