Looks like I'll be in Hong Kong from the 11th til the 24th, then back to
Hawaii with a couple days in Tokyo.
Other than AMD, are there any other manufacturers or shops I should check
out?
I've printed out maps of the soaring sites and Stanly Chan has told me of a

Look for bowcases, rifle cases, golfclub cases, and ski cases. I made my
own travel case out of masonite, epoxy, and triangle stock, but it was time
consuming and now it's all duct tape anyway.
I saw a perfect golf-club case not too long ago at a local hardware store -
didn't get it and now
I have a Hitec 555 Rx that came in a used plane without a case. The antenna
came loose and I had a lot of glitching as it bounced around. I sent the Rx
back to Hitec and they soldered a new antenna on. I took it out of the box
when it returned, looked at it wrong, and the antenna fell off
Well I got home early yesterday and had a hour to kill so I built a stock

to start modifications.
Mod 1 - made a dihedral wing with elliptical tips.
Mod 2 - made a T-tail with matching elliptical tips.

Went fishing Xmas eve and flew Zagi400's and a Zagi THL on Xmas day. Not
enough wind for the usual sloping on Molokai. I've posted a bunch more
pictures if you are feeling snowbound and grumpy.

Seems to me it might be interesting to curve or sweep the trailing edge
forward to meet the hingeline. It would offer no aileron ends to create
drag (similar to trileron theory but without cutting and linking two
surfaces).
Any thoughts on this?

I pulled a couple lengths of this stuff off my stack of phonebooks a while
back thinking they would be useful for something like this. Good to see I
wasn't alone on this. The material has a little stretch, but is on par with
foamie construction. Has anyone tried glues other than 3M-77? What
With a range of 1,900 nautical miles, you could stop a few times along the
way to practice.

Please open this can of worms. What's a 'dart' style surface spar? Is this
the triangular layer of carbon used to reinforce the wings? Are you
advocating a shear web installed in foam wings. Tell me more!

I have a cousin that plays for the Steelers. If he wasn't drafted, he was

Thanks again to all who have replied. The general consensus is more down
throw than up, with some liking more up than down, and many preferring to
keep it neutral and tweak as needed after flying. Now I just need to learn
how to use a rudder on a aileron plane.

I picked up a samurai a while back and it's a pitcheron model (only the
wings move for pitch and roll). My friend has a snipe that has an elevator
too and he likes the feel better (he's gone through a couple samurai too)
Using an elevator for pitch seems to reduce low speed stalling, and you
It's more than an issue of upgrading your computer. I think it is not a

I was born in Santa Fe and spent a lot of my childhood in the ski basin, the

The trick is to rinse out the salt water and dry the electronics before

I was born in Santa Fe and spent much of my youth in New Mexico. Many of
the older homes, barns, etc. have dirt floors. They use horse or cow blood
to seal it and it makes a hard, dust-free surface that is easy to sweep.
I'm sure you could use any brick or concrete sealer if you don't want to

used to play with atlatls as kids and could increase the range of a bamboo

I received the Samurai this Saturday. I haven't had a chance to fly it yet,
but I got the radio programmed. If this is the one without the LE damage,
the other one must be total wreck =) I'll fix up that LE crunch and get it

Thanks to all who commented on this subject. I figured the market was

Not sure if I saw the same ad or not. The one I saw showed a guy climbing
up a tree to get the plane, then throws it off the top. It was a

I've worked with epoxy a lot and it will stick well to old epoxy. You may
need to sand off the amine blush first, though some epoxies are made not to
blush (I've used Aluzine surfboard resin from Fiberglass Hawaii for kayaks
and wings). It also helps to get it rough first. Your concrete
I broke the carbon tube spar in my EPP Cyclone this weekend. The top of the

need to do some more forensics, but it looks like the spar is two 36" tubes

I've lived in Hawaii for 21 years and haven't made it to Kauai yet. I have a

He said he flew over a golf course near Princeville. The winds in Hawaii

Jim,
I use 3M 77 spray on glue. Only spray on one surface and push pieces
together before it dries. Let it dry and then sand away. The parts will
pull apart when you're done. If you spray both surfaces, let them dry, then
stick them together, you will have a permanent bond. Same can be done
I just went to the site and figured out what trilerons are. Looks like a
good way to clean up drag. Has anybody tried something similar at the root
end of an aileron? I suppose the throw would be too much for use on flaps
or flaperons, but a few linked sections might work.

Waikoloa,
We've all been talking about ducks, pelicans, eagles, etc. and their beauty
in the air. I've spent hours and hours watching Golden Eagles, ravens,
turkey vultures, and falcons fly around near Santa Fe, but the most striking
bird, to be at least, is the Frigate Bird or 'Iwa. The swollow tail,
I saw someone mention concrete molds last week when providing dimensions for
a plane (Logic, I believe). I've built concrete canoes (American Society of
Civil Engineers competition) and work with concrete a lot. I'd like to try
making a concrete mold one of these days and have a few questions.
I made my first attempt at glassing a wing over
Thanksgiving weekend, with very poor results. Due to brain failure, I got
lacquer thinner on the cores and ruined them. The area that did not get
thinner on it became my practice subject.
