Have you tried merging this scene into an empy one ?
Did you delete/rename the default_pass ? Back in the days this was causing
problems.

As far as I know, there is interest in this subject in the modeling
team, they are continuing to work on new stuff.

I have run into a lot of errors when saving a scene which has saved fine up
until now. After adding some passes with new overrides I get a lot of
error: 2000 messages saying a numbers of objects could not be saved - like
this:

also, who knows how you currently have this set up in the operator
stack. As a heads up, you cannot deform on top of a cache if the
deform is in the simulation stack because each frame gets overwritten
by the cache. therefore you need to apply it in the modelling region
but above the cache / mixer
